VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Thanks All, I did rinse them pretty well in the kitchen sink to stop the vinegar (wife can attest to that :-/) The pivot screw has a little wiggle but I don't know if it's because I remounted my little Columbia 3" and had a better grip or if it's due to the PB Blaster. I'm gonna try some more...

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

Nice. I like the u-bolts for hanging your hammers. Did you make those compartment boxes you're using everywhere, or did you get them from someplace? Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Drives, Gman, Outlaw and Maine, thanks! I'll keep you posted. What's been done so far: Mostly disassembled the vise and soaked it for about 10 days in white vinegar. Scrubbed it a few times in between. Soaking the two bolts on the static base with PB Blaster right now b/c it's all I've got and...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Ok, so I need some advice here. I picked up this Dunlap 5244 at a junk shop the was pretty crusty. I know they're not worth much but I need a swivel vice about this size and could use a winter project so here I am. BTW, I'm new to vise restoration. Started disassembling the thing to clean it...

What's on your walls? Neat storage ideas!

Nice way to use that office furniture. Too bad Craig's list by me is choked with commercial adds for a used furniture dealer. Makes it really hard for me to find any. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

    Giant Unidentifiable Vise

Welcome to the journal! I'm not the expert on vises. There are a couple of great threads on the site with some really knowledgeable people on them. But all you need to fabricate that jaw is some patience, a hacksaw, a drill and maybe a file and some more patience if you want it to look nice...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Great idea if you've got a mig/tig. I've only got a stick machine and plug weld a nut onto the broken screw. Much easier to hold the nut in position while you're starting the arc and between the heat and the new head, they've always com out easily. Just choose a nut slightly smaller the the...

    The Machine Work Thread

OK All, I need some advice and the people on this thread (been a long time member and lurking here for about a year now) seem like they might be able to help. I've been looking for a lathe (or mill) to get started playing with machining as a hobby which is why I'm flexible about which one to...
