    Stanley No.75 spoke shave

Hi folks, I picked up this Stanley no. 75 spoke shave from a local antique store. I saw it in their cabinet and thought this would be a great tool for shaping new axe and hammer handles. It looks pretty clean already, just needs a light clean up to remove the rust and probably a good sharpening...

    Beach "Highboy" toolbox clean-up/restoration

As an update to my post in the toolbox thread HERE... I've finished pressure washing, scrubbing, painting (only minor drawer touch ups and inside of box), polishing, lubing, and re-assembling my new Beach box. This one took a lot of elbow grease! It's not perfect but that wasn't the intention...

    Installing new aluminum Soffit

Hey guys... I recently bought new aluminum soffit for my house. I replaced my old un-vented soffit for new vented soffit (and cut a bunch of holes in the wood soffit underneath of course). I've had some ice-damming in the past winters and I'm hoping this will help. Anyhow...my overhangs are...

I need some South Bend Lathe wisdom

I'll keep this short... I'm thinking of going to check out this lathe and I wanted to ask you guys to give me some feedback on what I'm in for. It's a 10" swing, 32" between centres, uses 2MT, runs on 440v 3-phase, has 1.25" spindle bore I'd buy a VFD to control it if I can't find a 220v...

How to keep track of your active threads?

Scenario... I come on GJ, peruse through the sections and find a thread I'd like to participate in. I type up a comment and submit it to the thread. I don't come back on GJ for another few days and forget the title of the thread I commented in. Of course by now the thread list has 100 other...

    Change stacked toolboxes to side-by-side?

I’d like some ideas and input to solve an issue I’ve recently become more annoyed with. I currently store my tools in a regular top/bottom stacked setup. I’ve always noticed that my box was a little too tall to comfortably work with and I think I’m ready to make a change. I was thinking of...

Bed frame **** joint techniques - HELP!

I'd like to start building a new bed frame, I'm upgrading mattress sizes and I'll need to build a new frame to fit. It will be a frame with slats (no boxspring) and I'l be working off of pictures I've found for inspiration. In the past I've built frames with the headboard and footboard as their...

    12v battery backup dilemma

Hey guys, I need some help with a project I'm working on... I have some electronics (low power draw) that I need to have running 24/7. I currently have the entire system hooked up to a 12v battery and the battery is being topped up with a trickle charger (a really cheap unit that is probably...

    Wood Clamps Score

I saw a Kijiji ad last night for 8 wood clamps, asking price was $30. Called the number right away and told the guy I'd be there quick (was only 15 mins away). The seller was very nice and had all sorts of stories to tell about woodworking and his old hobbies. Story goes that he has to downsize...

Can you identify this floor jack?

I've got my eye on this jack for sale, hard to say much about it other than show you guys the photos. If this is anything like most of the jacks sold these days it's a re-branded jack built overseas but who knows. It's allegedly a 2 ton jack, you can see the comparison next to a modern slim jack.

Would you buy this arbor press?

So I've been looking for an older quality arbor press, I put up a wanted ad and got a reply from someone the next day. He sent me a photo and said he'd sell the bigger one for $100 and throw in the small one for free. Cool. I asked to see the back side of the press for a model # or brand name...

    Is this a hand brake?

Anybody know what brand/model this little guy is? It's advertised as a hand brake but I don't know if that's accurate. (I'm a newb when it comes to sheet metal so I can't tell what this would be used for)

Installing a floor drain in an old garage

Okay, this may be a tricky question and I fully expect to get very polarized opinions about it... Long story short, I just bought my first house back in December of 2012. The house was built in 1948 and I'm guessing the garage was built at the same time. The garage slab was not done very well...

    Yeah...another mystery floor jack

I bought this floor jack at a garage sale down the street for $40. I was told it doesn't quite work right and is leaking fluid. It pumps up fine and will lift a load but I'm sure with frequent use it will show it's gremlins. The plan is to get a rebuild kit and get it back to reliable working...

    Garage sale find!

Bought this beauty at a garage sale for..... 15 bucks! It was a tad rusty, had all sorts of dried gunk inside and was in dire need of a cleaning. I cleaned her up, regreased everything and now she's a sweet unit. It'll be a workhorse and I'm not too concerned about what it looks like, just as...
