Has anyone tried doing a buy at full price, then if item goes on clearance, return, rebuy at clearance?

Like most stores, HD policy is that sales and clearance pricing do not apply to prior purchases.

Depends on the associate. When something is on clearance when bought, I have had them match the new clearance pricing. To be clear, this is at the same store as originally purchased. Just did a return/rebuy in the system.

Not that they will allow this post to stay up, but you can force a return rebuy at clearance with the right associate and timing.

Just picked up the Milwaukee Fuel miter and brought it to a store with a 50% off clearance price, 1 showing in stock but nowhere to be found. Returned it, then as soon as the return went through asked to buy it. Another minimum wage uppity associate butted in claiming she would need approval and this and that basically just making up reasons not to do it, she was frantically trying to get some manager type to stop the proceedings. I had the one helping me just scan it in “so we would be ready to go” as soon as she did I jammed the credit card in, grabbed my own receipt, and told her to have a nice day. Manager coming up behind in a huff about what we pulled off but couldn’t do anything since we paid not a second too soon.

This same store I overheard associates in the tool area talking about how they had a kickback deal going with clearance items being only given to certain people. Pretty sure the HD clearance is organized crime going all the way up to the store manager’s making money on it. They don’t like when you abuse their little scheme to your benefit.

That's not really forcing a return but just getting lucky due to the associates handling your return.

You didnt "force" anything.

Around here, they don't even entertain a rebuy and simply shut you down when you asked.

Definitely some shady things going on. Brickseek showing stock at 3 stores, and there's nothing to be found. I even checked all the rafters. I bet they are in the back.

OK, Thanks. Guess i will return it.

Some stores may allow return and rebuy - return the item, buy it again at the clearance price.

Doesn't hurt to ask, you can always return it if they won't give you the clearance price.

That may get you arrested in some places. The sales rep probably was reprimanded and maybe lost their job. For me, saving a few bucks would not be worth the risk of arrest and of causing a sales rep to be reprimanded or fired.

That seems very unlikely, the DM would have stopped that scheme a lot time ago if they tried that. It has been tried before, quickly found, and stopped.

Brickseek showing stock at 3 stores, and there's nothing to be found.

Brickseek stock counts are often very inaccurate. With a stock of 3, depending on the time, there may well be none actually in the store. Of the 2 that might be in the store (1 is typically a display or non-sellable unit), they could have been stocked in the wrong location, hidden behind something, a customer hid them to buy later on clearance, stolen, or a stock clerk or cashier miscounted.

If the store computer shows they have five or more in stock, it's likely you will find them. Less than that and you may or may not.

Well, I went to store that had the item on clearance, but none to be found, with brickseek showing 4 in stock. I brought item in, asked if I could readjust the the price. Associate said sure, no prob. Well the clearance price rang up at the full price. I just returned it. Now brickseek shows 5 in stock, so, these are hiding somewhere.

I don't know why a DM would even care? They want to see good P&L sheets and a clean, safe store, beyond that the store manager should be able to do whatever the heck they want provided it's not against the law.

That's not the way HD views it, HD SMs do not have as much policy independence as the ones at the blue box store and are kept on a pretty short leash.

What was described is against HD policy as well as possibly illegal. DMs care about stores following policy and certainly the law, at least in my area.

Had an issue with a store "holding" a clearance item for someone (they are not allowed to hold items unless they are paid for), employee said he was holding it for a friend, SM would not resolve, contacted CS, DM contacted me, I got the item. Next time at that store they had a different SM.

As always, YMMV, etc.

I had bought a drill doctor on clearance for $74, normal $104.
Price dropped within a week to $52 and still had inventory. I asked service counter if they would price match since less than 30 days and they did. If not, since it was un-opened, I would have returned it and bought a different one at the $52 price.

If they still have it in stock they will always price adjust because you can simply return one and then go buy one off the shelf, so a price adjust does not hurt them in any way. I have also got home depot to price adjust clearance items a couple of times if it drops shortly after I buy it and have had good luck (knock on wood). I always go in with a smile, be polite and patient, and have had good luck asking for a return/rebuy. I never demand it.

