Wow, nice score!

I went shopping for a new Milwaukee set the other day. Found a screaming deal, but they were out of stock. One nearby store supposedly had 2 left (per the HD computer/phone, not the website).

Went to the other store, they showed 3 in stock with "No Home" for a location. Searched high and low, couldn't find them. The guys working there figure they were stolen, and told me some scary stories about the brazen recent thefts occurring there...

Mike

My favorite: I walked in as they were emptying a vanity box in front of the CS desk. They pulled out a couple grand worth of faucets and tools. Some guy walked around the HD, filling the empty box with goodies, scanned/paid for the “vanity”, and ran when confronted. Turns out, they were watching him on camera the entire time. :lol_hitti

I am not promoting going out just to hunt these deals, but I found these at my store recently and figured I would share in case u r in there shopping for something actually necessary.

41" tool chest/cabinet combo for $449 sku 1001679384

And a 24" empire level for $8.83 sku 1002968514

The level was just on their clearance shelf (I bought it) and the tool chest was with their other boxes at the front of the store.

Does the box still show full price on the website? I just moved, my tools are still packed up. I've been waiting for a local store that's still swollen w/ Christmas tool boxes to mark them down.

All the boxes are still full price on the website for that store here, if that's the case for your local store as well I'll go and look for a deal.

States and municipalities still need money... That which is lost in tax revenue has to be made up in strong-arm revenue!

Not around here. I don't think you can get pulled over if you wanted to. I was cruising w/ traffic on the interstate a week ago. Someone blew passed me, I looked down to see my speed. My group of traffic was cruising at 90, the car that passed had to be 110+.

I backed off to a more reasonable 70 in a 65. The 90 mph group passed a patrol car in the median watching traffic. The officer didn't go after any of them.

FB Marketplace around here seems to be driving/enabling the thefts. Plenty of new in box Milwaukee sets. Many coming out of pawn shops.

I also saw an ad asking for specific sets promising $300 and "no questions asked." Hopefully, that's a police department sting, but I doubt it.

Now is probably the worst time to even attempt such a thing since the stores are less busy. When I worked retail in college these schemes were frequent. They used to toss stuff over the lawn and garden fences then try and grab it outside before security caught them.

I saw a report on TV, backed up by what this employee said: The thieves are so brazen, they don't even try to hide what they're doing anymore. They just take what they want, and walk out the front door, knowing no one will stop them. For the safety of the employees (and customers), they are trained to follow at a distance and try to get a license plate for the police.

The TV report said that the police have busted several pawn shops loaded to the gills with brand new power tools, and said that the pawn shops are giving "shopping lists" to the thieves for popular items.

I think I saw this on TV around Christmas time last year (1999).

Of course, we all pay for this in the form of higher prices.

IIRC, those toolboxes get marked down during their Memorial Day sale. That’s coming up soon if they still do it this year.

I didn't want to believe it, either. I just know what I saw on TV, and what this one employee told me.

The TV story included footage of people walking out of places like HD and WM, with carts overloaded with expensive items. In some cases, employees were just following them, in others, complete melees broke out when employees (or other customers) tried to intervene, as some of these thugs worked in teams.

The report indicated that senior management of these companies are leaning towards let them go for the safety of employees and customers. Makes sense to me, can you imagine the payout if employees and bystanders get beaten or shot to (or near) death over a grand or two of merchandise?

Sounds like maybe some stores have more aggressive policies. Either way, I'm glad that's not my job.

BTW, at the store I visited the other day (not my normal HD location), they'd installed locking cage doors in front of the more expensive sets. At least they're trying to make it a little harder.

Not all stores have a LPO. Even if they do home depot policy forbids employees other than LPOs from pursuing a thief, accusing someone of stealing, etc. Only under the direction of one can the thief be pursued/apprehended. Their training was to basically keep asking the person if they need help, let them know that you are present and see them.

The cost to home depot of a lawsuit from an employee/customer getting hurt or even from someone falsely accusing a customer of theft is far more than a cart full of power tools. They know what stores have the highest loss and put their LPOs at those locations, plus in some cases they intentionally let people get away to help the police bust theft rings

Went to the last two stores that were supposed to have these sets today. Should have been 5 sets between the two stores, no where to be found.

