I changed his ujoints the other day and he said I can have this for helping him for FREE, as long as I keep it. He asked that I split the cash if I sell it but I think it will be full of beer soon!! I got the keys and all, working condition!!! :willy_nil[/QUOTE]

That one way to keep beer for the buddies and not go broke:beer:

Picked up Saturday for $15. Belonged to the father of the retired fellow running the garage sale. Said his father was a machinist in Chicago in the 30s-40s, and this was the box he used. Very cool piece of history.

I'm really starting to like that box, gonna have to look harder in my area for one like it.

I picked this up today at the Early Bird. Just because I have never seen one before...

A 5/8-inch hex drive open face ratchet. The gear has 12 teeth. Snap-On, Walden and other pioneering US tool makers made 5/8-inch drive ratchets in the 1920's and 30's, but they were square, not hex, and they were usually made of cheap, laminated sheet steel, riveted together, and much smaller, typically found in 6-point socket set kits. This handle is 14 inches long, made of solid carbon or alloy steel, as is the head, and while it's riveted together into the handle, they're some serious rivets.

Also, it's hard to tell in the photos (not a very sunny day here), but it has the remains of a green paint finish, so possibly military application.

Only markings are 1565738, U, 0J13, and the UP and DOWN directions with arrows.

I went to an estate sale this morning looking to pick up a set of large wrenches (up to 2"). Unfortunately, they were all made in Taiwan and India and covered in rust and mud dauber nests. I just couldn't justify the price they were convinced they were worth. All the tools were junk, but they thought they were gold. Even the tools guys behind me walked away empty handed.

Instead, I ended up walking out with a 16" cast iron chiminea for $60.
It was a good thing they had wheels I could borrow, it's heavier than it looks. It will be good for burning twigs and brush without having to get a burn permit every day.

Still, I'm dissapointed that the wrenches didn't work out.

My other option was to build a 36" wide "brick backyard barbecue" [finger quotes] w/chimney stack. But when I checked into it, I was told by the town that I would need a building permit for it. I was also told that any shed over 100sq/ft was considered a garage and needed permits and built to code. Screw that. I bought two storage tents and a dog instead.

Stopped at a few today. Mostly junk or overpriced.

I managed to get a nice 19" led tv for $20 with wall mount. I was just talking about putting one in the kitchen.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1444411776.819876.jpg

Then I got this Stanley square and Ajax mfg folding rule for $1.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1444411968.184706.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1444411975.568988.jpg

I kind of wanted this craftsman table saw but I didn't want to spend the cash on it.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1444412016.375808.jpg
And this Parker 23x was too expensive at $125.

I picked up a few items at a garage sale this morning.
I felt kind of bad for the old guy, who has become so disabled that he can no longer get out in the garage and work. Apparently he built hot rods up until about ten years ago, and since then his stuff has been just collecting dust.
His wife was telling me that the price of his prescriptions made them decide to sell off all his tools and car parts to raise money.

Here is what I brought home:
i-jcZh6L9-L.jpg

Starrett dial indicator set in box - appears unused, and just the outside of the case is worn from age, and a couple of the black steel parts have some surface rust that will clean up well. It only reads in .001", but there are plenty of times when that is good enough:
i-DCfSF6p-L.jpg

i-5pq5ZJX-L.jpg

A 1/2" Snap-On 24" breaker bar.
A Brown & Sharpe 6" dial caliper:
i-z3mTwvZ-L.jpg

Two genuine Vise-Grip welding clamps:
i-HXS4pzw-L.jpg

And a vintage Snap-On 3/8" ratchet.

I gave her $70 for all of it, although I am sure I could have given her half of that and she would have been ok with it. I would have felt bad though.

Went to a moving sales this morning and they said everything goes. They had this Arctic Cat 500 Quad in the field and I asked the price. She said $200. (not a typo). I know nothing about quads but it looks to be in great shape. She said it was used 3 years ago and then been sitting ever since. The odometer (or is it an hour meter) says 245. Anyone know of a good forum and online manual source for these? I know absolutely nothing about these.

Next score was a 6' 3 pt Frontier scraper blade for $150

A set of fork lift teeth that attach to a tractor bucket $80:

A pile of Stihl chainsaws, Echo "cordless" drill, Lewis Chainsaw winch + Misc $75:

Like always ,got the stuff from gumtree ,an small Rota toolbox with some nice tools (but a bit annoyed because I asked the seller about another toolbox that was filled with more interesting stuff but when got there he told he sold it a couple of days before)
Well what I got, plastic face mallet ,some good quality files ,a 7R vise grip, some drill bits ,four corkscrew looking tools (anybody knows what are they for?),a Record pipe wrench, little Record hacksaw ,incomplete sidcrhome imperial socket set ,short pin set and old Ridgid pipe cutter.
Most important were the three engineer squares been after one for a while ,small and big ones are Moore and Wright the middle one has no marks and build is different.

If they were gun related, I would say that they were Bore Worms, for pulling stuck musket balls out of a gun barrel. They may serve a similar purpose for some other application. :dunno:

Those are packing tools. They're for pulling out the stem packing that's around the stem of big gate valves when they're being repacked.

itll be somewhere on the frame, most of the four wheelers ive had, have had it under the front wheel well on the left side if your standing behind it. never had a arctic cat so no clue on where itll be, and if theres a lot of dirt on the frame try to knock if off as it could be hidden in all the dirt. i got a 2004 kodiak from my sister bf that hadn't been running in over 5 years, and it was garage kept so all it needed was a bath in a sonic part cleaner for the carb. with how good it looks i doubt ull have to do any major work on it

This link should get you close, it is for 2002 model year Cat atvs. Before you even start it, I'd pull the carb, airbox, and exhaust and give all 3 a good cleaning.

I'd also change all filters and fluids, and check the CV boots on the axles.

Edit: Judging by the graphics, I'd say yours is a 2001.

Lugnutz, I think that ratchet is more recent than you think, and is for raising/lowering a spare tire on a light truck.

^^^You're right. I found the owners manual in a slot under the seat and it's a 2001. Thanks for the service manual link. I'm sure it's 99% relevant. Now the fun begins. I want to clean it up and then go thru it with a fine tooth comb.

For an ATV is this considered high, low or average mileage? I'm just trying to get a feel.

I had 4 planned stops today. Each in a different town, as usual. The 2 TOO's were a bust as well. Very slim pickings out there today. I had to pass on a never used Greenlee Knockout kit in plastic case. The price was reasonable ($75), but still higher than I wanted to pay for something I'd probably only use once. If ever. I already have one of the leather wrapped sets if I need it.

In the end, I only ended up coming home with a 60's Craftsman (=V=) chain wrench w/pat't #2944459 (issued 1960) for $3.

Some items picked up at the monthly auction last night.
1st was an old 24" Starrett vernier caliper in the original solid oak case.
Starret 1.jpg

No batteries needed here. Manual operation only with fine adjustment.
Starret 2.jpg

Said to be former Army Corp of Engineers tool and says " US Govt Property" on the back side of the head. $12.50
Starret 3.jpg

Then a lot with two nice leather holsters, a 10 x 50 pair of binoculars and a couple English style stirrups. $10
Holster Group.jpg

This very cool all metal battery operated 1970 Mustang toy. Two D batteries and it still works. Looks like made in Japan before plastic toys took over. $20
Mustang Model.jpg

And finally this mystery red tool case. Brand new in the box but never used and no markings on the box or the case itself. Metal handle and hasp. Designed to open like a book standing up and has features for holding round tools in one door? Also separate sections and hooks to hang items from. No idea what this was used for so if anyone recognizes it let me know. $12.50
