I see them on CL all the time. Or maybe the same ones for $15-$50 in my area. I just thought they were a flimsy work station. For $15 maybe I should go grab one. I could probably use it camping too. Hmm. :headscrat

They work OK for camping, and I used to take first one then two 200's up when I still took a full sized truck, but it is a weight and space penalty. I travel a lot lighter these days.

As to "only for home owner use" yeah, given near unlimited space they probably do lose some appeal. I have WAY too many bench tools and nowhere near enough bench (or any other space) so racking/stacking most of them makes sense. Different things work for different people.

As part of an auction from last week I was able to get these three PLUMB hatchets. I just couldn't turn down 3 nice old guys like this for $30. One has a handle about 18" long and the other two are 13". The last one being an old Boy Scout model with the leather sheath and original Boy Scout markings.

This pc monitor was free. Perfect for the dual monitor setup I needed for work.
I mounted it to my cabinet with an L bracket.

RM, an all original BSA hatchet like that is a great find. The collectors of BSA gear bid those up pretty good. Well done!

I like them for the cool factor. I really like the aluminum frame. But more importantly, I now have about 4 grinders without stands, and I plan on using it to mount whichever one I need. I got the idea from this picture posted here on GJ:View media item 46175

Wow, that's got to be one of those staged Popular Mechanics "perfect shop" photos.:lol_hitti

Actually that's a pretty good idea for efficiently storing and using bench top power tools, I might have to try it out...

I went back to the clean out sale in Stoneham that Jakemac and I picked this past weekend after seeing pictures online of their 1977 AMF Sunfish sailboat. The owner wanted two grand for it, but it was grungy, completely apart, one of the booms was missing, and all the rope was rotted. Oh and it had been sitting outside for years. After looking it over, I left my name and an offer of $200 for the pile as is. That's probably still too much.

Not wanting to leave empty handed, I grabbed the following left overs from a still extensive pile of stuff:

4e271f219ac6bdb45056151a0934745a.jpg

- Antique Horseshoe brand clothes wringer...$10. Neat antique bought to flip.

bd23ada9a0ee6aac28b9b74efea23868.jpg

- Ancient Emerson 1/3 hp Alternating Current electric motor...$10. This baby was HEAVY. I don't know if it works or not, but I thought it looked neat and wanted to save it from the scrap pile, at least for a little while longer. It has some broken cast iron on its foot. I figure it dates from the '20s or '30s. Google doesn't seem to know anything about it. Anyone have advice on how to tell the manufacturing date of this motor?

2fbfd545b21dafe5b9580fff3bd41e11.jpg
- Niagara bead roller, minus the mounting bracket...$5. It doesn't turn freely, but I've sprayed it down with penetrating lube - we'll see how it goes in the next few days.

a56be5137440500e4c70d0063256d4b3.jpg

- No name 3 1/2" drill press machine vise...$5. I now have two more machine vises than I really need, but that's okay because I also have two more drill presses than I really need. [emoji4]

May go back one last time if I can sneak out over lunch tomorrow.

Ok first shot at this...hang on folks. Found this for 100.00 on CL last weekend and was told it come from a machine shop which might explain as to why I'm having a hard time finding out the details on it. Either this or that just doesn't line up. Starting to think it's a Frankenstien from the mid 40's to mid 50's with some machine shop lovin. I'll (hopefully) post pics.

Besides the pole, it don't look to bad. I do wonder how they got holes all over the table instead of the normal arc of shame though :lol_hitti

Yeah i seen the pole at the time I got it, and it might have been a deal breaker if I didn't have endless supply of shafts at work. It has also crossed my mind that it might have started life as a bench top and been "converted" to a stand up. Which if that is the case I'll need to decide if thats the route I wanna take it. Also found a handle assembly on ebay where whoever tried to weld on this one and i'll end up with an extra handle. As to the arc of shame....machine shop... who knows. I wish it could talk, that'd be cool. It looks to me like it's a stand up base that has had the shaft flange machined down to take that pipe diameter (which is larger). Then the shaft welded on. Going to try to break it down this weekend.

I thought they were closed today because of the rain or I would have gone. I'm going to try to sneak over there tomorrow, but it may be difficult. There were a few things that I wanted to see if they were still there. If so, any sales may depend on what crazy price they put on things. Their rationale can be a little hard to pin down.

Garage sale and pawn shops this weekend. In no particular order, lots of decent Plvmb, snap on, older craftsman, tons of proto, and many others. Some specialty ford model A brake tools and distributor wrench, a few old tappet wrenches, lots of adjustables (my favorite), and of course the Mac toolbox. She needs lots of love but I think I can pay off all these wrenches and probably profit on top of that when I clean it up and sell it. Oh, grand total for all this: $143 USD.

Unless they pics make it look tons worse than what it really is. In that condition, not worth the time IMHO.

maybe well worth more than scrap, some old motors go for 300 bucks people collect em.

Try here, sure there are folks there that would know.

They were still asking $150 for the horizontal band saw w/ no blade. I offered $50 cash but was turned down. The drill press and big Snap On were still there too. Lots of smalls still under tarps and stuff just sitting out in the rain.

