Yay, projects! :bounce:
The Customline is really coming along, looks good! BTW, what is the filler material you used on the tail light area?

I have been following your build progress on the customline on IG. Love all the great bodywork you are doing. I wish I had your skills.

Wow, you've got a lot done on the Customline. I really like those tail lights! And major old school bragging rights for using lead.

I was going to guess lead, but I thought to myself "nah, nobody uses lead any more". I thought it might be some new whiz-bang stuff I've never heard of. :D So, that's cool that you're using lead...on your lead sled.

What process do you use to get down to bare metal and keep the rust at bay?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It depends, in general I will chemical strip exterior sheet metal and media blast floors, door jambs, inner fenders, inside a bed etc.. as far a keeping rust away I don't have any magic product. In winter its not much of an issue because its in a climate controlled building. Summers on the other hand can present issues with all the humidity we get. You'll never see a completely bare vehicle in my shop. I typically work one panel at a time and it will go into primer before I move to the next.

Man it’s great to see somebody using body solder.

Sometimes its still the best repair. Although a very expensive repair. Thats a 140 bucks worth of lead on the bench.

Wow! Nice work on both of those projects. You've been busy. I really like the F100 and what you are doing with it.

Thanks, the F100 was about a year into the build when it was put on the back burner due to the station renovation. I really hope to be blowing it back apart and painting it by late summer.

Its good to see people from here pop up on IG. If I recognize the name or pics I usually follow back. I like seeing what garage journal people have going on because I know I miss a lot of good stuff on here.

I can't take credit for the tail lights. They were on the car when I bought it, but I do feel I improved the install and made it a long lasting mod. They are 56 Olds lights.

It was a good week for finding some very unique office items.

The one I'm most excited about is a Power X promotion with Pepsi Cola. I was able to find a full unopened bottle of Pepsi that is era correct to display it.

Then I came across this 5 qt Extra Duty can on ebay that somebody cut in half and made a tote out of it. And done a damn nice job at that. 13 bucks well spent. The thing I really like about it displayed on a shelf both side of the can will be visible

.

Another buy it when you see it because I've never seen another set like them
Sinclair branded towels

I'm glad the car stuff seems well received in here because it will also show what the true intent was for buying this property. The gas station is more of a bonus, although it has taken on a life of its own. My main purpose in buying the building was to work out of it and to be able to seperate my paint shop from the dust, dirt and grease.

I didn't have time post this the other day, but while stripping the deck lid on the customline I ran into a bit of a surprise.

I made a new repair panel from scratch out of 18 gauge. It all starts with a pattern

I'm off to spend the rest of the day working on straightening out the roof panel. It'll probably consume most of my weekend

Start your own thread about that compressor. There's probably more interest in that comp than you think. I know I would be interested. Comps are one of the things I look for to restore and resale.

Pretty sure I mentioned it, but your customline makes me think of my dad's 55 customline that's sitting at his place. Hopefully he works on it and get it going but if not I want to take on the challenge once I get in a place where I can financially do that project.

As with all old cars you're always bound to find surprises throughout the project, I've found things on my 79 bronco that I never would of thought I'd see!

The top came in for the Auto-Lite battery. I added a set of side terminal adaptors to fill the post holes. I didn't notice it before, but the battery case has a part number stamped on it that matches one of the part numbers on my 1957 Auto-Lite poster hanging in the office. It retailed for $18.95

You may have noticed in the earlier pics I picked up another Goodyear tire stand. With a bit of elbow grease it cleaned up pretty well. I figured you can't run a 50's era station and not have some wide whites on hand

When I was online ordering the Coker tire from Sumit I took a quick detour over to the memorabilia section to see if they had anything I couldn't live without. Turns out they did, 24" Ford button sign. Pretty neat look and I had a good spot for it.

53PontiacSD was gracious enough to send me an old pair of station coveralls to hang up. Thanks again Billy, I think they're pretty bad ***.

I just played catch-up on the station restoration. Great work and attention to getting all the period correct items. It all looks fantastic. I hope the town and it's elected officials appreciate your effort and have thanked you. Dennis

HD FLHX, I may be in your area later this year. If I do happen to get up your way, I'll send you a PM.

I've had this idea floating around in my head for a while now about creating a vintage speed shop in the front of the other half of the office area. I could easly put up a wall and create another room a bit bigger than the station office and still retain enough space for my office and some parts storage, which is what that area is currently being used for. I looked around online and found this one that I believe is in the Petersen Automotive museum. I like the look of the cases and shelving. I think done well it could be a neat idea.

U might as well add a mannequin to your list...it would help preserve those period coveralls. But i would not wash em.

I’ve seen the speed shop in person and is one of my favorite displays. You might be on to something. If you haven’t been to Don Long thread, he has a speed shop as part of his Main Street.

Came across this aerial pic of the downtown area from I believe to be sometime in the late 60's. I need to research that a bit more.

Dark Green- my building
Teal- Dodge dealership
Red- Wheelwright Sinclair station
Orange- Phillips 66
Blue- Ford dealership
Lighter green- Hotel Pattee
Yellow- Old post office

Pics of the Phillips 66 station. It was still open and a full service station when I moved to Perry in January of 2005.

The Sinclair station. This was one of three in town.
