Awesome work and nice scrap haul.

Are you counterweighting the doors?

I do plan on doing something. Once I get them hinged I will step back and scratch my head and come up with something. Two hours of head scratching for every 10 minutes of work .

At that rate you must be as bald as the end of that smoker tank!!!!

Seriously some of the coolest work I have ever seen for just a smoker. Keep up the killer work!!!!!

That is the most awesome piece of art I've ever seen. What would make it even more awesome is if you made the piston, flywheel, and balls move using a small hidden electric motor:evil:

Jeeps1 - Let me preface this question with the fact that I know nothing about smokers. Is there an internal passage that allows the heated air from fire box to travel the length of the smoker before it goes out the stack?

Small steam engine to spin the flyballs?

Yes , it's considerd a reverse flow smoker. There's a 1/4 " baffle plate running the length of the smoke chamber for radiant heat . Then the smoke travels back across to the stack .

I do plan on motorizing the piston and governor.

Had some time to work on the smoker. Made a place to set my beer . A nice piece of 2 inch thick alder left over from another house project. Hope to make some progress over Christmas.

Jeeps. Unbelievable!! Besides your smoker being functional it is a work of art, you are a true craftsman. The proof for this besides your creation is the recommendation from other magicians in your pursuit of metal fabricating and design.

That thing just keeps getting more and more awesome!
As a machinist and a BBQ enthusiast, I am blown away by this work of art.
2 questions:
Any idea on the weight?
Did you pie cut and re-weld for the bend in the angle iron for the beer holder, or are the marks inside from a stretcher?

As for the weight I can only guess very heavy . The speed governor alone is pushing 250 lbs . I did pie cut the 2 inch angle to get the six inch radius .

Happy New Year !

Did some work on the hinges and put the dam on the baffle plate . So the pig juice doesn't run back to the firebox .
My wife got me a tig welder for Christmas :rocker: , my first attempt at tig welding . It looked so easy on the youtube videos I watched . I find it very satisfying even though I am not any good at it yet.
Also a side project I made for my grandson for his sandbox .

One lever is fixed wich raises the boom and the other moves the dipper in and out . The upper ram pivot on the bucket is stationary and attached to the boom wich dumps and curls the bucket when the dipper is moved.

VERY clever and simple solution.

jeeps1 that is some beautiful work.
I would like to ask a general question. Could a whole pig be cooked in a smoker such as you built or would anything have to be different? Such as a rotisserie or more direct heat (fire)?