I found a 100 ft. roll of RG6 t.v. cable for $13.68. It's normally over $25. I was planning on updating my antenna soon so it was a good find.

Bunch of Milwaukee sets on clearance at my local HD in Vegas. Mostly brushless sets that include a circular saw.

Picked up 2593-22 for $179 - M12 Fuel Hacksaw and Impact Driver with 2x Batteries. You can buy the Fuel Hacksaw and get a free battery for the same price, then return the battery. But this ended up being a better deal for me as I put the Impact and my old non fuel hacksaw on offerup and made back $150 same day.

Kept the 4.0 and 2.0 batteries

It's currently listed as $199 on HD online.

None of the Milwaukee tape measures are discounted.

Looking at my HD today, two stainless 1/2hp sump pumps were 50% off, and a whole lot of toilet hardware was 75% off.

I bought one or those $10 Milwaukee tapes. It’s got a nice stickout and compact size for a 25 footer. What I like most is that the underside is graduated as well.

Don't ask. Just return it. When done, pull out another credit card and say you want to put it on that card. Act dumb if the price is different. For some reason they always believe me when I act dumb.:)

The risk is that they may not sell it to you, they are supposed to "process" the return and not resell it immediately.

Walmart has 250' for $7. Lots of stores have it in stock. Not sure if there's a difference between brands, this one is blackweb Rg6 Quad shield, which I believe is slightly better than RG6. I'd get it, but no way I can rewire from attic, but I'm still thinking of going back and getting it :)
They also have blackweb Universal RG6 compression tool kit with 20 waterpfoof F connectors for $3

Walmart also has 150mi antenna for $11 which supports 2 tvs and rotates with remote. I picked one up, have it in my attic and get close to 70 channels. Works great, except signal quality for ABC sometimes is weak, not sure it's tv or the cable.
What's an antenna?
After almost 30 years I finally cut the cord. I probably watch antenna less than 30 min a week, I get all the news from youtube (another 15 min a week:))
Instead of paying for crappy tv, I get it for free.
Once you try OLED you never go back :)

So I almost scored my first $0.01 deal today, but still wound up way ahead in the end... I've been scouring local stores to find this John Deere Utility Cart that was marked down to $99, and recently has been getting clearanced out at $49 at a lot of HD stores. Brickseek told me there were a few stores with "limited stock" which usually means there are none, but for me the juice was worth the squeeze on this deal since I really need a cart to help buck a tree that fell on my property.

Today at lunch I decided to check out another HD store, and low and behold I found one, hooked up to a lawn tractor in the front of the store - no other units in stock. I took a picture of the price tag (which still showed it at the $199 price) and showed it to the cashier to ring me up. It rang up at $0.01. I could tell this guy was new by the "does not compute" look on his face, and then he started to give me some story about how he couldn't sell it because they had already taken it out of inventory... I very nicely asked to speak to a manager, and told him how I've been searching for this cart, and I'm not asking him to sell it to me for a penny, but other local stores are clearancing them out for $49. I saw the look on his face change when I told him that, and he then went and grabbed a Scotts mini spreader and told me I could have it for that price ($36) but I couldn't return it. DONE DEAL!!

Awesome. I picked up the Brinley 17ft for $9x (call it $100 with gas). Been eyeing it, then two mark downs in little over a week. Was not expecting that and missed one close by.

I also snagged a Milwaukee rain coat for a penny a few weeks back. Manager said their fault for not pulling. But I also missed buying a few .03 items this week as they went to a penny, and the manager said he watched them go in the garbage (a small year may have formed in my eye to hear fine product actually thrown out. when I worked retailewe just said that happened & gave away).

A little trick I learned over the weekend. I was looking for a certain item and it showed on clearance but OOS at the store. Brickseek showed limited stock. I called and the HD automated message asked me for the internet #. Sure enough they had it in stock at the marked down price.

Saw this compact little fellow at the NYC Home Depot today.
I suspect they're going for a lot less in other states.
Let me know if its a good deal.

I'm more interested in the Rigid Compact 3/8 drive impact and 1/4 hex bit impact.
The heads are even smaller, but they have 18 V battery packs.
I like the 18 V but I think the bigger battery pack will get in the way.
