I appreciate the comments guys. May be time for me to focus on what I have for a while.

Keep the good stuff coming everybody.

jpickar that's a 6 incher Ampco.

Guys I didn't see any markings on this Snap On chest. Also forgot to photo the drawers but it's a six drawer. 3 little ones in the top row, and three long drawers. Based on catalog research I think it's a KR-56 from the late 40's to mid 50's.

Ok couldn't help myself. Spent $27 today

Got a clamp, and Columbian 3-cd for $20. Only because my buddy text me and said he was having a tag sale, and to make an offer before he sent these to the scrapper. So I offered $20 and he held them for me.
Then I stopped at an estate sale after a late breakfast with the family and offered $5 old milk can and got my son a beach chair for $2. Most of the tools were picked thru and passed on a small Columbian bench vise and some hammers.
I don't know much about the value of woodworker vises but I will dunk it in the e-tank and clean her up.

b03084a0d022eb88748c52f320ef44d9.jpgI wasn't sure whether to post this here, or in Tool of the Old World. Went to the flea market in Vienna Austria today. What few tools were there were mostly junk. But did find a little Swiss souvenir for 1 euro ($1.15). The guy had boxes with about 50 of them labeled PB Swiss.

3bay,

That is a beautiful snappy box that you picked up  Looks like a bunch of other really nice stuff also in the photo's

I hear you on the overwhelming thing. I was off yesterday hitting all the sales which was many as you mentioned. I was tired when I got home !. So of course the girlfriend wants to go out today.......got to do what you got to do... so what happens ? go to an estate sale and the sales guy begs me not to leave empty handed.. so I came home with a another tool box I didn't want or need.

Like others have said I am going to lay low for awhile also. Yesterday was too much.

Hopefully I will have some photo's up some time but with the monsoon going on now it will be awhile.

As usual many great finds and fantastic deals this weekend, thanks for sharing folks

Yes it does have the spring loaded mechanism. Unfortunately it appears that one of the slides is bent slightly. It's just enough to make the drawer stick a little. Hopefully I can straighten it.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I had to check mine, same as yours, divider only in the top drawer. If you can't they still make the slides for those.

Well, here's my pick up for today - same vintage as one that I bought originally in 1976. It's still in the back of my A3, but the pictures show a pretty good description of it's condition. The wood looks to be in good condition, though I will be removing all the black paint.

The step has four ribs just as my other one has.

One of hand cranks is broken, so if anyone knows where I can get one, please reply.

With this one, I now have three - one too many - so if any GJ member is in the Columbus, OH area and is interested in a Black and Decker Workmate, type 4, in very good condition, let me know. I'll not place it up for sale anywhere else.

Crowntop 2 HP motor in NOS condition. (no signs it ever had a pulley attached to the shaft) - $10

Guys I think I need to take a break for a bit. I hit 4 big tool sales in a tiny few block radius over 2 days. Fun finding everything but then it gets to the point where I get stuff home and it feels like work. Once in a while I go a bit overboard and get overwhelmed with this stuff. Not to mention my wallet took a hit.
Here are some of my new finds. I'm leaving out about 3/4 of what I brought home. Too much to go through and I just plain overdid it this time.

Here we go:

3Bay:
Completely understand what you're talking about. I got to the point last year where I was spending too much time, money and effort at estate sales. My garage, which is already way too small, was getting packed with tools. I ended up taking a full year off. It was tough at first, but I feel that I gained a better perspective. I started going back about a month ago, and am not overspending, which is good. However, if I was finding the quality and quantity of the stuff you've shown us, I don't know if I could be as restrained! Great finds, you ****!,

Great score on the Parks Planer Scimonetti, there has been one on the local CL for $300 for about a year, I have not even tried to make an offer 'cause I want one for what you paid, or less...

Here's my finds for today and a couple weeks ago.
From the second day of a estate sale, the transfer punch and drill bits were $3.50 each. A handful of misc. The blue handles are for files I guess, that's what I plan them for.
246b363c450471e40c98208193a1147d.jpg

From a yard sale, a box with mostly new USA bits, the index is metric, but 1/2 full with fractional.

Tap cons and the box of large hex drive sheet metal screws, my favorite for mounting stuff around the shop.

Very nice! Those plugs and tapcons ain't cheap when you have to buy them, as I'm sure you know :D

Yeah, there a chunk of change. I only use the nylon ones, they just seem to hold up better. I think there about $ 8.00 each at HD .
I use tap cons as small lags for wood. They hold great and never had a issue with them.

Here is a better picture of the pretty much seized vise and the c clamp. The clamp only says 406 drop forged steel so I don't know the maker.

Bagged:

With some wire wheeling on the threads, plus some PB Blaster to loosen things up, wouldn't be surprised if both vise and clamp come out in working order.

BTW, like the speed handle on that Columbian woodworking vise.

Thanks Mike. I'm going to electrolysis the vise. Might throw the clamp in the tank too.

"zkling has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space."

I was going to point you to the ESTATE SALE FINDS thread below, there is an unidentified roller that I believe may be an old Proto/Plomb. I know either you or Outlaw can identify it, check it out:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=295417

I saw that one: I'm not recognizing it at all.

