Here’s a shot of my building getting insulation finally The difference is unbelievable, with just a fan in there I have been able to work in it this summer more than the other summers combined

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT a simple shop

today I finished installing that door, and put the trim around it, it had been held in with 4 screws and had the extension cord running through it for the last 5 years. I had to use clamps and pry bars to tweak the frame straight after all this time but it’s finally done.

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT a simple shop

So, I’m not even sure where to begin on updates to my shop. My last post in this thread was from 2017… I guess I’ll just start with what I did today and kind of go backwards and forward from here.

Intermatic time switch: mechanical vs electronic

While the environment is very different from a house, in the oilfield we have a lot of those old intermatics sitting outside (they are not rated for that) that have been in use for 20-30 years. we also have the new electronic ones that we have to replace after every storm passes through.

    Storage containers

I use these in my reloading process, they have held up well in the house. I’m not sure they would handle a lot of weight or high temps though. I bought mine at a dollar general store for $1, never found that price online though even five years ago

Recommend a flashlight for a farmer

I carry a Streamlight single AAA in my pocket at all times, when preparing to write this response I realized I don’t even know where all my other lights are...if you need brighter the CR123 is great, just not as easy to carry. Other than that I use my tool flashlights (Makita at home/ DeWalt at...

Looking for opinions on lighting a dartboard

This is the LED update of the one I have for my dartboard, it has a cord and plug and says it’s for table use but it has keyholes in the base. For the record mine has survived direct hits from darts with no damage. Sent from my iPhone using Garage Journal

Ever thought you'd see someone offering to trade Craftsman for Harbor Freight ?

I still use a set of popular mechanics screwdrivers from back then. It’s actually a mixed set of PM and Vermont American (they’re the same), they are still my go to screwdriver in the shop. I have a lot of craftsman I bought as a teenager and young adult in the 90’s, I have Mac, snap-on, and...

Storage Bin ? Wonder if others have better solution

A spreadsheet inventory would require a computer, which I don’t even own at this point. The app allows me to voice dictate, although it’s not the greatest. I can also sync this data from my shop phone(no sim, plays music and runs this app) and my phone. I have found it to be very useful as the...

Storage Bin ? Wonder if others have better solution

That’s pretty much it. I put the label on the bin, scan it, then voice dictate the contents. I can also add a photo, but have only done that with a few. This is what it looks like to retrieve the info I just numbered the tubs, I look on my phone to see what number the desired parts are in...

Storage Bin ? Wonder if others have better solution

I am using an app called pack&track, it uses QR code’s and is pretty easy to use, the labels however are not liking life in my 130 degree shop, but are just starting to peel after a year. There is another system called outlinx that is more expensive but from what I can tell never comes off. I...

What surprising tools don’t you own...

1/2 inch drive metric deep sockets. Been working on imports since I was 15 and hadn’t noticed I didn’t have them until I bought an organizer last month and that tray was empty. You think I would have at least noticed? Sent from my iPhone using Garage Journal

3 car garage...trying to avoid backing into cars behind me

If you are skilled and attentive enough to back them in, what makes backing them out different? I also would prefer to back into my garage but my wife won’t do it[emoji848]says it’s harder than backing out. My work truck has the back up alert, it only works half the time and completely missed...

    In-floor lighting

I wanted to do this so bad when I was building my shop. I did hours of research and had my lights all picked out, I couldn’t get them in time for my pour so I went on without them. I’m happy I didn’t now, that is something you can’t just undo and it’s very task specific, I wound up wanting my...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I put a 200 pc Kobalt tool set that I have been using from the cardboard box in the garage into a Waterloo tool chest that has been empty in the shop since I bought it over a year ago. Put the correct plug in my daughters radiator and bled the air yet again (bmw). Think we’re good this time...

    20'x30' or 24'x25'?

My previous shop was 24.5x24.5, this was a good size for just about everything, which is great if you want to sell the place later. I built a car and 2 bikes in there , had a car an a bike going at the same time actually. It does allow some storage above, even though I was stuck with a low...
