Does my steel building have enough insulation?

I have a 40x60x14 (no ceiling) with the insulation they roll out before the metal goes on. I also have a 5ton ducted electric furnace but I can have it 70degrees inside while its 20 outside and my furnace doesn't run constantly or anywhere close to it. If your furnace is running constantly just...

What's on your list to upgrade in 2021?

Just ordered a new 5ton heat pump, should save a nice chunk of money in the winter over my current electric furnace, and AC during the summer will be nice!

What temp do you keep your shop at?

I leave my 40x60 at 40 degrees and turn it up to 65 when I'm in there, with a 5ton electric furnace it takes 30-45 min to get it up to temperature. I have a basic wifi thermostat and turn it up on my way home.

Yet Another "How Should I Heat My Shop" Thread

I have a 40x60 that I heat with a 5ton electric forced air furnace, I keep it at 40 degrees and turn it to 65 when I'm in there working. in the st Louis area with electric rates at $.06kw I spend $100-$150 to heat it during the winter months. this is 14ft walls, open trusses, and roll insulation...

    The Backwards Garage Build

Thanks, The house is the same basic floor plan that my dad has built 3 times now for his own house so I know it will work great for us. We also decided to keep the bedroom in the shop and convert it to an office since I start a new job Monday and will need an office at home.

not using hot water heater for extended periods?

The shop is heated so no worry of anything freezing, I only anticipate turning it on when we have a bunch of people over for a party/bbq, family needing a place to stay during holidays/vacations, or if the wife kicks me out of the house for a couple days  As far as the water being stagnant...

not using hot water heater for extended periods?

I'm getting close to finishing my house and will be moving out of my shop apartment, I have a 50 gal electric water heater there and while I'll still use the shop and water a lot I don't see myself using the hot water very often. Will it hurt anything to just leave the hot water heater off and...

    Void under the concrete

How do you know there is a void under the garage floor? Any garage should be backfilled with rock to prevent this. obviously this isn't always the case with older homes or cheap builders though...

Buying building package and storing outside

I'd wait, I don't see lumber prices going up anytime soon. I got a lumber bid in September for my house, they delivered it this month and told me it would be $1800 cheaper because lumber prices were falling.

Finding CG on a vehicle for putting on a lift.

Is there a book, or online resource for finding the CG of a particular vehicle? I seem to remember getting a book with my lift when new (my brothers at the time) that had most vehicles and where their CG was located. Anybody know of anything like this? Thanks.

    equipping your dream garage

I'd consider how long you plan to keep it, for instance, I bought a nice Snap-On box when I was 25 (5years ago) It was expensive but I'll use it for the next 50ish years. If I was 55 buying a new box I'd definitely think about a cheaper option since you can easily get 15-20 years out of a...

    9K two post for a pick-up truck?

I have a 9k two post and I don't put more than a half ton truck on it. It will lift 9k and I've done it before, I just don't trust it. I'm hopefully upgrading to a 12k lift soon so I can lift newer 3/4 and 1 ton diesels.

40x60 Red Barn Full HVAC Install

I only heat at the moment, I'm looking for a good deal on a 5ton heat pump to hook up though. Building is a 40x60x14 pole barn with no ceiling and standard fiberglass insulation. I'm putting a ceiling in this summer which will hopefully help my heating costs. I have the Honeywell thermostat and...
