My posts vary from 6" to 10" deep, so I needed to sandwich them with the 2x6. You could just toenail the girts. You may need verticle support in the middle of the span to keep them from sagging. Use treated for the sill plate. On edge will probably work fine

Agree with others on tyvek where it is and paper face in. Horizontal girts like RC suggests.

If you keep the romex up tight against the post you can maintain the 1 1/4" requirement since your girts are 1 1/2" thick. Common practice and I passed inspection with no issues.
