contractor won't put rebar in my garage floor

When I was interviewing contractors to have my garage built I asked the final builder "What about rebar in the floor ?" just to gage his reaction. He said "Of course. I would never pour a garage floor without rebar". He ended up using a lot of steel all tied together and supported off the...

it's useful to carry a mostly complete set of tools in your car

I have a fairly good tool set I keep in my Sprinter van. A couple of years ago I drove to Alaska. In the middle of nowhere. the passenger side window regulator failed and the passenger window fell down into the door. Must have been the miles and miles of really rough roads. Anyway, I had the...

    Handling a large drill

I have an old Porter Cable 1/2" that could easily break your wrist if your not careful. Great drill, but impossible to keep the drill from turning if the bit gets stuck. Doesn't happen easily in wood, but with metal you really have to watch it.

    Driveway options

I would recommend pavers. I have long driveway with pavers and one thing I like is how fast the water drains through the pavers after a rain. If you get snow, I imagine it would help there too. Also. if a paver gets oil stained or cracked it can be replaced without too much difficulty. Have...

    LM8500 Wall Controller Failure.

I just came across this thread. In May of this year we were gone on a six week trip to Europe. My neighbor came by the house to take a look while we were gone and saw that one of garage doors was open. All the garage doors have LM 8500 openers installed about 2-1/2 years before the failure...

I use a radio from a car powered by a 12vdc plugin wall transformer. Has pushbuttons for the stations and bluetooth. Car radios are convenient to use and fairly inexpensive. Sometimes even free. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=284998&highlight=frank001

    Getting frozen valves unstuck?

I have some outside shutoff ball valves. If they haven't been used for awhile, the handles will bend before the valve moves. A shot of Kroil at the valve stem and waiting for a few minutes works for me.
