Any way to get a discount on Harbor Freight tool boxes?

I bought the hutch for my 56" box this past memorial day using this coupon: It looks like it has the same exclusions that are listed on the current coupons for Presidents Day weekend. If there's a HF close to you, I'd just try to use the coupon at the register and see what they say. If you...

Same here, so I picked up the radiator hose pick set and some cutting and polishing pads while I was there.

    Backdrag vs. Tooth Count

My dad had one of these ratchets. I remember using it a lot in the late 90's and early 2000's when I was living at home and working on my first cars. If I'm not mistaken, it came in a kit with shallow and deep 3/8" sockets, a couple of extensions and a universal joint. I used that kit almost...

The universal joints and pliers are for the junk yard tool bag. The punch set will go in my main tool box.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I finished rebuilding the rear coilovers on one of my cars. The wife ordered more baby chickens which are arriving this weekend, so I put together a makeshift brooder.

Best way to repair these threads?

The thread file worked out great. It just took a few minutes and the nut threaded on perfectly. I was able to the last couple of coilovers reassemble tonight. Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions.

Best way to repair these threads?

That's really good to hear. I'm looking forward to trying a new thread repair method. In the past I've had some good luck with dies, but since I can't easily replace this strut, I'm afraid to even attempt it. Now that you mention it, it does look like a chamfer which shouldn't interfere with...

Best way to repair these threads?

I'm working on rebuilding a set of adjustable coilovers for one of my cars. The the first couple of threads at the end of the struts shaft either weren't cut correctly or it was damaged at some point during the manufacturing process. If I try to carefully screw the nut on, I can get it maybe...

    February tool truck sighting.

I see the Mac and Matco trucks pretty regularly on my way to work. This independent truck was a bit unusual.

    Tekton Price Increase Notification

The only thing left that I'd like to get from Tekton is their 1/2" drive 10 - 32mm impact socket set in both shallow and deep. The chrome universal joint sockets are interesting, but that's me wanting something that I probably don't need.

I was gifted a 4 piece combo kit that included the Freak impact driver (post #61,012). It seems like a nice tool although I haven't had a chance to use it much. It looks like you have the latest version with the adjustable torque and speed settings, plus Bluetooth. I think I have the...

I've picked up a mechanics stethoscope to help investigate a high, fluctuating idle on one of my cars. I thought this would be an inexpensive tool worth testing before I try propane or invest in a smoke machine.

Ratchet with tightest locking flex head mechanism

I'll have to try that with my 90T Gearwrench flex head with the older style locking mechanism. I can only get 3 to 5 swings of the ratchet before it unlocks itself.

12 point sockeets in addition to 6 point working on cars/light trucks and SUVs: do you have both shallow and deep? which drives?

I only have some 12 point shallow 3/8" impact sockets in the sizes 8, 10, 12, 14, 17 and 19 which I bought individually from Tekton. I mostly work on older Honda's and only run into 12 point fasteners on the engine internals and the flywheel and pressure plate.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I put some pads and rotors on a '17 Nissan Sentra. This car belongs to the son of one of my dad's coworkers. The brake pads were so worn that one shim fell out completely and the other slid out and got jammed behind the caliper bracket. The piston also slid out of the caliper and was only held...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Today I ripped a bunch of 2x4's for the addition that we're adding to the chicken coop. Then I started framing in the new run. The daily driver got an oil change, then I changed the oil in the lawn tractor and leaf bagger. My new hutch light arrived, so I quickly put that together. Now having...

New Icon EXT kits bad chrome normal?

It's odd that you would get bad chrome on all 3 sets. I also have all 3 sets from Icon, plus the wobble extension set. The chrome looks just as good as any other brands that I've seen. If it bothers you, I'd suggest either exchanging them or returning them for a refund.

I picked these up today since HF was running their new years sale. I have the double box end ratcheting flex wrenches, which are great. I love the length, but I didn't like the idea of using a ratchet wrench to break loose fasteners. The standard box end on this set will come in handy.
