I picked up a 1-1/4 Thorsen, a 1-1/16 Challenger, and a 3/8 Indestro ratchet. $5. The ratchet handle is torqued a bit, but after cleaning and lubing the internals it works fine. The Thorsen wrench is crazy beefy, about 5/8 of an inch thick. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1420321707.229604.jpg

CL deal due to no good garage sales. I didn't get soaked but I did pay more than I planned. I thought $90 was a bit much for these.....

Penens 1/2" Ratchet, Starrett 1" mic and Brown and Sharpe 2" to 3" mic. So we sweetened the deal with this [emoji1]

Here's the end of the year big buys size wise... although all things were good buys money wise..

Lista rolling work cabinet..
View media item 46805(not keeping it... flipping it to add to the pole barn fund..)

Parks 12" (Sears) planer.. Works great with a massive motor on it.. Only problem is the thing is dirty-and the transmission selector lever pivot mount is cracked (cast iron).

View media item 46804
The previous owner had kept it as part of his dad's tooling.. Strange story was his name was "Paris" and we were on our way home from Paris, Tennessee when we detour'd to pick it up.. He ran a board through it for me and I checked the thickness with a micrometer and it was perfect from one side to the other..

View media item 46803
Also-take note of the Napa Royal Ride cabinet--it'll eventually become a shop fridge..

Blue - Was that the sale in Salem with all the radio vacuum tubes ?

I was there yesterday, some of the prices were high on the first day. But the guy was easy to deal with on untagged items. I saw that DP on the bench in the garage and thought that the price on the tag was a bit high for a 12"(?) DP, but would be a good buy at less. You got it at a great price.

Were the toolboxes still there ? The top was a more modern Craftsman, but I wasn't sure what the vintage bottom roller was. It had odd castors, kinda like a medical cart.

I was interested in the pool table, but didn't have the money or the interest in lifting it.

Yep, that was the one. Most of the good stuff had been picked clean - no sign of Craftsman tool boxes. The bottom roller was still there, but I passed on it. I too was interested in the pool table, but also wasn't interested in the expense of moving it.

I don't mind hitting estate sales right before closing - you can usually pick stuff up for a pittance. The down side is that it usually is stuff no one else wants. Its worked for me so far.

Sorry, not a block. Just a block-like object. Torqueman has a thread about that model around here somewhere.

Stage: it looks like you got some nice old ratchets. WTF is the tool that looks like an old vise handle? by the way i have to break the bad news to you because your block is the plastic imitation and not worth much and doesn't have the power that the ones on the block thread do. read the thread Tourqueman started comparing the plastic block to the old ones.

If you mean that steel bar with a black knob on the end, it's for turning the handwheels on big valves. A gate valve with pressure on one side can be very difficult to break loose, and that bar will increase the leverage.

First CL score of the year!

First Box.... Any clue on maker? It's actually decent, should clean up pretty nice...

Not sure if that was "factory" to the box or not, but pretty cool.

...I need to move some boxes in the next few weeks... think my "to refinish" pile is up to 20 now...

Anyway, so here's the goodies inside:

And another similiar pic that didn't upload... whole lot of older wrenches, mostly billings / armstrong... and a JC Higgins Bike Wrench! Finally something of that company for me!

Box #2....

Either Park was sold heavily in and around Philly, or I'm a Park magnet.

Well, guess I'm now starting my CMan =V= 3/4" drive set!

Oh, and:

That little guy ;)

Not a bad haul for $53, and got a new hookup for tools, as he wants me to hunt down vintage wood tools for him.

Getting garage/estate sale withdrawal so went out to a couple antique stores that sometimes have tools. Down side is I had forgotten what retail prices look like. Passed on several carry tool boxes--SK, Huot, no names, an interesting older c-man top box and a flat green plomb tools box, might have been for a tool set of some kind? She wanted $20 for it, just seemed too much. Did I go wrong?

