Went to 3 yard sales while the wife was in church this morning. First one was a bust, They sold out yesterday, but was too lazy to pull down their signs and craigslist ad.
Yard sale two, was a place that buys storage units, so he has yard sales all the time. I got a small box of snap on sockets and an old craftsman ratchet, an old Plvmb ratchet and a thorsen 1/4 inch drive ratchet.

Yards sale #3, My sister called me and told me that she had just left a sale that had tools and a couple old vises. So I went right over and he had just sold the vises but I picked out another old craftsman rachet, a snap on breaker bar and a few nuts for like a small angle grinder. I spent 32.00 total

The craftsman ratchet is the "BE' series. It's the first craftsman line. 1931! Nice find. Can you take a better pic of the back of it? The missing screw is chrome plated copper. Not going to be a easy find

Over here in England we have car boot sales which are probably something like your flea markets or garage sales. Its amazing the old tools that turn up that people over here havnt even heard of. Picked up a Bonney 4085 1/2" speeder the other day for £1 (not sure what that is in US money, not much though). Have a Snap On 3/8" ratchet dated 1945 that has no markings other than AT8022. The guy was going to throw it away! I believe this is from the Packard built Rolls Royce Merlin engine tool kit used in various old warbirds inc P-51 Mustang. Can anyone confirm this? Are these common across the pond? Sorry no photo cant get them off my phone! other than the finish and markings it is identical to my Snap On Ferret ratchet from 1944. Thanks in advance for any info, Andy.

Not many sales. I did manage a few picks though. A Columbian 3 3/4 post vise , Columbian 403 1/2, 70 lb Armstrong Vulcan anvil, old wooden block plane , a newer Stanley handy man plane and a WHATSIT??? I think it's a sort of chain boomer dated march 8 1906 but really just a WAG !:dunno: logging or rail road???

Anyway paid 235.00 for every thing.

They are pretty plentiful around me. I only picked this one because it was there already and it was 30 bucks. I plan to mount it and one other I have on the end of partition walls in my shop some day.

Hello again, gang. I've been lurking and watching some of the great deals you guys have gotten this year, but I've been too busy to hit many sales. And when I have attended sales, I just couldn't take time at the moment to post photos. Sorry.

Anyway, I recently hit an interesting estate sale. LOTS of older tools, hardware, and some car parts. But the seller had NO idea of tool values, so some items were way overpriced, and some items were way underpriced. Following are some photos:

First item I bought was small plastic tool box, priced as shown:

Inside were lots of Asian-made tools, but quite a few USA tools too, including Snap On, Matco, Mac, C-man, Plomb, etc. The little 1/4 ratchet is a Walden, and it works fine. I left the Asian tools inside the box for the photo.

I plan to take the imported tools to leave in my hunting cabin, where they might be useful, and I won't have to worry about theft.

Here is another shot of a general pile of tools I got there that day. The old model kits aren't worth much, but I thought they were cool, and I didn't really pay anything for them at all. There is a Mac socket and a deepwell Cornwell, a good ****** block, Blue Point DOE wrench, Hot Wheels badge, Pflueger reel, 4 good USA-made C-clamps (1 is marked craftsman; two are aluminum, smallest one is Cincinnati brand). There is a gorgeous Greenfield drill index (more on that later), a small Thorsen ratchet, and two big old 1/2" drive ratchets with push-through drives. The two spools of wire were a buck apiece, and we use LOTS of them in putting up snow fences at our outdoor events. Big Crescent wrench is in great shape. The meat cleaver will be used to split deer carcasses at the hunting cabin.
<a href="http://s1297.photobucket.com/user/wirth4/media/Estate%20Sale%20New%20Leb%207-15/DSCN6115_zpsowuv7smu.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag40/wirth4/Estate%20Sale%20New%20Leb%207-15/DSCN6115_zpsowuv7smu.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DSCN6115_zpsowuv7smu.jpg"/></a>

Here is close-up photo of the Greenfield drill bit index. It's nickel-plated cast metal. Not yet sure if it's cast iron, steel, or maybe even brass. I snatched it immediately. I have a ZILLION brand new number-size drill bits, and was glad to get it...especially at this price.

Got some car parts there too. Here is an older MGB deck lid, in really great shape. Shown with it are two sets of seat rails. Not yet sure if they are MG too? There was an MG there for sale, and other MG parts lying around.

