Lugz, this would get my nomination for PoY, for the ephemera alone. But, when magnified by 3/5 of a jeep wrench set (including a 723, I think!!!!), a Plvmb 5 band socket and the 1/4" boxes, the ****-o-Meter has to come out....WELL done!

[WELL done!
Thanks. It was definitely a 'sometimes when you least expect it' find. I had seen two really cool things (a huge Navy survival knife and a leather interwar/WWII U.S. rifle scabbard, perfect for a jeep) that were too costly for me, and I had not run into the vise guy I was hoping to run into from last week. I was on my way out. This liquidator's stuff looked like **** this week and then I spotted an old fiber suitcase and decided to look inside (which is where all the paper was)! On the ground next to it was a 1951 jerry can with the donkey **** and the sprayer and in another box a bunch of old tools. The guy wanted $10 for the can AND the spout. I felt so bad I left the can behind, told him to re-sell it, and I showed him where they were dated, and also how to identify WWII spouts vs postwar. HAHA. Karma helps! Everything was blocked by a gurney and a bunch of junk from the other side where I had come from.

I may have spoken too quickly...will let Lugz clarify, as I can't tell for sure from the pic posted.
It's a 25, 27C, and 731-A. But I have a 723, a 28-S and a 33-C, so I can make a Jeep set or a GMTK set with these.

Smoke Which 40's catalog on the sprayer? While they have some in power tools the ones I looked at are not the housing type Lugz is? :dunno:

I found it. Nothing was coming up searching the Long C thread on "Sprayer" but I found it searching on "Compressor." (You called it a "compressor spray painter.") Page 37/Post #727. Mine is different. Yours looks bigger, with bigger capacity. I see similar sprayers in a few catalogs (48, 52, and 54), but, like Outlaw said, I can't find mine.

Your motor was dated "50", any kind of date code on the model tag? To me that could be immediate prewar. Its the oldest looking 1 i seen. great find 2 me.

I did actually find stuff I wanted. Blue Grass hammer with the original handle. Old Blackhawk Torque Wrench. Two Bell System drivers. True Temper axe head with perfect blade. The large screwdriver is a PyraChrome. The Rigid pipe wrench still has the remains of the label on it. Random collection of sockets with a Bonney T28 and a Palm-Grip ratchet. The Southwest Bell clipboard is perfect minus having a rivet replaced.

Thanks. EDIT: I saw it. SpeedInLemon's on page 2, post #23. But he didn't have any info on date or catalog page number.

You know when you find stuff you don't collect but it follows you home?
What happened to the honing down on a few brands?!
:lol_hitti

...a Palm-Grip ratchet.
Who makes that one?

Yeah, we were talking on the phone just last week and it was one of those obligatory mutual positive reinforcement talks between buddies to stave off an actual intervention, but we both knew it was just empty promises.

Over the course of any given week, I stop by a Restore if there is one close to where I will be. 2/3 the time nothing comes of it, but sometimes you get lucky (it also helps to know which stores are any good) This is what I found over the last weeks stops:

Clevland Twist Drill index (fractional), APEX socket spinner, two Stanley Defiance chisles, and a cadmium Cornwell DBE. $10. Maybe.
And todays estate sale finds:

First stop netted three socket boxes; Master Mechanic (a Danaher company) but the sockets are more roached than I thought, a Wright box full of '20 Ray, Hinsdale and Blackhawk (plus misc.) and a partial SK Wayne. Second stop was a bust and third was very far but promising. Well, there were good tools (Proto) but they wanted top doller. So I just got the Proto driver, cutting fluid, Armstrong pin wrench, and two obstruction wrenches (X in a circle, but can't remember who that is). So I went back to the first to see what I could dig up. Found a Fleet breaker, Craftsman heritage dog-bone, Thosen metric (that I actually needed), Herbrand pliers, an Indestro ratchet, and misc. sockets. $28 for everything.

I shot from the hip on that [emoji849][emoji51] turns out the motor is dated 1950... said sprayer is being discussed on the long c thread now. My guess was close but slightly early

You seem to have adjusted to life in Texas. It seems to me that I’ve seen you collect a few Craftsman tools in the past. What’s up with collecting S-K?

The X in a circle is actually a stylized DC that Duro and Indestro used during WW2. Nice drill index. Looks familiar.

I had to get away from Craftsman. Unfortunately these prices were to good to leave behind.

I haven’t started collecting SK. I traded for some newer stuff to complete some sets for my oldest son and my son-in-law.

Welcome to February. One click along the duohex, or what-have-you. Among the 507 posts of January were three that garnered multiple “*****”:
Rickster got 2 ***** from his stink-eye-inducing massive haul in post71,
Youinreverse got 3 ***** from post355 of Snappy tools, and most recently,
Private Lugnutz got 3 ***** from post474 of WWII mechanic/scholar tools & ephemera.
Eleven others received single *****, including consti2tion, who earned a notable nod from our founder, jeffmoss26.
Congratulations to all, and may the picking proceed unabated!

Decent findings (Lugz 2020_07) at the flea market this morning.

attachment.php

A stamped steel DOE for the Mossberg collection.

The double-offset double box end light duty wrench was made by Bonney in, I think, 1944. The other markings have my cobwebs a little befuddled right now. More on that in the Bonney thread.

The bait or stabbing knife was an instant buy as soon as I picked it up. I was expecting an aluminum or perhaps stainless steel handle, but it's lead. Called a "MARVEL" by Armstrong-Blum Mfg Co, it is marvelous.

The ball-pein hammer is a 16-oz Blue-Point. Postwar, but it may join the its 32- and a 4-oz Blue-Point brethren in my GMTK, as a stand-in for the 16-oz that was included in the very early (1938-1942) GMTK specs. I always like me some brand-matching wherever possible.

The heirloom toy soldiers - and one airman - are all genuine AUB-RUBR (Auburn Rubber, Auburn, Indiana). In better condition, these would fetch good bucks, but I like them anyway. Even as "casualties".

The vintage Detroit pin cracked me up (no offense Detroiters or Michiganers!), and I grabbed the BMW lapel pin for Beemer.

EDIT: Forgot the tiny Norton Abrasives polishing stone.
