Update #2 - my septic guy dug in the tank, installed 250 of curtain drain (5' deep), and we are moving the field from original location due to bedrock (surprise!!). New location requires 5' deep excavation for septic field. 16' x 8' x 5' It's taken him two days of digging so far with an 8 ton...

I thought about it. But with the tank, trench to field, then the field itself to dig, that's a lot. And that doesn't count the 250', 3'deep curtain drain that needs to be dug. The excavator was there yesterday, dug the curtain drain in an hour. So I'm good

Yep. We're pretty lucky where we are = we have a lot of dirt and sand. My Dad thinks the glacier used to empty right there from the ice age and it dumped a lot of sediment. A neighbour has a 10' basement!

Nope - 3'-4' max. Tank will be ~5' deep + 1' soil on top of that so we should be good. I have a whole pile of sheet insulation as well that I might put under the dirt but we'll see. Also - yes to risers. They are on their way.

Update - talked to the septic guy - he's going to install the tank and dig the field for me. I'll do the piping and backfill with my tractor. Still not cheap but at least this way it'll be done and he knows what he's doing.

It's a poly tank. And only 800 gallons. My brother and I were going just just lower it in. It's pretty light. The hole will be around 5' deep - and I would need to pile about a foot or so of dirt on top of the whole thing

Yep. $500 to drop off and $500 return from Kenora. Adds $1k to what ever time frame you rent it for. Also they told me they have a 10% 'damage fee' that they put on top of everything, but that if I damaged it, I would still have to pay to repair it?? Seems like a racket to me.
