Hey Curt,
I'm very impressed with your photography. Can you help us out and post what type of camera, etc you use? I know it has more to do with your skill and knowledge of your equipmet... but I'd love to know what you use to get that quality.
Thanks!
I'm kinda fond of them as well
I use a Nikon D80.Hey Curt,

Good! I love my VWs, glad there are quite a bit of vw people on here. The squarebacks will be the first big projects in the shop. I'm very excited to work on them in there.x2
very nice build plus I see VW'sI'm kinda fond of them as well

did you use sketch up for the floor plan too?
Like others have said, fabulous design. Simple lines really let the proportions and design shine through.
Yeah, my dad and I wanted a shop that looked classy and it is turning out very nice. It is costing more than just a warehouse lookalike, but it is worth it.on the front page of the site, very nice! i like the design of the shop. my wife likes the contemporary style of the building, and i agree. she is more accepting of the shop idea if it looks like that. so many shops in the backyard just look like warehouses, killing the look of the yard. nicely done, looking forward to seeing it finished.

Subscribed! I'm right behind you. We should break ground by next summer.I'm a VW guy too. Just sold my 68k mile '66 fasty due to needing the room for the build. Looking forward to watching your project progress. Especially curious to see your ideas on lift placement, workbench and storage ideas. Keep up the good work!![]()
I noticed that, but don't know why they did that. Rainscreen is the way to go, I'll have to ask the builders what the plan is for that region.Garage looks awesome so far. A quick question I had is if you have any idea why there are 2 layers of tyvek? The sheeting is in a tyvek sandwich. Rainscreen is definitely the way to go for that region.
Curt-
I'm subscribed, too! And not too far away either - I'm in Seattle, near 125th & 12 Ave NW - with the same kind and size trees...
Great looking project!
Joe
What siding design we are going with. I love it, especially that the wood wraps around to the other side. and the contrast between wood and metal. I believe we are doing a rainscreen set up for the wood siding, not exactly sure how they mount the corrugated metal.

electrical plan. A few things still need to be added to this.

All windows are in. Finishing the roof is next I think, then finishing making it fully enclosed.

Awesome looking build. One question, though. How tall are the back walls compared to the front walls? Looks like a lift might not get very tall with a longer vehicle (say you take an interest in a mid 60's impala, for instance). Any concerns there?
Haha awesome, glad to hear.I joined the site because of this thread.
It has everything I need in it.

Great looking garage. Congrats on the progress and good luck.
Thank you, do you have a link to yours?Absolutely beautiful design. Reminds me of mine, a little. I did the corrugated siding on part of mine, too.
Old barn siding would look slick. I always like seeing old wood get reused on new buildings. I don't know where our builders got our wood, but we are using Ipe.Love the siding idea will look very nice. I had thought about old barn siding with galv siding, but wondering if you had a different source for your wood. Anyway I will look forward to seein' this thing completed.
Thank you very much sir!VERY nice garage, .... VERY VERY nice photography !!!
Well done !!
Just found this thread via the 'Best of 2010' thread.A well deserved mention.
Nice job Curt!

You could always refinish the exterior of the shop to something similar to what we are doing. I love the MGB GT in your avatar, is it yours? Great colors. This is great, if my place hadn't come with a shop this would be the direction I'd go. architecturally.
yes, 2x12's. They are at least 24' in length, add a bit more because of the sloped roof. I never measured the exact length before they were put up.
And they are spaced 16" apart.![]()

Wow Curt. That's a beautiful project you've got going. I saw it on the front page, can't believe I missed it back in Sept.
We've been working on a very similar garage. Shed roof, 2x12 rafters, quirky siding...
Hasn't been updated in a while (hard to make progress with the snow and cold) but projects like this make me want to get back to it...

In the long run, that might be the smart way to go. You could always buy another one down the road, the cool thing about those cars are they are rare, but still available for decent prices.I have a standard lowish-pitch metal pole building. It's not offensive but it's unremarkable. And I've blown my building budget for the year inside, and I'm not done yet.
The GT is mine, last winter's project. Got an offer which is borderline "hm" territory and the money would help patch that blown budget, so it might go away soon. Not sure. I have plenty of old British stuff to keep me occupied.
great looking space love the dubs i own a vw custom shop in nh