The set is a 3-tool Milwaukee M18 Fuel setup, SKU #1003342871. The normal price is $549, the clearance price was $399. This would be my first Fuel tools, so I was willing to chase the sale.

At the first store (in an upper middle class town), an employee (sounded like he was some sort of department manager) reiterated that they don't chase product out the door. He said they lose at least a thousand dollars a day. He showed me two Milwaukee boxes that they found cut open and empty earlier today (and he said that also happens every day).

They just got their cages installed, and apparently haven't updated their inventory yet. He said that the new policy is that the tools behind the cage don't get handed to a customer, the employee must bring them to the cashier. They still have a lot of stuff not behind cages.

Those of us chasing discounts are not thieves, we're not supporting the thefts by buying the obviously stolen merchandise at the pawn shops...

So I stumbled on a $0.01 clearance chisel and Home Depot refused to sell it to me for that price. The check out manager said they had to charge $5 for it. Anyone else run into a situation like this?

Yes, and you will run into both types of managers. Ones that know they aren't stopped to charge, b and others that think it's ok. if it's technically on the shelf, it is available for sale. That was their fault for not pulling it if they didn't want to sell it. Depending on what price they want to charge, or how bad you want the item, you may just want to pay the 5 and be done with it

I did end up buying it. It is a Buck Bros 1-1/2" chisel (made in USA) and at $5 it was still a good deal.

From what I was told at my local HD is they will keep discounting a item till it hits either $2 or $.02 and automatically goes into the trash and is smashed.

I van say I have never ever seen any item in the clearance that was actually even a good deal and most is just stupid stuff.

Correct. But if one of whatever is left behind, usually because an employee is told to pull ** # of the item it says in stock, but inventory is off. So some are left, and ring out as a penny, because nothing can ring or at $0.

The only exception to this is chemicals. They will leave to sell, usually under a custom SKU for $.25 or something very low, because it can't be destroyed.

I guess it's a gray area that depends if it's worth fighting for, like I said I have never seen anything even close to a dollar in price. Was at HD yesterday and actually had some milwaukee stuff in the clearance section, 1/2" drill for $99 so almost grabbed it but trying to save money right now.

Hi guys I need a favor

I got the scaffold which went down to a penny but they refused to sell it to me and gave it to me for free. it seems like everything is in the box but one piece is bent and the company wants the receipt no matter how hard I tried.

If anyone could do me a huge favor and send me a copy of that receipt I would appreciate it.
I'm not into buying it at full price and doing any of those tricks...

this part is not available for sale not from the manufacturer and not from eBay or any other place.

So I'd really appreciate the favor.
Thanks!!!

P.S. another question I have - it looks like $357 in Brickseek with "limited quantity" is one penny and is not in PCA..
but if it's "out of stock" in Brickseek then it is an "inactive" in PCA priced $316.
It has been a few years since I shopped clearance at home Depot so would appreciate if anyone could explain how this works now. Thanks again!

P.S2. it looks like comments that followed this post got deleted? Sorry if some of those comments violated rules

If you could be more specific about the scaffold (brand, item number, etc)
that would really help your cause.

I’m not sure how or where your scaffold was bent but I find the bottom of the leg is where they usually get tweaked. I have brought them back to true with some heat from the torch. If in doubt of strength, you could always add a small triangular gusset under the lower horizontal piece and the leg. I have some scaffold that came from the factory with gussets in this spot that I have had to release and reweld the cut after being brought back to true. If it was a brace that was bent, just buy another and consider yourself lucky for getting the set for the price of a brace.

OR....

You could buy a new set, have a extra pieces to add to the new section when working just one buck high and write the bent piece off.

Highly unlikely the guy is going to fork over $316.00 dollars to have spare parts.

Ive been recently shopping for a new box and ive noticed limited quanity of almost all boxes.

1. Not sure if this is due to supplier issues or logistic issues importing the boxes
2. its time for another year of the clearance of slow moving boxes

Has anyone else noticed this? Hoping to score a good deal here ASAP in the next day or so.

The shutdown in China due to COVID has disrupted supply chains for everything from China, there is essentially a 6 week gap in production. It takes three months to get here, so we are now in the midst of the product shortages.

Should be back to normal in another month or so.
