So here's a question: It seems extra dead lately, (weather yesterday didn't help) but how is it for others?

Plenty of action here (MidAm) but I have no time for sales this weekend. Too much action last wkend!:bounce:

...Also bought three Snap On metric wrench sets. Line wrenches, flank drive combos, and stubbies. One combo is a USA Blue Point, and a couple of the stubs are Matco and Mac. It was a fair enough deal for the three. I made the seller an offer $200 less than his combined asking price, and he accepted!

3bay--I just want to get clarification.

Did you mean you offered him $200, which was less than his combined asking price?
(Asking Price - $X = $200)

Or did you really offer him $200 less than his combined asking price? (Asking Price - $200 = $Y)

Told me 125 each set. There seemed to be no interest at his booth as he wasn't a regular tool seller, more so misc and household. I came back around and offered 175 and he accepted without much of a second thought. Kind of caught me by surprise. I expected a counter offer. I think I got lucky and none of the regular tool vendors checked out his spot or they would have been gone already for sure.

Depending on the size of those sets, and the condition of the tools, you either got a great deal or a “you ****” deal. Any pics?

Lately I’ve picked up some odds and ends late model snappy wrenches and sockets. (No sets) metric and SAE. I’m tempted to put them all together in a flat rate box for an eBay listing but I realize that there is more money to be made selling individual pieces. Advice?

D42’s heritage box is the real vintage deal, not the reissue... those are easy to spot. Here are some pictures of one recently on eBay. Note the logo placement and lack of bead rolled details on the front face

You're right, usually the oversize badge is a giveaway. But his was so clean it's just surprising that one exists in that condition! He got a very nice example that's for sure!

I responded to a Facebook Marketplace ad on Saturday for a Matco tool box with tools. I didn't need another tool box but figured it was worth the 25 minute trip. As I get there, she tells me her uncle had a heart attack and needs money for hospital bills. He is a retired bus mechanic with the local school district. She tells me to fill up the box and take anything else I want for no extra money because she has to sell the house and needs everything gone. I insisted on giving her more and after much prying, she took more money. The Matco MB-555 box (friction slide) filled with CMAN -V-, and other miscellaneous tools, The small plastic MAC box which had some Taiwan sets (new) and mixed CMAN -V- and some other USA brands, a gray metal handheld box with Snap on, MAC, Matco, CMAN -V-, the MAC tools top box filled with misc. USA brands, Snap On CT 30 3/8" battery impact (she threw this in for free because we didn't know if it worked. I charged the batteries and they work), the red CMAN side cabinet, the Tech Tire cabinet looks almost brand new, and the Ideal hose clamp display. I did an initial search of what was in the boxes and found some good stuff but have to continue to go through. Most of this will be for sale to support my tool habit as I don't need it but I couldn't pass it up.My buddy came along with me to take a peek. He did really well as he could only stay a few minutes and bought two cardboard boxes sight unseen for $100. He called me the next day and told me they were loaded with Matco, Snap On etc. I'm almost embarrased at what I paid for all of this but she wouldn't take more money-all in for $550

Been away a while, but still pick when work allows. Don’t have the time to get out to sales as much as I’d like, so leaning more to online sellers and auctions.

Lucked out in this great collection of Italy-made Beta tools. A few still had price stickers in lire, which dates them to the 1990s, probably.

Chest needs strip and paint but drawers work well and it’s heavy duty. Looking forward to putting the t-handles to work and checking out the ratchets.

All told nearly 90 pieces from Beta and another 30-40 useable pieces, including a Greenlee flexible drill bit kit.

All in was $87.

Not a lot to look at this week end.
Found a no name clamp on vise of decent size, a Bonney 1/2 x 9/26 DBE and some sanding belts.
The prize is a brass / bronze (?) ruler. Per the PO, a "blacksmith ruler"!!

