Of course this is just for final mock up before we tear it down to zero for powdercoat and paint but it still feels amazing to be this far along. So we pulled the new bullet off the stand and dropped it into the chassis bolted up to the mock up 4l80 transmission.

So with a rolling chassis buttoned up we grabbed the cab and bed and spent a considerable amount of time aligning and bolting down the cab so we can figure out how to get the bed squared away.

Been a quick trip to get here and we are probably less then a 1/4 of the way but I sure am happy.

A picture is worth a thousand words but these two sum up how happy I am.

Wow, lots of work to this point! Do you guys work on much else on a daily basis?

Does the customer ever stop in to check progress or are they just waiting for the turnkey unit to be picked up?

Also I'm curious (if its appropriate to discuss) how the payment is handled, do you get regular progress payments for materials and such or is it just a lump sum all at the end?

Daily basis I am the owner of a glass contracting company. I build stuff in my off time back in my Hot Rod Shop.

This is not a pro build, it is a private build for my best friend done in my shop.

This is the owner of this truck.

Where's the love folks?

I really expected to get some affirmations now that this build is sitting on the ground.

Do any of you people actually work on cars in your garages? LOL:lol::lol_hitti

:D You know the answer to that.

What frame are you using? The more I look at your pics the more I like it.

That is the original frame with a back half from No Limit Engineering that I have drastically modified.

Final mock up is complete, bed cross members and frame tabs built and welded on. moved it all over to assembly side for final pictures. Will tear it down and send everything out for powder coating and plating, and thus begins the sheet metal side of this build.

I was much more comfortable during the mechanical side, as fabrication is my strong suit but I reckon I will figure out this "tin Bending" and we should be OK.

That truck is killer, Robert. I am very jealous of your skills and progress. Did you use the No Limit front end as well as the rear? I love the stance and ride hight. Did you modify the front end to get it that low? I'm getting ready to start on my 56 Chevy p/u soon and have a Heidt's Superide II that is going in and I'm thinking of notching the crossmember an inch to drop it a little lower. Do you think that is a wise thing to do?
Keep up the posts with progress. I'm color blind so you will have to tell me your color scheme.

Hi Mike,

Yes this is the "wide Ride" from No limit. It is configured in the standard height.

As you know the 56 uses a completely different frame and the No Limit set up is not the same as the one I am using so I can't speak for where the final chassis height will end up on your truck. The Heidt stuff is very nice and was one of the directions I considered. We just decided on Rob's stuff as he races his own truck and that is the set up we desired.

As far as "wise" choices, I doubt I am the person to ask such important questions of. I do build towards a lower more sports car style chassis height but focus on making sure nothing important is below the frame to prevent that horrible situation when I drive over something I should not have. :wtf:

I just stumbled on to this thread and can't believe the progress you have made since August. The work is pro caliber and would take most shops years to get this far.
The stance is spot on and love the fact there is not a LS motor in there.
Keep up the fantastic work.

We have the frame stripped completely. Are building block off plugs so we can get it over to the powder coater as soon as it quits raining.

What color are you doing the frame and will it be gloss? That gets me in the mood to work on my 56 sbss.

The color is caledl Anthracite. Sort of a metallic grey. We hope to get it in a satin or semi gloss. Just shiny enough that we can keep it clean.

I'm all over this thread. Besides the top notch work, everything being done is pretty self explanatory to me. The videos are good too. Especially for someone like me with a limited attention span.

I just found your thread today, and wanted to say that the mods you have done to the frame are fantastic! It's great that you got lucky with the ****** change, and didn't have to redo your fab work to get it to fit.

The following thought is not meant to be derogatory toward you or Greg...but looking at the front suspension, I don't like how No Limit designed the brackets to allow the ends of the A-arm bushings to be unsupported. It looks like it might put too much strain on the long mounting bolts. Just my view anyway, from here in the cheap seats. :D

One question regarding the floor coating in your shop. What is it & how long have you had it down? I don't see many marks on it, so I assume it's pretty strong. Or you are super careful on that side.

Anyway, love the build, I'm looking forward to your continued progress!

Yea I did not care for that dangling lower control arm either. So I built a mount welded to the frame on the rear.

You can almost see it in this picture, I can get a better shot if you like

This is something Rob @ No Limit does on his own race truck and I understand on his full frames now too, We did it as soon as we had it mocked up.

The Floor is a 3 part epoxy, and it is tough but scratches up something terrible with steel caster wheels. We try to remember and toss down mats when we are rolling heavy items, We also have converted all our casters to urethane and that has helped a lot. ;)

The added brace does look like it would do the job nicely. How long will the frame be at the powder coat shop?

I wonder if your floor coating is the same stuff we have at my work. I have no idea of the brand, but like yours, it's pretty strong until it gets scratched. Ours is also very close to the same color as yours.

Looking forward to seeing your project come back together! :)

Here is a better shot of the added gusset/mount for the rear of the lower control arm (Don't mind the bolt and washer, that is just a plug we installed as we send this thing off to powder coating Monday Morning)
