Funny how the universe works.

Right after congratulating jrg on his Wilton score two hours ago, I flipped over to Facebook Marketplace for a quick scan of the Tools category before I returned to working on the Impala. I do this all the time, and rarely find anything that gets my attention.

Today must be a rare day. I swiped down by one page, and see this thumbnailed ad:

4e994ba96034c7d83b3cf2431e2f4aec.jpg

The ad was 4 minutes old. Having just seen jrg's find, I knew exactly what I was looking at. I jumped on Messenger, made contact with the seller and beat feet over there.

It's a Wilton 9400 bullet with the 4" jaws and swivel base. The jaw screw turns smoothly and the jaws and anvil pad are crusty but not abused--not bad for a vise made in 1957! I gladly paid their asking price of $37.

There's a sticker that was under a thin layer of paint that I can't quite make out. If no one here recognizes it, I'll repost over on the mega vise thread.

EDIT: Nevermind, got it! It's what's left of the Five Year Warranty sticker from Wilton.

Congrats sir, and may I say you also ****!!

Hit a little shop called Old School Flea market in Mt. Gilead, Ohio. Pulled these from the $1 a wrench bucket and an old flat craftsman screwdriver.

Those are some amazing dollar finds. The craftsman saltus wrenches are hard to come by and snappy for a buck can't beat that.

You know, I thought I was doing pretty good for my $10 buy, but I’ll just lower my hand and slide off to a corner.

Couple of folding, non adjustable saw horses, some Desco tiny nut drivers, Starka hemostats, drill & bits, Diamond caulk pliers, Williams engineer wrench, Blackhawk drag link, Williams sliding tee handle, unknown hatchet head, screwdriver and caliper.

Smoke finally cleared enough in Spokane, WA to go out to a few sales today. Picked up a ratcheting tap handle set and taps marked Chicago Specialty for $1, slanted desktop for $10, and an Aurora Derby horse race set for $6. The Lufkin 3851 boxwood ruler was $16, Tootsietoy was $2 and the Midgetoy Buck Rogers ship was $8. The Erector set was $30.10097a51bd9679c23f2e744f462362e5.jpg5c0d62144945697de8eb24a82b11fa98.jpg50d9de3fdce242a28a14d770d8f9f9eb.jpg103d563457c4eb6cdf4b37d6a30fb6e1.jpgfa8eeaaf77b20c6f336bb99c95ead5c8.jpg62d406fc8f42a2265106178723d39cee.jpgc24552e743e3b572429aff5638a093ff.jpg

And the jaw drop win of the day a box full of adjustables for $5! Including 2 4"ers tiger and ridgid. Quite a few USA ones.

Looking for a Round Beam Plomb 1068 Double Box End Wrench

Big haul R and a deserving "you ****" on the adjustables for sure. I do like the ones that look like a 6 point. Would you call that a 4 point?

Seems like the Wilton's are raining down the past week. $37 for a wilton bullet of any size.... "you ****". Paid $40 for mine last weekend 1994 NOS.

I couldn't pass up the dumpster diving casters a few days back (post 4291) - figured I'd use them eventually for something. Then it hit me - my-oops, OUR--table saw has been a pain forever because it was mounted on a couple of doubled 2x4's. The wood shop is small, so it must be moved a few feet to allow for large stock. A pain dragging it around. The answer, of course!! I had to fab up some brackets, but I had everything I needed right here. Now it moves easily, the brakes keep it still in use, and it's now easy to sweep under!

R, you really do find some Tiger stuff up there. I think you said that a long time ago.

JV, that’s a cool Chicago Specialty tap set. Can't believe you got any Aurora product for 6 bucks. I’ve been hanging on to an old slot car set that I received when I was very little. Almost sold it, but the condition just isn’t there.

Whew... where to begin. 3 sale Fri/Sat for me. 1 professional estate sale, 1 private invitation pre estate sale, 1 return to, 3rd time's a charm, estate sale.....

I usually post in order I hit the sales. I put my name on the list at the pro estate sale first, then went to the private invitation, then in the afternoon back to the pro estate sale.

So I stepped first into the private invitation. This is where I got the stanley/craftsman hand planes and Disston/Atkins hand saws. They told me then I'd get first dips at their dad's place(machinist). Have you ever seen....maybe a 300sqft waist high train city in the mountains? Oh boy was it elaborate. Museum worthy. I included some pics below.

The machinist shop was much smaller than the train city. Maybe 150 sqft. Complete with a proper lathe, vise, and drill press. Not ready to sell them yet but the lathe is a "South Bend Precision Lathe Model C9-10JR". The vise an old 4.5" Columbian. I see these lathe's selling from 150 to 1500...lol. Maybe 300-800 the norm. How would you value it?