Rose is the name of the lady running the clean out. She plans to open up the attic and basement over the next few weekends, so there well be more to come.

Nope, couldn't justify playing hooky. There will be more opportunities to hit this mother lode.

Although I too am getting a pile of stuff I need to do something about, deferred projects, etc. I've got three weeks of travel coming up, so the buying will cease briefly (unless I find a sale in Montgomery, AL)...[emoji12]

Well, I went back to the Stoneham sale this morning. They're still asking $150 for the Cummings horizontal bandsaw. I was hoping that the small SnapOn carry box was still there, but no such luck.

Still, after digging deep, I was able to come up with a few things. Some were buried at at the bottom of water filled buckets.

Pic 1 -
3 - 14/3 cords w/Hubbel 15a straight pin plugs and 15a Twist-Loc receptacles.
Craftsman #1 tappet wrench (another one)
unknown hammer head (only marked "1")
2 - small Cman screwdrivers
Craftsman 1/4" combo wrench (V^)
Bonney #V-720 1/4dr breaker bar

Pic 2 -
SK (Dresser) metric combo wrenches (13mm, 15mm, 17mm)
2 - BluePoint 6" rules w/ Decimal Equivalency Chart on back
MAC #P201-XA #1 phillips screwdriver

Pic 3 - Nasty looking SnapOn
#TM63 1/4dr flex driver
2 - toasted #CT-4B CLEAR HANDLE picks (the handles are hollow)
#SSDP-22 stubby #2 phillips screwdriver
#S5912 Brake Tool
#DS-2422 3/8"-11/32" ignition wrench

Pic 4 -
E. Edelmann & Co #103 Tube Flaring Tool (multi size)
K-D #202 puller

And now, the pièce de résistance ! :D

Back in the garage, in a spot that was buried last week, was a shelf that had a black box on it. It turned out to be ..................

....................... A #416 Parker Hand [tube] Beading Set in the original wooden box with sliding lid == COMPLETE ! :bounce:

This is for beading tubing (not that I have a use for this, but how often do you find one ?)

Everything in both posts cost me $23.

Jake, what horizontal bandsaw do they have? Those "clear hollow picks" are probably just test lights missing their back cap/wire.

That set is a big buck item. Aircraft Tool Supply sells a set similar to that.

It is labeled as a Cummings.

The SO things may be test lights, I'm not sure. The hole isn't threaded for a cap. They were such a mess that I almost left them behind, but I'd never seen clear handles on SnapOn before so I threw them in my bag just for the heck of it. See pic after clean-up below.

Thanks Pete - To be honest, I grabbed it because I thought the box was cool and all the parts were there.

Yea, those are old test lights missing the bulb/wire/cap piece. I'm sure they will make great awls now.

I just had a chance to look up the number. You were right, they were test lights. Still, as you said, with a little grinding, they'll make good awls.

This is all I could find Wednesday.....like a lot of you guys here, I too am going to cut back a little. I say that but whenever I'm at a yard sale or flea market my tool buying disease takes over and I get lightheaded and need a tool fix! :eyecrazy:

20150701_162813.jpg

Vice-grips by Irwin, they say "the original" on the other side but I don't see a coo anywhere (most likely imports)

20150701_162834.jpg

Two straight slot and one phillips mini Kobalt pocket screwdrivers

$1.50 for all

Dave, do those red-handled, needle nose pliers under the yellow pair have a brand? I have a pair exactly the same, but can't spot a brand on them. I'm just curious as to what they are.

There is no brand name. If I were to guess it would be Jensen.

Jensen sold quite a few quality/precision tools for the electronics industry under their brand name. I don't know the actual OEM. (maybe Utica, Vaco or Klein??)

Jensen Tools was taken over by Stanley Supply but SS still sells Jensen branded tools.

Anyone have any more info on Jensen Tools???

Back in the garage, in a spot that was buried last week, was a shelf that had a black box on it. It turned out to be ..................

....................... A #416 Parker Hand [tube] Beading Set in the original wooden box with sliding lid == COMPLETE ! :bounce:

This is for beading tubing (not that I have a use for this, but how often do you find one ?)

Everything in both posts cost me $23.
Nice finds, Jake! I love finding deals that others have walked by. Put that box up on EBay and pay for your purchases this week and last, your gas for all the trips, and your 4th of July weekend!

Ha, not likely. My 4th weekend will be spent the same as every other day of my life lately. Sitting at home getting nothing done while I scour CL for the next big sale.

Did I mention that I'm taking a break from sales ? I must have forgotten about that. View media item 38280

Hit a few yard sales on 7/2/2015, but only bought 3 items.

Best purchase was a pair of well used vintage leather motorcycle saddle bags with fringe/spikes and rivets. Has one missing spike and couple of leather loops missing, but would look great on a vintage motorcycle. Pics 1-4

Couple of milk cans. One a 10 gallon with SMP initials on handle (i.e. may be from Canada). Pic 5

Other one was a 3 gallon marked Sambos and from Buhl Ohio. Pic 6
