Material ideas for finishing between joist bays?

Hey all. We have been working on removing the homasote and nasty fiberglass insulation that was put up on the ceiling of the back section of our garage. This is so we can remove old dangerous electrical and eventually rewire outlets and new LED fixtures I got. The back section is roughly 7ft...

New basement lighting (unusual residential construction)

So the wife and I want to do something fun for a New Year's eve party and set up and build a small mini golf course in our basement. Our basement has a finished part under the footprint of the house and an unfinished part the extends out past the house on 2 sides in the shape of an "L" as a...

    Rewiring 240v 50a electric oven circuit to 120v 15A/20A.

This is a quick check to see if what I had in mind is to code. The wife (and my) friend currently has an electric range on a 240V 50A breaker with 6AWG Romex. I am not sure if it a 3-wire or 4-wire circuit. He is getting a new gas range and we said we'd help him redo the circuit to a 120V...

Air nailers: What do you have and what do you find most useful?

So I just got a portable California air tools compressor (super quiet by the way) and 18Ga. brad nailer for my birthday. I'd really was wanting a quiet compressor for airing up tyres, air nailers, blow gun, running low consumption air tools for auto work, etc. I just put up a 10' X 15"...

    Atlas 3020 8" table saw

One of my coworkers in our machine shop at work offered me a table saw. He said it was an Atlas 8" and that he would get me some pictures. After seeing them and talking more about it I said I'd take it. I didn't haggle with him on his $100 asking price. I have been looking for a better table...

    Ryobi 12in sliding miter saw

Hey guys, I was looking at miter saws again after seeing a thread yesterday asking about what miter saw to get for laminate flooring (I think). https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-15-Amp-12-in-Sliding-Miter-Saw-with-Laser-TSS120L/205673791 So I saw someone suggested that the 10" version of this...

This Ridgid vise the same as Columbian 203-1/2?

I got this Ridgid 350PN from work because someone was using it as a press and stripped the screw and nut. I was looking for repair parts and as far as I can tell this vise is a Columbian 203-1/2. Can anyone confirm? Thank you.

    Getting organized (Picture intensive!).

I was in desperate need of a toolbox and after looking at Home Depot, Lowes, Sears and HF, I decided on the 26" top and bottom from HF. I was debating about getting the 44" bottom, but after moving my new box into the basement it was clear that the larger box would not would have been...

Think about the HF 26" combo

So I really need a toolbox to get all my tools in one place and off the floor. I narrowed my choices down to the the HF 26" combo or the 44" bottom (and add on later). I think I will be forced to get the 26" though since we currently have no garage and the box needs to make its way into the...

    Need advice about grinding wheels

Now that I have a bench grinder I need some fresh wheels. Basically I want two wheels one for my random grinding needs and one for sharpening drill bits, wood chisels and other delicate tools. One problem is I need 7" X 1" (width) wheels which aren't the most common size... For general stuff...

I found an interesting grinder on my local craigslist

http://southjersey.craigslist.org/tls/3188576426.html Delco made (who made the Craftsman block grinders) bench grinder modified into a small table saw/ drill/ grinder contraption. Seems a trifle dangerous but whoever modified it looks to have done a good job.

Is this a decent flaring tool?

My dad and I need to replace a section of rotted out brake line on my mom's car tomorrow. We were having trouble finding a decent flaring tool locally and this Napa (rebranded KD, I think) one seems to be the best bet on such short notice. Will this make usable flares on standard steel brake...

    1940's Companion drill press help

I have a Companion 101.03520 table top drill press in need of some work. It is very similar to this one I found on vintage machinery... http://vintagemachinery.org/photoind....aspx?id=11200 The problem is that the spindle (and maybe the quill in the head too) has noticeable movement when you...

    Proto body hammer handle replacement.

I have a Proto 1424 body hammer in need of a replacement handle. The handle on it now is red lacquer and split down the grain; in a word it doesn't seem to be original. I would very much like to find a proper replacement, at least an octogon shaped handle if not a real Proto handle (octogonal...

What do you guys use for tweezers?

Looking to get my own tweezers so I don't keep misplacing them on my dad and so that I know where they are. What's recommended? What's easily available? I'd like some quality ones, my dad has swiss made Rubis that work great. Rubis seem hard to come by through the normal channels however...

Found some more Fleet stuff including a ratchet.

Found more Fleet pieces that seemed to be placed at random in my uncle's collection of tools. So far I have a nearly complete small 1/2" drive set : 1/2" ratchet, 7/16", 1/2", 9/16", 3/4", 13/16", 7/8", and 15/16" shallow sockets. I suppose I need to find those pesky 5/8" and 11/16" sockets...

    Found some good stuff.

I got the chance to go back through some of my grandpa's tools. I found some good stuff among the junk. (From top to bottom) C-clamps: - Larger one is a Craftsman. Marked "Malleable", "Made in USA". Also a circled "W" so probably made by Wilton - Small one say "Malleable Iron", "Made...
