Brake fluid? Haven't seen that suggested, yet. Sometimes you can microwave items like this. (My suggestions are not professional advice. Whatever you do, it is at your own risk.)

The problem I have with scrapping good parts like the OP has: OCD Guilt! In my twisted universe, if all else fails, the part has to be used in some kind of re-purposing manner. LOL And to get another 15 years out of a tool (or part/s thereof) that already had a good life is a win-win/win.

That is thoroughly unacceptable. Maybe this "electrician" has a brother or uncle that does the inspections. I would be major pissed-off to see this in a building I owned. I am fed up with subs who think they know more than engineers.

I would just try to glue it. I have some kind of higher-priced Devcon 2-part product in a squeeze-it-through-the-21-element-nozzle kit. Not near my garage tonight so pics not available, but i have some flatware baskets (from dishwashers) to hold pliers, etc. Lots of ways to hang these on wall and even carry them to work area.

Can you use a strap wrench to come up with something? Maybe use that with zipties and/or tape and/or wire, etc. to get a firm grip on your drill housing.