What I did get was a jack of some kind, marked with what looks like BC. Also a Ford wrench, a one-piece screwdriver marked TCW, a Buck Bros. 4-way multi tool, a New Britain handle with 3 torx bits (will lighten my junkyard toolkit), some half-inch sockets: an S-K Wayne 5/8 spark plug socket with rubber insert intact, one Proto and one Bonney, three-eighths sockets: three Proto impact sockets and a Proto swivel impact 12 point, quarter inch sockets from Husky USA, snap on, Mac, c-man, and SK, a 2 inch SK extension, and a made in Japan swivel head driver that looks pretty useful. Never seen a Ford wrench before so that was cool. $20 for everything, and met some other tool addicts.

Subscribed. Glad to see this new thread going. I was preoccupied quite a bit last year, and didn't get to spend much time here. I hope 2015 will be different.

Great pickups by everybody so far. Crazy to think that this is already on 6 pages after 3 days. Its not garage sale season around here and CL is dead. First swap meet of the year is next weekend so hopefully there will be some stuff worth picking up there.

I can tell from just the picture that the face plate on that Plomb ratchet is snapped right through the screw holes. Had that same thing happen on one I bought, except that I couldn't tell it was broken until I tried to disassemble it for cleaning. A Proto 5249 rebuild kit should fit it, but you'll have to replace the screws with the face plate as I think the thread count was slightly different (or at least my Plomb screws wouldn't thread into the new Proto face plate). Still a good ratchet and worth fixing up or at least saving for parts. Good score!

Just took it apart.... luckily, just bent! After I bend it back, it may be snapped on the outsides of the screw holes, but that can be repaired.

I'm shocked that even like that, it worked

Hit up a muddy estate sale this morning.... nothing "you ****" worthy, but a bunch of lathe tools for cheap to play with!

For $30, not too bad... now to go clean these up and play with my lathe!

Jeff: nice pick. i need to learn to stop at the Habitat store i drive by a few times a week because they do have some decent things now and then and it's a great cause.

Rick: are you like me and a few others that you just can't have enough of those butterfly clamps? nice work

Waggoneer: since you spent as much as most of us will spend in a year or two at sales i'm guessing we all wouldn't mind you taking up a few posts of 7 pictures each with some more details and close ups. sound ok guys can Wagoneer post up a few more pictures??

well its flex and it could be a socket, but i dont know what make it is. 100% blank. no markings at all.

BOTH sides are 1/2 drive female. im not sure if it was used with an old female ratchet or its designed to be used with an anvil ratchet and the other end works some kind of valve or mechanism? i try not to pass up the odd stuff.
:D
it prob weighs a pound ore more. its heavy.

has anyone else notice that the new batch of lowes kobalt boxes look like the equip? obviously not the same quality, but the drawer and recessed pull handles are very very similar.

From this past week's sale

NOS Locking Pliers set with pouch, circle I stamping, new, and lightly used 1/2 deep G series sockets and Crown logo parts cabinet.

Westline by Indestro/Duro, missing a few sockets that I'll never find.

Proto SAE set and Rubbermaid Adjustable. I usually would skip the Rubbermaid, but it seems to be tight and surprisingly well made.

Neat score there oak_park! You might want to post the missing sockets for that Westline/Indestro set in a Wanted thread in GJ classified section... you'd be surprised how many of us have oddball/orphan sockets laying around!

Nice snag on that old S-K socket case, Jeff!

Cool, thanks. I knew it was an oddball. Have to wonder who made it. Some time ago my friend had a chrome super long Wright regular deep well that he sold with other sockets. I have not seen another one like it since.

Picked up a 60 gallon DeVilbiss air compressor tank and a two cylinder cast iron air pump for $100 off Craigslist. He gave me a SqD pressure switch too.

First grab of the year. Picked this up for $25.

Cart is made by Homak. In great shape, but no key. Should be an easy fix. The three drawer is in good shape and will replace the plastic three drawer for my son's first tool set.

Scored these 2 nice Mitutoyo indicators this morning on CL for $25. Not sure when I will need .0001 accuracy in my garage but if I do I got it.
