A holy grail score today. Found this Stanley #1 in a drawer in the kitchen at an estate sale. Lady running the sale had no idea, just thought it was an old hand plane. Charged me $7 for it. Laughed my *** all the way to the car.

As I was paying, I saw this saw in the corner behind the woman. I asked how much the saw was. The woman said, "its free." I said "really?" She said "It doesn't have a motor." So I said "ok I'll take it!"

Looked it up and it's a Power King 910 12" band saw from the 1940s

Junktastic, that's a cute little plane there. You ****!

Well guys, after taking what, a week off from sales? I went to an estate sale and yard sale today because they were too close to resist!

I walked in an hour after the estate sale opened and not a single person was in the garage but me :rocker: Found some hidden gem Wizard ratchets on a nearly concealed table in the basement :willy_nil

I picked up a vintage Williams ratchet trio between the two sales.

Lots of like new Craftsman and Williams sockets in a box for 5 bucks.

Partial Craftsman socket set and a box of misc sockets, wrenches and other stuff.

Mostly American tools in general. A couple interesting things as well like a brace circle cutter and odd awl or punch tool in the last pciture.

What is this thing? Leather punch or awl? Or a modified something or other?

Has a leather grip and brass knob end.

I believe that is a homemade awl, shank or shiv. Looks like a door knob for the heel.

Mmmmmm.

Wizard.

My favorite.

I think Wizard (Indestro) sockets and ratchets are the strongest ever.

I took a few weeks off from sales because I was saving for a new push lawnmower but was having withdrawals. So I took the lawnmower money and hit the garage and estate sale trail!

1st sale was great, ALL TOOLS and most were USA. Recently retired elevator mechanic. All stuff was reasonable price but most I already had. Stuff I picked up.
Giant Williams 1 7/8" combo wrench, giant Wilton 12" and 10" and Armstrong C-clamps.

Xcelite driver set, Spellman Mfg USA made transfer punch set, Snap-On metric offset box end wrenches, Proto: 2 nice 3/8 ratchets, SAE flex sockets, adjustable wrench and K-D scraper. See the milk crate in the upper left. That was the free box of new hardware plus found 5 packs of Maglite AAA bulbs too.

Second stop, old horse drawn plow for yard art, ammo can, Plomb mini pipe wrench in decent shape, Craftsman nutdrivers and Dunlap screwdriver and folding allen wrench.

3rd stop Simple green, mini Japanese vise and Citgo Utility oil can.

4th stop the first thing I bought was a late 70's Craftsman 4 drawer upper and 5 drawer plus storage compartment. The small rulers and Craftsman punches in the upper left of the picture came out of there, otherwise it was empty. BUT I HAVE NO PICTURES of the top and bottom chest. Why? Because as I was unloading it at my house a guy drove by, saw them and bought them!
In the same picture is a Starrett dial caliper, Small Hole Gage set and a single larger hole gage and a Craftsman mirror. The price was so cheap for all of it my $5 hamburger yesterday cost more!

This Craftsman 3/4" drive set I bought to complete out my set and sell the rest.

At the same sale I picked up this USA made Coleman propane stove.

AND LOW AND BEHOLD THERE WAS A PUSH MOWER THERE! AND it was the exact same model I was looking at, a Honda powered Troy Bilt! It was like new, had been bought a couple of months ago so they could keep the grass mowed at the house while they got it ready for the sale. Started right up, all manuals and parts there. Said they used it about 5 or 6 times and I believe it.

On my last stop I picked up this nice Coca Cola metal crate used for washing the bottles. Doesn't look like it was ever used, came from Oklahoma in the early 80's when the couple bought 3 pallets of them.

My total for the day was about the same as buying the same lawn mower new at Lowes! So I am actually not out of any money right!

There was a big tool sale this morning about 20 mins away. I woke up early to get there before 8 to get a good number for 9am sale. When I pulled into the parking spot only one other person was there but I ended up with number 46. Didn't realize until an hour later when the crowd arrived that they put numbers out the day before. WTF? Never heard of this before.
Fortunately I managed to get in within 10 minutes of opening because about 25 folks who picked numbers earlier never showed.

Estate sale was over priced and I paid too much on a few things but did well overall. This was a non negotiation type of sale where they pull each item from your pile and give you a price. Everything I got ranged from $2-$25 each. Ended up spending $300.

Owner was 80 something year old man, former CBS engineer who was moving to apartment. He had loads of stuff.

That excellent Bluebolt! Like buying the lawnmower and getting everything else free!!

Yup! The mower would have cost me $270 with tax. After selling the Craftsman tool box combo I have less than that in everything including the mower.

I'm not a big yard sale person. I've never had any luck. I stopped by one today and I got this for $5. A Thorson 1/4 SAE set. It's missing a few sockets.

How the heck did you find Block Grinder eye shields ? :yikes:

I don't care how much you paid for them, You ****.

Haha. So I dragged my son to a bunch of sales this morning which were all busts. Then the last stop, I saw a garage full of tools. There happen to be mostly 1970s craftsman power tools. I found a belt sander I needed and a nice Rockwell jig saw. I asked how much and he wanted $20 for the jig saw. I said that was too much. So I started rummaging and I happen to see one shield poking out of the pile on a shelf. I yanked it out and found a second. I thought I would never find just the shields. I looked and asked but there was go bench grinder. I offered $50 for all and they accepted. My weekend is complete

Now to paint a couple, or 3 vises tomorrow. But first the Minions movie!

