The making of a serrated tool steel vise swivel jaw

This is new ground for me, having not worked with A2 tool steel nor having ever serrated a vise jaw before. It is an interesting swivel jaw for a Bonney rapid transit vise. Not having a example to work from made for some guesstimating from etchings from the late 1800's and leaning on my pal...

    Abstract Christmas angel

A little something for my bride for Christmas. Made from a 3" valve body, a ski boat tow eye and a propeller. From one side I see an angel and from the other a Maltese falcon or thunderbird. Either way works I guess.

In search of the perfect burger

Just got a new gas grill, first one ever, we always have used charcoal before. It cooks a fine steak and I'm working on getting consistently good burger out of it. After researching some, decided to make a burger press for uniformity in diameter and thickness Started with a pvc female adapter, a...

    Outdoor work bench

Got a call from a buddy saying he had a line on a table with a vise, I asked what condition it was in and he said good. I've been in need of a small outside table, so I said grab it. Went and picked it up, 3/8"thick x 38"wide x 49"long x 30" tall with 3" pipe legs and a 6" fixed base Morgan...

    Bentwood box

    Reed 403-1/2 stand

I've had this very clean vise bolted to a taco cart for a number of years and it always seems to be in the way. So a new stand is in order. Starting with a 19-1/2 dia x 1" bottom plate, 11"dia x 3/8" top plate and 40' of 5/8" round bar. It is laid out for 12ea 5/8" spokes, acting as the column...

    Bandsaw throat plate

Have an old 14"delta w/gear reduction bandsaw that needed a new plate, the recess in the table is only .100 deep. The old one I had cut from soft aluminum and it finally gave way. Found a donor piece of 1/2" 6061, which should be far more rigid, but won't allow tilting the table, which is fine...

    Divider made from caliper

Have a large ID caliper that I never use, so opted to make a divider from it. It is also a way to learn a bit about cutting on a rotary table. After chatting with my mentor Kevin Scott, made a plan. Royce

    Moai kind of

Got a request from our daughter to submit a piece for an art show at our grange hall. The theme for this month's show is faces. The first thing that came to mind was a Moai from Easter Island. Knowing it would be out of reach to get all the detail one would need to replicate one, I thought maybe...

    Sliding beam trammel

I've had a couple trammel points with out a beam for years and thought I would make a sliding beam for them. Started with a mock up to practice scribing and inking the graduations as well as stamping the numbers. Also formed some copper end caps and milled the end of the mock up, so the cap...

    Interesting vise stand concept

Pulled some SS ring gaskets out of my buddy's bone pile. 24", 16" and 5-1/2" The 16" ones nested nicely in the 24" and the column will be made up of the 5-1/2"rings stacked on each other in a gentle arch.