Got some other cool vintage car parts too. The gauges are not part of a set, but vintage SW gauges are always popular, and there are others. The speedo has a curved-glass lens, and is "Airguide" or some similar brand.

Got some Chevy parts in the mix. Here are two left-side quarter-panel chrome strips off of 1963 Chevy's. One is Super Sport, the other is Impala. Also found a great condition used '55 Chevy inside rear view mirror, and a bezel for the speaker on the dash of a 1955 or 56 Chevy.

I had to hurry, as I had brought my wife along from our office at lunch time, and we needed to get back to work. She had a really big backlog of work to do, AND this estate sale had NOTHING but tools and "man-junk."

So the last thing I selected was a Hein-Warner floor jack. It is a little longer and heavier than the other HW's I have. Rated for 1-1/2 ton.

The seller had a huge price on it, but everyone was telling him he was too high. So at the last minute I wheeled it over to my pile, and asked how much for everything. It was $75. I took it.

Picked this grinder and stand up for $40 and this cord reel for $10.
The stand is adjustable from 24" to 36" I believe. It's all the way down in the pics. The grinder is missing a switch and the cord needs replacement. I think I will part it out.

Here is a pic with the stand adjusted up.

The stand is made in China but it's pretty heavy and I like the wide base. I'm going to see if I can sleeve the already heavy tube, add some more weight to the bottom, and maybe I can use it as a vise stand. :dunno:

This is a decent cord reel with 40 feet of 12 gauge wire for $10. New in box.

The lady was selling her late husbands tools but most of it was picked thru.

Got this today from an on-line auction - primarily for the vintage Kreg K2 all aluminum jig. The jig alone is worth more than I paid for everything.

I agree!!!

That would be like parting out a car because it needs an oil change.

It's rare to find them this complete with the big dust chute guards, eye shields, tool rests, etc. That grinder should be a keeper.

Because I have another block that needs these side guards, wheels, and flanges.

We don't get snow here but for $45 I think I would have bought it as well. Maybe make a 8hp battle bot or something with it.

Thats my second snowblower this summer, i buy lawn stuff in the winter and snowblowers all summer prices are much better

Sounds like me. I was selling snowblowers in the winter before storms and selling lawn mowers this spring/summer. Maybe I should collect a few snowblowers now to sell in the winter.

Cant beat it, raking about, you just never know what will turn up. Most of my vintage American tools have come from local sales. Cost me next to nothing but just love the history behind them. Mainly ratchets and pliers, the sort of stuff that you guys probably wouldnt look twice at but over here in England it is quite rare.

A few more saves from the local flea market, there were no garage sales of any tool-related importance.

- Radio operators handbook from 1953, lots of great electronics info, $3
- 2 adjustable wrenches, both 8-inchers, one is Crescent, one Diamond Calk from the 1930s, $3 for the pair
- head bolt wrench, looks like Ford type but only markings are a "12" and an "M" in a circle. ??? $1
- Master lock thingy, missing the key part, might do a custom project with it, FREE
- Frank Mossberg 5/8-inch socket wrench #624 MISSING the head portion of it, a shame I've been looking for one of these for a while and it's not complete when I find it. :( $1
- 2 other wrenches, an early Ford DOE (any info on this one is appreciated, it's not like any of the other Ford-marked wrenches I have, the script is HUGE and the font is all weird), and an Auto-Kit wrench

Nonsense, I can't get enough of old American iron. Large or small. I love that you enjoy it as much as we(I) do and would like to see some pic's some time of your finds.

A few items I rounded up today...

....Gave .75 cents for the battery post tool, the welding tip cleaners, and the Milwaukee recip blade holder.

Gave .50 cents for the antique (?) jar opener (the seller lost the toss ) and he threw in the two screwdrivers for free....total= $1.25

20150708_172639.jpg

Cleaned them up and put a new blade in the Milwaukee handle.....it folds up like a pocket knife then locks like a lockback when open.

Does the jack work 100%? The WS are pretty nice, a bit larger than the more common O boy.

It works, but seems to need some more hydraulic fluid. I plan to try and deal with it shortly.

But frankly, these days whenever I see an old USA made hydraulic floor jack, I tend to try and snag it. They are becoming an "endangered species."

A man-sized lug wrench:

IMG_0859 (Medium).jpg
Its a Ken Tool T95, arms are 27 inches in length, and it weighs 15 lbs. Got it for a buck.

Also picked up this RemLine box for $15. I could not pass it up, even though I don't need it. It will help me organize tools in the barn after a bit of refurbishment.
