    Stuff around the shop... Cisterns.

We have a history of our municipal water supply flatlining in the summer, so we decided to start buying IBC containers (275 gallons, or technically, 1000 liters) to make an emergency cistern for when this happens next time. Our neighbors lost their water last year for 5 months - and their...

Question about why helicoils don't fail...

We all know about those wonderful devices called helicoils, how they can save your *** (especially in soft metals like Aluminum or Magnesium) when you overtighten that fastener and you end up stripping out the hole. God knows I've used a boatload of them over the years, everything from VW...

    Repeated cookie requests

I automatically sign in (like always), but now when I go onto the board I'm getting an "accept or reject cookies" pop up before I can go onto the board. Is this a new thing where we have to go through this firewall before I can go onto the board every time? Seems a bit redundant to me... thanks!

Hey, I've been coming here for years (as a member), and for the very first time I get this...So what gives? I get these for the commercial sale sites I visit - this is the first list I've ever had to go through and check to make sure all the cookies are turned off... And being so many of them...

    "Stack errors" and "Security reloads"??

Just tried to post a picture to one of my posts and it was repeatedly rejected because of a "server stack error", and just now when I was responding to another one about workbenches, it told me I "had to try again later" due to "security concerns"??

More like "Sub-Flooring" - Sewer probs.

Another fun adventure in the land of pasta. And :poop:... A few years ago, our renters had a bad sewer clog in the line running from the bathroom to the septic system. Someone (I suspect the "boyfriend") opened up the floor in the laundry room, and found the mainline from the bath to the...

So I just hit a limit to my "edits in a 24 hour period"?? This is a new one... I can't correct misspellings, etc. Now I'm locked out to fixing mistakes? Seriously, I don't get it. Why????

New problem - pop up ads all throughout a thread in FP

This is new - for me. Running Safari 14.whatever. Signed into the forum. And yes, it's in Free Parking (the "dog live forever" thread) but this is the first time this has happened. Usually its a top and bottom banner ad, which I can live with, this is like spandex gym clothes (they obviously...

OK, I've decided I need to up my skillset, so I want to start learning TIG. Mind you, no good schools around (except the University of Youtube, and the Community College of the GJ Community) , but the biggie is this - so many choices here and there for TIG machines - what do you suggest and...

    Possibilities....

My spouse sent me a set of photos, 2 of them were of a location where we are moving, who has a shop like mine (which he calls a "working museum") Kind of like what I was thinking.... I have officially thus been re-invigorated. I saw his pix and it looks like home. Serious... HIS shop...

Question about a mini shop, a shipping container, and flooring...

We're going ahead with our move to our other property, and saw a couple ideas on line about converting a 20' shipping conainer into a very small workshop until we get the final property restored (which will house my final shop)... I got to thinking about this (maybe too much) and remembered...

Snap on box full of cheap tools, or cheap box full of SO tools? That is the question...

So we post the question - which is your style, and what is your preference... How do you feel about spending your tool budget? More for tools, more for storage, or ??? My own preference is the box, if it works, is second to tools that do the job. Mostly, my tools are good quality, somewhere...

Issues with a diesel "torpedo" heater

I'm stumped. I have an older "multifuel" heater that started running cold a while back. Pulled the lid off, and found the hoses had cracked, one almost in half. Figured Simple, replace the hoses (used decent wuality fuel line instead of the cheapy chinese tubing that blew out), and now the...

New fun project - Sun 504

Just got turned on to a Sun Distributor Tester, a friend had it and had to make room in the shop, ... it spins up, I *think* the vacuum pump is working, the leads are good and not cracked, not sure about the strobe light yet (I need to hook up a dizzy to it and check out all the geegaws), but...

    Chasing better lighting

Started out with the original 2 tube T-12's in the shop, but darn, they were weak. Dim lights, and when it got below 50 degrees, forget it. So I went to T-8's... Those weren't bad, but the fixtures themselves were "Chinesium", bad ballasts, etc. So then, having a friend with T-5's, which...

I just got a SEP log-in, and checked prices... And they match the regular on line pricing. Without the SEP :wtf: So is this vaunted SEP just a gimmick? If it was giving me a special price on tools, then I'd be in, but it's the same as their regular online prices... Someone please 'splain...