Nothing spectacular this weekend. Thought I got two boxes of Chicago bolts or Binding posts, depending on where you grew up, but no, one box was security bolts. First time I have found a decent drill display organizer in fractional, almost all I have a numbered.

Anyone know what the chisel looking thing may have been intended for? Looks like lawn mower blade material.

Facebook Marketplace: Cool little pocket oiler, assorted spring clamps, and two 3/8" hex drive sets, one Indestro PeeWee (more pics HERE) and the other just marked JAPAN.

The set of four spring clamps were marked
No. 1 Hargrave Spring Clamp (on one handle) and
THE CINCINNATI TOOL CO. U.S.A. (on the other)

The smallest clamp seems unusual, overlooked it at first but is marked well. I can't really figure out what the middle marking say "RF. LIFE" or RELIEF at the top and ESTERBROOK or "EST ERBROOK" down the middle?

and it says BALL BEARINGS MADE IN THE U.S.A, ball bearing clip?

$20

Esterbrook was a manufacturer of fountain pens...so maybe something stationery-related.

Does the oiler pump using that little flange? Its cool looking.

Yes, the lip, right before the needle end. Took me a minute to figure out that it only works pointing down, it just opens a valve alowing a drop of oil to form on the tip.

I was going to fill it with 3-In-One Oil but noticed there is some gummy grime inside so I've filled it up with WD-40 to soak. Actually might be useful to use it with WD-40 anyway.

As a "Pocket Oiler" I'm surprised it doesn't have a clip for a shirt pocket, I guess it was for pants pockets or a pocket with a flap. Other detail is that it is good stainless steel, won't stick to a magnet at all.

SCORE!!!!Mac 1/4 tool-set

On my way home today I was looking at marketplace hunting for good tools and I found this ad where a gentleman was selling his Mac tool-set SMM446BR
1/4 inch drive 44 piece set for 45$ !!! I immediately go there and scoop it up; as it turned out it is missing some socket that he known he has somewhere but I'm okay with that.
Here are the pictures before and after sorting out Mac from other brands and after cleaning the sockets.

Damon, is the gasket on the screw on cap good?

I'd use that as a Neatsfoot oil dispenser! It would fit the oiler holes in the Coleman pumps perfectly!

BHT - that's a suckworthy score!

Thanks! The little rubber donut seems to be fine and just keeps the oil from leaking out when you aren't using it.

Picture of the inside valve mechanism, such as it is.

Damon,
I live in Fort Campbell, Clarksville; familiar with the area?

Nice to meet you, Not familiar, although I know where it is, years ago used to spend some time on the Kentucky river up that way. People don't realize how wide TN is, you are about 200 miles from me and only halfway across the state.

I was worried I missed that MAC set on the local Marketplace. LOL

What is the name on that? I think it is an 1890's bicycle oiler. Would have been carried in a toolbag

Still here. New job has me using tools so much I can't read or write about them like I used to. :)
I have a few Beta, USAG, and Facom pieces in my box, but haven't ever come across this much in one place. I can only imagine what pieces were lost in the shed before the sale.
Hope you did well at my sale! There was a lot there. Unfortunately I chose a company that had always done well by me, but was on its way to shutting down. So it wasn't the greatest sale for buyer or seller. I donated a bunch of tools and that wall of high density drawers to the local rowing club.
At least a lot of tools found a new home.

Well good to see you on here.

I know I talked to you out front that morning as you left, i think you talked about moving west? Didn't know you were from the site until long after. While looking through old GS threads one day I put 2+2 together after seeing you had posted several items that I picked out at that sale, plus your location was Buffalo. I don't remember what tools, but funny how they may have been posted twice in GS threads.

I do have your Koken 3/4 metric set and a bunch of old ratchets. I'll admit that was one of the best sales in recent memory, a lot of stuff I enjoy. We must have a similar interest in tools!