Check his next post Outlaw, or the thread he started. That was the pic in the ad, it turned out to be a cman parks planer for sale, not the thing pictured.

Can you run these indoors - ie during a power failure?

Cheers

Jim

PS: It sat there at the curb for 1+ hour before we looped back and picked it up. No takers at free? WTF

We used one indoors during a two-week power failure back in 1996. That was the last time we got more than six inches of snow...

Keep it near an open window. They consume a ton of oxygen and exhaust carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.

They also pump out a ton of heat, which is why we had it running indoors (albeit beside the 4'x3' open window!)

When camping, the lamp always stays outside. Too much risk when it's in a tent.

Nice score jim, and This ^^^ is good advise. CO poisoning is bad enough, but many manage to suffocate every year doing this without adequate ventilation.

I'd give this added advise: get a battery operated CO alarm. set it away from the lantern window, but between you and the lantern. (or other open flame like a stove...)

Better safe than sorry... (or dead...)

The propane lanterns are quite safe to run indoors as long as your house is not 100% air tight. Just crack a window a tiny bit if you want to keep the heat in or if its summer, you'll end up with windows open anyways or the heat from the lanterns will make it unbearable inside.
The liquid fuel lanterns put off more fumes and require more ventilation. I try to avoid running liquid fuel lanterns in the house simply due to the smell alone.

Sorry G_P I can't agree with this statement on Propane vs Gas. I'd like to see something that substantiates this statement. While gas DOES have a stronger odor, I think either will create a near equal amount of CO.

Remember, CO is in fact an odorless gas.. You cannot smell it at all. if you think you can you are smelling some other things in the flame plume. This is exactly why they add odors to methane and other natural gasses...

Ok, pics finally. First stop at the estate sale produced this pile along with some boxes(not shown) that hold negatives. Kid will use them for model paint supplies. My pile was two Jorgensen clamps, unopened box of staples, NOS General brass plumb bob, plumbing washers(could have used one last night) and a bucket of steel wool different grades. I spent $15 total.
01883.jpg

Got down the road and thought about the Disston saw Scimonetti picked up recently and decided to go back for it after picking the kid up from work. When I went back, it was still there(center) along with the Craftsman(left) and unknown saw on the right. They were marked $5, $5 and $2 but the lady let me have them for $10 flat. the Disston is marked Teflon. :dunno:
01884.jpg

After paying, I had exactly $33 bucks in my pocket and there was a Dremel Advantage set, practically nib marked $40. I asked the nice lady if she'd take $30, she sent me to the woman running the gig and I made her the offer. This is one of the pro's that always has schtuff marked retail so I didn't expect much but she says, "it's new, $40 is a deal, how much you got?" I showed her my pocket, all $33 bucks and she says "that'll work, I'll take $33"...:lol_hitti took my last dollar....:willy_nil

Yep, homemade wooden one. Just as confused as I was!

I emailed and they accidentally posted the wrong picture and it actually was a planer. I went to buy whatever it was sight unseen and it turned out to be a craftsman parks.

Edit: nine beat me to it.

OK, Got it. and great score!

Wait a minnit, you are still under age right? :see:

OK Busy day, went yardsailing, then to a buddy from high school's "Grand Opening" of his 4300 SF shop for his car collection... Un-Effing-believable place...:

There were also a pile of vintage show cars; an amazing number were his...
I'll try to get some pics in the "Show us your Garage" section as soon as my daughter coaches me on how to get the ****** things off my phone and into my computer...

Yardsailing:

Had one pretty good stop and two very minor stops and the rest.... :wtf: :dunno: Including one Estate sale that asked silly money for everything... :eyecrazy: I told them "you want this stuff more than I do..."

The 6" scale was from the past, I found it in my rig while unloading today...
A buck for the three Williams Pin & Hook spanners at one of the small sales and the DOE is a Plvmb LA - $1 - That was all for the minor stops.

attachment.php

And the best honey hole. There was a lot more, but this was what I cherry picked for a Jackson:

B&D Pro 4-1/2" mini grinder needs a cord but runs smooth as silk; AMPCO Aluminum Bronze flat tip chisel, 2" Pony Clamp, General Hand vise, and a Lufkin 100 ft tape

attachment.php

Plvmb and some Proto; The pickle fork is interesting as its smaller than usual.

attachment.php

Blue Point wrenches, and SO everything else: Another still smaller Pickle fork! I'll have to look this up for its intended use... Mos of the SO sockets were from the socket tray, the ones in there now are S-K, Cornwell, MACK Walden, etc...

attachment.php

Socket Box and Husky sockets;

attachment.php

And marked WI__A, so I'm guessing Williams...

like some of you, I'm on "break" til I get a lot sorted out... and take care of some projects that gotta take higher priority right now...

however...

I check out CL every morning still, once or twice during the day... and e-mailed this guy the second I saw it.

$35. How the hell could I say no? Picked it up Friday, haven't even had time to take it out of my car yet. Matches my floor standing 150 perfectly, down to the Vari-Slow option that I have on both :D Gave him $40 anyway, and may swing by his place tomorrow to go through everything else he has...
