If sturdy enough (probably is), looks like a good bench drill press stand.

So, been talking to an older lady and her daughter about helping cleaning out the shed... didn't expect more than a box of tools... holy ****, tools everywhere! Then for cleaning out 1/4 of it today, and helping them sell larger items... the stuff I was about to throw cash on down, they said I could have. For free. Besides the near 150lbs of wrenches and sockets and ratchets (nothing too special other than a bunch of williams and SO 3/4" drive sockets), I got this greasy bad boy.

and after a bottle of simple green and some scrubbing...

Down at Buzzards Bay near Cape Cod today with SWMBO to visit our daughter at Mass Maritime. We killed some time in the antique shops on Main Street. Not a great place to find bargains (they had a nice Heritage logo 4" swivel vise, but for $75), however I rifled through the "Rusty Tools for a Dollar" box and found these four brace bits and a Mac 9/16" x 5/8" DBE. The store was having a 25% off sale, so I got them for $3.75.

Picked up Saturday for $15. Belonged to the father of the retired fellow running the garage sale. Said his father was a machinist in Chicago in the 30s-40s, and this was the box he used. Very cool piece of history.
No label, stamp, decal, sticker, or marking of any kind to indicate brand. I've seen this color scheme on Dunlap boxes of that period. Used to own one. The construction was inferior. This one is build like a tank.
The center hasp is original to the box. Plenty of rust. I'd like to repaint the outside and leave the drawer faces alone.

Also noticed the front panel wasn't sliding in all the way. I tipped it back and found some 1962 receipts for, I assume, some of the tools that came with the box. Neat.

+1. If it had the extension tables, you'd have a deal. Without them - not worth it.Pass, buy something better.
I'm digging the middle set of pliers! Any maker marks?
Nice. The company name is kind of generic and thus hard to search for online. You might post your pictures in a standalone thread in the Vintage Tools forum to see if anyone knows anything more.So after a few days in the electrolysis bath and some wd40 and scotch bite I was able to expose some of the makers mark on these very interesting slip joint, sideways, bizarre, pac man tyranysaurus jaw looking pliers. Unfortunately, I cant make out every letter, but here's what I could see:
MECHANICS TOOL CO
RENCH PAT FEB
ILL
Cant make out the patent date, the rest of the "rench," or a city to go along with ILL.
They cleaned up nice though, the teeth are crazy.
Zkling and bluebomber thank you for the quick replies. Which models would you recommend around that price range? And gee, I had not even considered one with extension tables due to limited shop space. I just Google images for table saw extension tables, and there are some big ones custom made out there.

The missing lines say
EAGLE CLAW WRENCH PAT FEB 6-1912
ROCKFORD ILL
(apologies that I originally wrote CHICAGO, misread some history .... I think.... grrr, seems it could be either ROCKFORD or CHICAGO http://www.datamp.org/patents/displayPatent.php?id=15912 )
Does that help?

No probs, I'd be intrigued to know how well those jaw tips work on a coach bolt (assuming that type of bolt has the same name your side of the pond)
I had to look it up. It's a "carriage bolt" here. Learn something new every day ...
Woooohooo - I love it! Now I know to be looking for one if I ever return to sales...er...driving lessons...er...dates with SWMBO.The missing lines say

How much space do you have? Odd thing is... you can actually fit a full size cabinet saw in less space than a 10" contractor table saw due to motor location. Some of the older 8" saws are nice and a little more compact.
Earlier today I saw an ad for a garage sale tomorrow morning that's right around the corner so I emailed them to see if I could come by today and shop. The lady called me this evening while we were unloading the thing in my second pic so I rushed right over and bought a few things. There are Craftsman on the left and Snap On on the right, pittsburg impact adapter and a Williams wrench up top. Prices marked I spent $14 but gave her $15 and thanked her for letting me come by a day early.
When she called, my scrap guy and I were unloading this!
I changed his ujoints the other day and he said I can have this for helping him for FREE, as long as I keep it. He asked that I split the cash if I sell it but I think it will be full of beer soon!! I got the keys and all, working condition!!!![]()
good on you for giving her the extra buck.I guess, space is relative to how much walking room I prefer to have. This is my current setup. The far left wall is nothing but shelves, and on the top, under the latter, are kids power wheels.
The dog, well, don't mind the dog. He's the neighbor's dog which hangs out with me when I'm in the shop.