I've been busy with work and ended up missing Friday sales and the Saturday ones weren't looking too hot so I decided to hit a few garage sales this morning. As I was en route to my first stop, I saw a small sign being put up that simply read "tools". I was the 1st guy in and this pile was my reward. Not pictured is more snap on, a huge box of light bulbs and a craftsman vise. Everything ran me 30.00

SK 1/4" socket set with extra ratchet

Craftsman metric Combo set. Missing a few but I have the fill ins needed

Craftsman BF Japan combo SAE wrenches and 1 long DBE

Snap on Ferret 3/8" breaker bar and 2 wrenches, uni joint and others.

JC Penny ratchet and open end wrenches

Henckles 5 3/4" cleaver, in the original packaging

Small Plomb offset 6pt box end wrench

Stopped at a sale on the way back from fishing. Not a whole lot but found this Dake No.0 for $10. Came with the bending setup which is cool. Just needs a custom handle.

Today, SWMBO and I took a drive up into New Hampshire to pick up our son from Scout camp. I had one planned stop and we free-styled two others (there were a bunch of YS signs out today!)

The first stop, a family YS, yielded some tool goodies for me - total price: $15

1/2" Apco Mossberg torque wrench, 0-175 ft-lbs
2" - 3" Slocum micrometer with case
3/8" Snap-On speeder with owner marks
3/8" Snap-On universal joint
3/8" Challenger by Proto breaker bar w/ 9/16" Challenger by Proto 6-pt socket
1/2" Craftsman V-series breaker bar w/ Powr-Kraft-100 11/16" long socket
Two 1/2" extensions marked R-22 & R-26 Made in USA ALLOY (anyone know OEM on these?)
1/2" Bonney 10" extension
12" steel "belaying pin" (I can't recall the proper name for this thing)
Kobalt drywall saw
Stainless steel surgical clamp (made in Pakistan)
Proto slip joint pliers
Wiss scissors (9" long)
18" Craftsman flat blade screw driver
4 Eclipse-branded DBEs, ranging from 1/2" to 13/16"
1 Barcalo-Buffalo DBE 11/16" - 3/4"
1 Giller DBE, 15/16" - 1" w/ owner marks
Three small wrenches, a Snap-On metric, a Williams Superwrench DOE, and an auto kit wrench to add to my collection.

I passed on a few toolboxes: a Snap-On handheld that was kinda beat up, a hip-top no-name antique, and an '80s Craftsman with mostly same vintage wrenches inside.

The first freestyle YS was a dud - no tools. But the second was another older couple who were selling everything and moving to Florida! (I'm coming to love our recent harsh winter for a whole other reason!) The first thing I bought was this Rubbermaid rack chock full of hand tools. "$2!" the old guy said. "I PULLED IT RIGHT OFF THE WALL." (I think he was a little deef) :) There was a lot of junk on it, but also several neat tools. I bought the lot to get a few of them.
775389261f10d95584a3b3fe50c56868.jpg

He also slapped an old G-E 1/4 HP electric motor on the ground next to him. "IT RUNS GREAT! TEN BUCKS!" I smiled and chatted with him about it before moving on up to the porch. I found more tools and chatted up the lady of the house as I plucked them from the tables. SWMBO adds her picks to my pile and ask how much. The lady does some tallying and says "$11 total." I said "Can you throw in that electric motor and make it an even $20?" She said yes, so into the car it all went.

I won't try to catalog all the stuff from this pick, but will highlight a few.
No 410 Channellock pliers that are also stamped "Champion DeArment - Meadville, PA" ???
L26 Crescent slip-joint pliers
Funny French-made offset sidecutters
Craftsman crowntop rasp
Craftsman regular and oil filter sockets
1/2" 110 Ray ?? speeder

After getting home, I still had time to make it out to a sale in the next town over that JakeMac pointed out to me (I'm starting to owe a lot of my good deals to you, Jake!). It was a moving sale, and while the adult kids were greeting the public, the "old man" was still very much alive and had priced most things for what they were worth. I managed to bundle a few things and get some bargains.

Eastwood Co. powdercoating kit, new-in-box. Bought 14 years ago and never used - $70 (Been wanting one of these for a while!)
Snap-On 1/4" Torqometer torque driver, in case with hex quick change adapter. Also like new - $27 [Snap-On's web site has this retailing for $385!!!]
Two "***********" Craftsman c-clamps, 3" wide and 4" deep - $3

All in all, a pretty good day. Now I just need to get it all cleaned, put away and the flippable stuff listed on E-bay. Picking is definitely more fun.

Glad you were able to make it back for that one. It was a little too far out for me. I had a feeling that was going to be a good site. You found some great stuff.

I like spending other people's money.

Did you see the 8" vise they had listed ? There were no pictures. I figured it would be a chinese import. :dunno:

If you are asking if the work well, yes they do. the current Plierwrench uses the same tech. So those were the ancestor of a most popular tool today.

Thanks Outlaw, Another tool Ill have add to my list.

Stopped at 10 sales today, everyone of them was picked clean yesterday. You retired guys that can get out on Fridays have all the luck! My only score was a box of all kinds of sandpaper for $2. Anyone wanna see a pic? Didnt think so :(

On the bright side, my 5yr old scored 3 unopened Lego sets for $3.
