Galvanized metal grate walkway as a plasma cutting table?

Was talked into buying a galvanized grate (walkway) to use as a welding table. Wow! Bad idea. But I just bought a plasma cutter and the grate would make a nice sized cutting table. Wondering if abrasive blasting would be enough effort to make a safe table...removing the zinc. Thanks.

Suggestions for adjustable feet ... 8' bar

Welding some 1.5" square tubing (OD) as the frame for a 8' wood top bar...tall seating with coffee, etc. The legs at each end of the bar (1/end) come down centered on a 10" horizontal tube that I figure I'll insert an adjustable foot about 1" from each end. Can I tap the 1/8" steel tubing...

    Fein Slugger 14 problem

Don't know if this is a common problem...but I bought the Fein Slugger 14 dry saw (due to good reviews) and there's some issues that bother me a bit. Instruction booklet may be the worst I've ever dealt with spending $500. It just doesn't make sense outside of the general warnings and such...

How to treat outdoor concrete work area?

Hey fellas. Just added a concrete pad and shed roof to my workshop. Pad is roughly 8'x17' and was brush finished (it's not smooth anyway); about 1.5 months ago. Wondering how to treat the pad. It'll be an all purpose work area- motos, welding, etc. Not worried about stains due to future...

What are my options with removing or keeping vct

So I have a coffeeshop that had vct put down 10+ years back over very old, uneven concrete. Vct has buldged in so many places-especially over tons of leveler. Anyhow, I'm in remodel mode and wondering if I should remove vct and do something with the concrete- stain or what have you. Or try to...

Will the MMatic 215 on 110v do the job?

Will the MM215 on mig 110v do the job on these brackets to the underside of I beam? My idea is to attach several of these C shaped brackets to the underside of the I beam, which runs across the front of my coffeeshop above the windows. I will attach 2X10" boards. From these boards I want to...

    Pipe fitting supplies...Ebay?

Ordered some 3/4" pipe through a friend from Siskin Steel in Chattanooga to make two 8' long bars for my coffeehouse. Same friend said to get the fittings through Ebay rather than Lowes. Wondering what you guys would do. Our city does have a small supply store btw. Thanks John

Good to great weld helmet...older eyes

Greetings all. Will begin learning to weld in earnest next weekend. My limited experience with an old, but good helmet left me not seeing the puddle well with these 57 yo eyes; I wear glasses- far sighted. Thoughts on a good to great helmet in light of my noob status and vision limits...

Millermatic 211 the best for my circumstances?

Greetings all. So. I've been looking at migs (off and on) for quite some time due to some future projects in my coffee shop (roastery and espresso bar really). The future is now through early next year. My college age son's cancer most of this year was obviously more than a distraction...

    Threading black pipe

Threading 3/4" black pipe from Lowes to make a tv stand. Never threaded before...having some issues. Using an old Rigid ratchet (in good shape) and Rapid Tap oil. Threads look good, (not perfect) but the couplers from Lowes don't want to screw on easily. Sometimes will not thread. Thoughts? John

    Need to remove this bearing?

Hey all. I don't know for sure why this bearing will not receive grease; the gun works great. Took off zerk (zert?) fitting to clean; also removed grease from cavity immediately after the zerk. Upon replacing cleaned zerk, enough grease to fill the cavity will easily flow from gun...then...

    air impact wrench power question

Greetings all. Looking for my first 3/8 air impact wrench; seeking quality hobbyist level tool. Looking at various tool's torque power led to me wonder if some tools are too powerful. Meaning, for example, "will a 700# aircat wrench break bolts too easily vs a another's 300#?" Eventually...

Looking for drill press - light fab duties

Hey all. While the weather has made it harder to finish outfitting my small workshop, I'm enjoying having a place to work indoors. So, I don't exactly know how the spatial issues will work, I know that I'd like a drill press (that's not junk) that'll do at least light fab work; though I don't...
