    vintage tire tools

I just had to separate a tire and rim so I could put the tire out for trash collection. So I got out my tire tools from the 1960s. They are Kentool T-1 straight tire iron, Kentool T-2 curved tire iron, and a Kentool T-24 bead breaker chisel. Also shown is an unbranded truck wheel lock ring...

    Big Parker Vise

Today I toured the East Broad Top Railroad. It is in central PA and originated in the late 1800s. It has been resurrected as a Tourist attraction. As part of the tour we went thru the round house. In the back of one bay was this Parker vise. It is about the biggest vise I have ever seen. No idea...

    Plier ID

These pliers belonged to my grandfather who was in electrical services at the Traveller's Insurance Co in the 1920s and 1930s. No markings other than the screw size on the wire looping pliers.

    Warwood hammer

I found this hammer in the bottom of the Powr Kraft roller I got as a barn find. It is stamped Warwood and 5 which I assume is 5 pounds. A google search shows the company in business making "highest quality hand forged tools". This is a ship's maul. Hammer only, no handle goes for $100.00.

    Old Brown & Sharpe Mic

I was rooting around and found the box that came with the mic. I bought it used in 1983 from a co worker who was selling his father in law's machinist tools at his retirement. Since the FIL would probably have had 40 years in the trade when he retired it would make the mic WW2 or shortly...

    Vlchek Auto Wrench

Probably fairly common but I came on this wrench that had receded into the junk on the back of my work bench. At first I saw no marking on it but after some wire brushing I found the "Made In USA 9 Auto" marking on the front and the Vlchek shield with the number 42 on the back. AA states that...

How it used to be done

The pictures below are of two editions of a manual used for training in the Henry Ford trade school in Dearborn Michigan The soft cover manual is from 1941 / 1942. The hardbound one is post 1942. Since the hardbound edition was edited in 1941 and 1942 it places the publishing of the soft cover...

    Haul of the day

I was doing some odd jobs in the barn of a friend whose husband had passed a few years ago. I noticed his tool box in the barn. It was full of mostly junk but one drawer had the below items. I told her I would clean and preserve them for her as they had started to rust. She said that no one in...

    Collins Wrench

I just came on this wrench in the back of a drawer. The interesting thing is that alloy artifacts does not show any Collins wrenches and a quick review of google shows no reference to the Collins Co making wrenches.I did find that the stamp "Collins Co. Hartford" was the earliest logo for the...

    Zim Valve tools

This is a Zim #301 Valve grinding tool That I purchased in 1962. It probably does not really qualify as vintage as they still make the same tool today. The real selling feature was the all steel construction. Competing tools had a cast iron housing which was easily broken if dropped.

    New Britain Mystery

When I worked for New Britain the the early 70s we got all of our forgings from Storms Drop Forge in Chicopee Mass. and we were told that Storms was owned by New Britain. When I look at the history of Storms there is no mention of New Britain and when I look at the history of New Britain there...

    Unusual Williams wrench

This is a Williams 2" fixed socket wrench that was supplied with Cincinnatti #2 centerless grinders to remove the control wheel. I got this one second hand in 1969. I have no idea when it was made. It is P/N 278A.

    Vintage Combination Square

My father bought this Starrett combo square second hand in about 1948. Assuming it was purchased when a machinist retired and sold his tools it would put the original purchase prior to 1920. Anyone else have one to show?