What did I walk away with? Not much. A couple pony pipe clamps, couple ball peen hammers, a small hand saw, sharpening stone, and a cotter pin assortment for $30. Wasn't sure a good price point for the pony clamps. Paid $5 each. Felt better when the pro estate sell I went to had rusty ones for $10 each. Maybe the best buy was the small bonney ball peen for $3 :)

Well you guys are a horrible influence and I say keep it up[emoji23] I made an offensive offer on that plomb top chest in Vancouver and the seller countered at $45 down from $60... I couldn’t say no[emoji849][emoji849][emoji6]. The chest has been spray bombed outside and on the drawer faces but bottoms and the inside of the drawers looks good. The drawers are really straight and I figured if needed I could use it for parts. I have seen the small side drawers sell for more than this on eBay. A couple of the hinges have been rewelded or replaced but for the price I am not complaining . Looks like the stickers got sprayed right over. For now it sits on the shelf in my garage waiting a turn at getting that paint off

I also picked up this plomb carry tote off Facebook market place last week for $30 shipped . Luckily the seller was willing to ship once she found out I was a collector. It needs some work and I have since cleaned up most of the rust. It is getting a full restoration right now and is almost all bare metal right now. You might wonder why I am bothering with this but they are not very common.

That’s awesome bwell. Talk about time spent on a hobby.

Agreed. Quite the sight. All hand made/painted by the owner. He also had huge drawers (4'+ wide) full of train cars. Others full of parts. Serious business!!!

Another story I was told. The home needed the electric panel upgraded. It was located on the other side of the tracks. maybe a 2ft wide section in front of the panel. Close enough to flip switches but not legal..... Electrician said the owner had to cut the tracks. Can you imagine!?! All the power lines alone that must be running around. Not to mention the impressive time and quality of the work. This is after the owner/creator passed and it was the owner's friend and daughter with the electrician. They started talking about how they could accomplish the electrician's demand. All the steps to cut it up and put it back together with minimal damage. Then the electrician stopped them, said we'll work something out. They built a table over the tracks for the electrician to lay down on and upgrade the panel while laying on his back. Took the electrician a few hours to finish the upgrade. Track remains in tact. Whew. Lucky the electrician was taken back by the creation.

Yes tiger stuff is pretty common especially wrenches. I have yet to snag a ratchet but all in due time.

Wow. You guys really **** on those two Wilton scores. I'm almost embarrassed to say I had to pay about half of what it's worth for this one, and about a third for the Athol. The little one came in a lot, and was basically free. $25 on the weird looking homeowner's type. 4 good Toyo snow tires on rims $20PXL_20200918_181513108.jpegPXL_20200918_181505874.jpegPXL_20200919_144106018.jpegPXL_20200918_181650842.jpgPXL_20200918_182211279.jpgPXL_20200918_153033215.jpgPXL_20200919_184700334.jpg

I'd like to find one of those "Weird Homeowners type" vises for my daughter. - Jewelry maker. belt sand the top smooth and make some jaw caps for the delicate stuff...

I think those Toyo's are the same as the one's on my Samurai. Nice and quiet, but I now want the same tires as I put on the van - even quieter! (since the Toyos are about done...)

A big old "You ****!" to everyone that picked up a cheap Wilton this weekend.

Also a big "'You ****!" for those pearl blue screwdrivers. I'd flip my lid if I found a set of those in the wild for that cheap. :)

Just got this from a guy last night. Turns out he had bought a toolbox from a neighbor, and just wanted the box, so was selling the contents to make a bit of extra cash. Started with the "What are you interested in", then "Make an offer", so I threw out a low bid to just test. Told him 5 for the adjustable, 3 for the ratchet, 1 for the CM metric hex pouch, and .50 per hex bit. First email totalled 12.50, and I said I may be interested in more sockets and wrenches, depending (.50/socket, 1per wrench). He was fine with the pricing, so I made a 40min trip on a hunch and some bad pictures. Ended up spending $50, left behind some 8-12" adjustables, and a couple larger Ridgid pipe wrenches (already have multiples of each). Guy was happy to see it leave, and happy for the cash. Figure I can sell 1-2 of the higher priced items and cover my $$$.

Beach three drawer and a magnifying lamp. Not quite the box I thought it was, but a nice, smaller, Canadian made piece.

Still considering what I'll put in this one, suggestions are always welcome! 76fe485ef9f349bc431bf6a96d6b7531.jpg063ec5b5ca796293a260ab2195003054.jpg5fa11b2d29304ec71eca4b81f1088d7d.jpga974cdeb29a5c80332584419729fb6c6.jpg

Got to sorting and cleaning the tools from the shed haul. Everthing soaked and scrubbed except the container of fishing lures, saved for another day.

Going to take be few posts. A lot to describe, so I took a bunch of pics.

If you’re curious what the guy ended up charging for everything and you really want to know, it was the same cost as viewing the new Disney Mulan.
