    Buying Welder. New or used?

I've been looking to buy a mig machine. I'm no expert welder. When I was younger I used my fathers Lincoln tombstone and mig machine for random car repairs. Now I just want something for odd jobs so I don't have to rely on my friend or father to do my work. The friend I mentioned has a Hobart...

    Expectations From In-Floor Heat

I think it really depends how warm you will keep the space. My shop is set at 50°. I definitely don't work out there in a tee shirt unless its strenuous work. I have a few radiant zones in my house that are set to 65°. Now those are great for walking barefoot! I will say what I have noticed is...

Forgot to install pipe for slab sensor

I have the same thermostat...I didn't like how the system ran with the slab sensor. Seemed to short cycle. I just run the room sensor and use the "outdoor sensor" setting on the thermostat and still keep the slab sensor hooked up. Then I still see the floor temperature, but the thermostat only...

    EZFloor/RAZ Panel - insulation & PEX routing?

I used the crete-heat panels for my build...I have a few pictures from my install on my build thread. I found surplus material on CL from the manufacturer in Mass, so the price was way cheaper than buying new XPS sheets(I also looked for surplus XPS). I've done both styles of installation too...

    Mr Bob's Garage

Now that I have a space to work, one of the few things I actually enjoy about winter is working on a project while it's cold out. So after I inherited another VW and a bunch of parts I consolidated all the parts worth keeping. Once I moved the shell out back and rearranged the cars, it was time...

Another barn insulation thread, I'm sorry

Ha! You could be right...I'm outside of Albany. I don't consider Poughkeepsie or Kingston upstate. :lol_hitti

Another barn insulation thread, I'm sorry

Most spray foam outfits charge around .90-$1/in for CC...at least that's the pricing I've seen around my area.

Another barn insulation thread, I'm sorry

I did roughly 2" of CC foam on top of the EPS foam....it cost me $1400.

    ceiling panel liner

My joists are also 4' OC....I had a combination of 16' and 8' panels cut for mine. Sagging is not an issue. I have 14+ inches of cellulose laying on it too. But I did it opposite of bullnerd. I did J channel for the ceiling panels and butted my OSB to the J channel after that. I used a...

Another barn insulation thread, I'm sorry

I did a version of what b-boy did. I searched for surplus EPS or XPS insulation to attach right to the metal panels. Then CC foam on top of that to up the R value and seal cracks. That way if I ever need to remove outside panels, the foam isn't sprayed right to the panels...you can check out my...

    Mr Bob's Garage

Thanks guys! Love seeing all the VW fans here! I got a motor build in the works for the long winter months. I'll be sure to keep everyone updated. I love that Beetle Wachuko!! Big fan of the roof rack. I often get ideas of buying an aircooled VW, but I get worried it would be another addiction...

    Mr Bob's Garage

Thanks Matt! Nice! My first was an 88' 16v. Been hooked ever since. The wall panels I got from a place called Builders First Source out of Mexico, NY. At the time they had better pricing than any local place I tried to order from...I got trim, screws and all the panels from them. Thanks a...

    dubber's triple v3.0

I bought 2'x4' flat LED panels like these for my shop. I think they were like 7800 lumens each...bought 4 initially and figured I'd have to buy more later, but it lights up the space great! Not sure how your garage is set up, but for me I bought the frame kits and hung them from my metal ceiling.

GTIDriver's 12'x20' Basement Single Car Build

Good to see a few other VW fans here...I instinctively saw GTI in the title and had to check out the thread. I currently DD a MK5 TDI and own 3 other VW's. Great job on the transformation! I like the Martini color theme. @nicholam77 I see you are from MN. Go Vikings!!

    Radiant Heat Pump Speed??

Not to jack your thread OP, but @fitter30 mentioned this in a thread I started also and I didn't quite understand...so do you mean if I want a 50* heated space, the floor temp sensor minimum should be set to 55-60*?

    Insulating a Pole Building

I'm sure you know, but doing it entirely in spray foam is the best way if you can afford it. If not, you could do a mix of the foam board AND spray foam like I did. So lay your foam board where you want (I put mine over the 2x4 girts), then spray foam it with 1-2" of CC or 3-4" of OC. Or...

What material to use for walls

Had the same thoughts when I built my garage. I went with 3 rib metal panels from the floor to 4ft height(for looks and welding protection), then OSB to the ceiling(left unpainted). Came out looking great IMO. Plus, its super easy to hang anything off the OSB, and if you ram anything into the...

    Mr Bob's Garage

I added another vw to my collection! Long story, but 2 of my brothers bought this car back in 2005 from CT. Low mileage and in great shape. All 3 of us are VW fans and throughout years of collecting parts and cars we all pooled our money together to build it. We had grand ideas to do a stroker...

Next mod was I found a pressure gauge to install on the hydraulics. Mohawk sells one, but it was stupid expensive!
