We just redid our flooring in our house. Was hoping to reuse the baseboard but in reality some was partially broken, some broke as it was coming off and overall it was poorly done. Do executive decision was made to replace it I'm gonna tackle it. Any particularly good you tube videos to...

    Old popular mechanics sockets

Bit of an odd request. I recently pulled out of a box my very first ratchet and socket set. Popular mechanics brand. I bought this probably at 10 years old maybe 11. Well I have lost a couple and the ratchet. Getting older causes nostalgia. I'd like to find the sockets I'm missing a...

    Air compressor shelf.

I searched some and really didn't find what I was looking for. I want to put my air compressor on a shelf about 8 ft up. Not a small compressor. 7 hp 80 gallon. It's not light. I do not want to run supports to the floor. Suggestions? Ideas? My walls have studs on 16" centers

    Utility racks

I rarely get finished pics if these cause I don't paint them. But unfortunately I made the clearances a bit too tight and had to mod my adjustable spool holders. They hold the large wire spools. I think the heaviest is around 2400 lbs. That's the bit of raw steel in the picture

Anyone ever used sheetrock and OSB in a wall?

Just wondering. That's what I did OSB is 9 bucks a sheet more and with my height it would have required 22 more sheets of OSB. So OSB 8 ft up, then sheetrock. I will likely cover the transition with a 1x4. Still have to tape the sheetrock and I'm painting the whole thing

Shop build. I thought I could mud and tape the ceiling. Well I have some problems with my head ( brain). Turns out that long looking up down etc trying to do so is very very bad for my head. Dang near had an accident, blacked out for just an instance, came too just before I went off the edge...

    Ceiling to texture or not.

Gonna start mudding and taping my ceiling today. I have access to a texture gun. I don't really care to take it that far. If there are advantages to texturing I may do it. But if it is all the same I'll just mud and sand a touch and paint. Yes I'm priming before I paint. My shop will...

Securing wiring in an unconventional situation

Framing out my pole barn. 2x4s basically to hold sheeting and insulation. Left me with about a 2" gap between the studs and my foam board insulation which is installed against the tin. Lots of spots where plastic staples used to secure wires aren't easy to use. Can I use zip ties. Used...

    220v shop equipment

In wiring phase on my shop. This is a minor fab/mechanical type shop. Not much woodworking and if I do get into that in the future, it will be in my garage not the shop. The question is what 220v prices of equipment do you have? I currently only have my welder plasma cutter and air...

    Off placed outlets

Gonna be doing wiring this next week. What outlets do you wish you had? My planned outlets include normal wall outlets at just over 4 ft off the floor. Outlets for both jackshaft and conventional garage door openers. Ceiling outlets (3) for future cord/light reels. Oh and a 220 drop where I...

attic cat or green fiber cellulose

Going to be blowing r 60 into my shop space and adding insulation to my home at the same time. Shop has nothing in it at the time, home has 6" of insulation. It will cost me 200 bucks more for the attic cat insulation. It seems to be a slightly better insulation that holds its...

what type of insulation is this

With the upcoming shop insulation project I thought it would be a good idea to insulate my attic more. I only have about 5 to 6" of insulation up there. I was wondering what type of insulation this is. House was built in 1978 Should I airseal as much as possible it has gable vents and...

Pliers to make home wiring easier

I will be starting wiring in my shop soon. Lots of outlets. Lots of lights. I see this as an opportunity to buy some speciality tools. What do I need? I just realized I may have posted in the wrong section. My apologies, please move the thread if needed. I don't know how to

    IMC air compressor

I haven't seen it yet except a picture, but a buddy of mine just picked up a IMC 7.5 HP 80 gallon horizontal air compressor for me. Any info on these. He saw it start up and run. Ran smooth nothing looked too bad on it. Seems these later became Bel Aire? I'm pretty stoked about this...

    Ceiling fans

How much does location matter. 40 wide by 30 deep shop. Going to center them as much as possible, but it will be a little uneven. Planning on 2 56" fans with a 12" drop rod Amazing how fast you run out of ceiling when planning lights, cord reels, heater, ceiling fans air lines etc.

best bang for buck 2 stage compressor

Exactly what it reads. Most bang for the buck 2 stage compressor. Uses will include general air tool use, including die grinders and DA sanders, plasma cutting, impacts etc. You get the idea. I do mostly fab work but do a fair amount of mechanical work. I'm just trying to maximize my...
