Compressor safety, it always bears repeating

I was a full time firefighter for decades. I was on at least 5 house or apartment fires due to dirty fans that were left on while people were away or asleep. Granted, it is not an air compressor, but something timing out is not a bad thing. I like squirrels!

I'm almost scared to ask a lift question

I hate buying Chinese items, but as a hobbyist, I can't just cannot justify the expense, so I went with Bendpack. I did have to have the electric motor fail when a car was partway up. That kind of sucked. (I had it rebuilt by a local shop, much better quality). Minor problems, the two plastic...

Mold in Pittsburgh paints (in can) after sitting...

A good friend of mine is a contractor, for several decades. That is one of the brands of paint he will not ever use. But, we are in Pacific North West. Companies change, climate is different, and "results may very". My luck with that paint was poor. I am a homeowner, not a pro.

tool chest: to paint or not to paint for resale? That is the question!

I have bought a few used ones, from Craftsman, (older), to 40 year old Snap Ons. I would prefer getting it "as is". But, as they say, that's just me.

    AA pen type flashlight suggestions?

There are some great choices here. Let me take a different angle. A few years ago, I had several AA lights. A Surfire as well as a Streamline or two. I change batteries often, but I had damage to all due to leaking Costco branded AA batteries. The fire dept work for received a memo from...

Squirrel damage to shop and house

I lived in Edgewood WA and a neighbor fed EVERTHING! 4k damage from rats under our house. I was catching 5 to 10 rats a day, countless squirrels, and what a flipping MESS they left. The man moved to an assisted living center, his wife paid us to clean up the mess in their yard. Food source...

    The Cornwell anguish

I live in Puyallup. There is a dealer down the street from me, and we have a guy that stops weekly at our shops in the Bonney Lake area. If ya need something, PM me.

Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?

Very. Been a career firefighter for well over 20 years now. There are some strange happenings out there for sure.

Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?

I am sure I posted this somewhere else, sometime, but here we go, one of many. My dad and I were working on a 60 something Mustang. Cheap paint job before I got it, door jams were not done. So I masked them off and shot them. Mid 80s, different rules, so we tossed the remaining enamel...

Why am I the only one in my neighborhood to pay for a backflow test every year?

Doing the right thing even if no one else is doing it?

    Firefighters: simple but important question

Also, make sure the extinguisher(s) are rated for what you are may be dealing with. Among my extinguishers are two good size pressurized water ones. I remember in the fire academy, CO2 could not deal with wood and paper fires.

    Firefighters: simple but important question

As NUTTSGT said, by the doors. That being said, I have been in the fire service in one form or another since mid 82. Prevention is the most important thing, in my mind. I have a flammable liquids cabinet, and my large quantities of fuel are kept outside, in a small cattle shed. I love fire...

Why American tool companies struggle to stay competitive

A few years ago, I was listening to an interview with the president of Buck Knives. He said while they do have US sourced and manufactured knives, it cost him more to obtain the steel than to have a complete knife in hand, ready to be sold, from "overseas" of the same type.

Did I get a junk 4 post car lift?

Looks like some flash rust. My BendPac was not perfect, but it functions well. Wipe it off, light coat of oil and touch up with a spray can. Once it leaves the factory, lord knows what will happen to it in a warehouse and during transport.

Shop Vac USA Still In Limbo After Chinese Bought Its Remains...Looking for Recommendations

I decided to go Europe route. Nilfisk. It is over-engineered. https://www.nilfisk.com/en-us/products/carpet-cleaning/commercial-vacuum-cleaners/wet-and-dry-vacuum-cleaners/maxxi-35-120v60hz-us/p_107409095/ Some if it is a hassle, as it requires some adaptors to attach certain things. I lost...

    Gas Station as a garage

I know the area, and the potential problem. There is an old dry cleaners at 3rd Street NE and the RR tracks in downtown Puyallup. Still some cleanup going on there. It has been YEARS. The EPA has a memory like an elephant. You don't want someone else's problems/liability.

    Vintage Plomb 3/4 drive

I’ll take a look. It matches a Plomb on Etsy or something. I’ll try to post more pics, but posting as the OP was easy, adding, not so much.

    Vintage Plomb 3/4 drive

The one I got is a 5668, all round. The above was my first success at posting pics here. Do you know anything about Plomb toolboxes?

    Vintage Plomb 3/4 drive

A friend of the family recently retired after working on heavy equipment. Having a soft spot for Vintage Plomb tools, I had always looked his set of Plomb 3/4 ratchets, breaker bar and almost complete set of sockets from 3/4 to 2&1/8. We came to a fair price. Gotta figure out where the box...