I still have nightmares about several tools I wish I'd bought but didn't, and I was there 2 days! :lol_hitti

The sale staff was worn the F@#% out by all the tools and all the customers from what I remember. I dealt with that crew many a time over the years, and that was a busy one. If old Bob W. who used to price the tools was still alive, he'd have probably had a blast!

I do recall cashing out a purchase at the desk out back, when the boss man himself came out there enraged. He yelled out in front of everyone that if anyone gets caught changing a price he was going to call the cops. Said they caught it happening something like 7 times!

Anyhow, it felt strange when I learned it was a GS thread participant's sale. Glad to see you and hope all is well!

After cleaning up the two boxes I posted here
https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8378484&postcount=1165

There are just a couple of interesting things (Ford Oil Can and Vietnam foot powder), some kind of file sharpener, and a wrench I can't identify.

The can of footpowder still has powder, I remember using this kind of powder in the Boy Scouts in the 60's, along with military bottles of pure liquid Deet for mosquito control.

The oil can is in pretty good shape, I was looking at the oil can thread https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=266430 and hope this doesn't lead me to out of control oil can collecting!

How is that sharpener tool used?

Who can identify the rusty wrench? (I know someone can) This is it's condition after degreasing, brushing, washing, soaking in Evaporust for two days and brushing again.

When I lightly brushed it just now it still had rust coming off, so it's back in some fresh Evaporust, it looks like it might have been painted black at one time. I can't read any of the lettering, but looking at the pictures I noticed the PAT PENDING stamp inside the jaws for the first time.

Superior Wrench Company, made in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. That is a VERY NICE find! I have never seen one in the wild. Please post it in my 'Oddfellows' thread (for all atypical non-screw/non-worm drive adjusting wrenches), linked here.

Ha, figured you would be the someone! Thanks, now I can find it on Alloy-Artifacts, actually tried to use it thinking it must be some kind of self adjusting wrench but couldn't get it to tighten on anything. Must not know the technique.

When I comes out of the Evaporust I'll post it over on the Oddfellows.

.

That is part of a chainsaw sharpening tool. Put a round file in it, align the angle appropriately to your bar, and go wild. Equal strokes on each tooth, flip it over to do the other side.

It was a lot to sell, and in hindsight there was a better way and a better vendor, but I'm glad that at least some of the tools found a good home. That Koken set was awesome! I did keep nearly all the snapon and a few other good sets that I now use daily.

I briefly moved downtown then this new job popped up, one I'd waited 30 years for, so I'm back swinging wrenches and cursing at least once a week about something I sold.

I don't have near as much space for tools, and nothing like the time to find them, so nice little scores like this Beta set really scratch the itch.

Cheers!

My neighbor gave me this Earthwise, Model PW18004FS Electric Pressure Washer and Liquid Cleaner today for 'FREE' along with the manual. He used it one time last summer.

He also gave me some nice large pieces of smooth both sides plywood, which I'll use for shelving.

I like getting 'FREE' stuff.

Another flea market 'small haul', relatively speaking, for my 18th (Lugz 2020_18) of the year.

No clue who made the wrenches, but they were dirt (or shall I say rust) cheap, and I just had to have them. As some of you know, I have a bunch of fixed socket wrenches in various styles from Walden and Mossberg, and a few Blackhawk. Also Braunsdorf-Mueller. These aren't any of those. Hexagonal shanks, hex openings. From approx. 1/4" to 1" plus. Hopefully in order. I didn't fuss with them too much (if I had my choice between COVID-19 and Lockjaw, I would take my chance with COVID-19 any day!) All I can see s "W.P.G." on a few of them (could be owners marks, but they are fairly uniform, and in the same place on each wrench) and I think they may be numbered! They're friggin awesome, whoever made them.

No clue on the socket box, either, but I try to never pass up a socket box, even though this one is clearly more modern than my collecting niche. I have to admit I kind of like the faux wood grain look! I probably have something I can put in it. A partial set or orphans. Anybody recognize it?
