Watt meter for 220v heat pump

I like the ammeters that use a regular 1/2" knockout to mount: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BG2LD82C?tag=atomicindus08-20

Super Efficient HRV retrofit with smoke filter for $300?

How does a PTC heater consume watts and not put out any heat? Or is it just pulling a fractional amount of watts that isn't translating to a temp rise?

    Anker SOLIX C1000 UPS question

Lots of those battery pack systems (solar gens) will run in bypass mode when plugged into AC. So while they claim to be a UPS, it all depends on how quickly they can switch over to the inverter output when the input is lost. Most are decent, typically quick enough your devices may not even...

    iFLO condensate line maintainer

Reminds me of an automatic lube systems for big machines (combines, forage harvesters). If it works and removes having someone to remember to perform maintenance, it might be worth it. I'm sure whatever is in the bottle can be replaced with a much cheaper chemical.

Do you know the manufacturer? Any chance you can contact them and see if they have a part number and ability to order that part?

    Crazy HVAC compressor question

There are hybrid mini-splits available on the market that run off both AC and solar panels. I would guess that if you didn't have solar panels you could just use the 48VDC directly on the solar input. Example (no experience)...

Line Voltage Baseboard Heater with a Smart Thermostat (Ecobee, Nest, etc.) ?

No personal experience, but a device that combines a transformer and relay in one unit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D5YLY2G?tag=atomicindus08-20 Use this with some 18/3 wire and whatever flavor of LV smart stat you desire. Edit: I see Denwood beat me to it.

Grid tie solar. Did you make it thru the winter? Net metering

That's where things get tricky - it all depends on your contract with the utility. Per my solar guy, while I could add to my system (if I found the space for more panels, which is also difficult), once I change from the utility approved design I would need to have a new and different contract...

Grid tie solar. Did you make it thru the winter? Net metering

No, I think the reset is either December or in the spring sometime. I don't carry over any credits because the household finds a way to kill all of those banked watts!

Grid tie solar. Did you make it thru the winter? Net metering

I have yet to carry over any banked credits past a one month period. I always tell people that, had I known the utility was going to limit my solar size based on past consumption, I would have run space heaters all over the place the year before getting solar.

Mr Heater Big Maxx not finding +24v for a thermostat?

WiFi camera doorbells need more power, so a swap out of the transformer lets you use the existing wiring.

Can I run heat strips only, permanently?

Is this with a newer air handler with a variable speed blower? If not, you are missing out - the air slowly builds up as the heat starts to be pumped in by the heat pump. While the air doesn't feel "hot" like a gas furnace, it's not like the ice blasts I remember growing up with heat pumps or...

Can I run heat strips only, permanently?

A variable speed blower motor takes away the cold blast on spin up, making even a more conventional heat pump much easier to live with. The cost delta between an air conditioner and heat pump was not even 10% when I had a new one put in place 6-7 years ago. No way would I run on just heat...

Change hard wired oil fired boiler to a plug and receptacle for power outages

Keep the outdoor inlet, but run it to a 30A receptacle next to the transfer switch. Install (yet another) inlet on the side of the transfer switch. When you want to run off the battery, use the indoor inlet. When you want to run off the generator, use a short extension cord between the...
