1/2 is back and firing on all cylinders? Here I thought I had a chance at looking good. All kidding aside, glad to hear everything went well.

1/2: great to hear you are out of the hospital (yep i rarely go to visit friends and family there cause of all the potential bugs i can catch and I wait until they are back at home for a visit).

back to work too and full time or still 3 day work week? hope you had success and maybe a bit of fun flying the drone. did you?

you seem to almost be back at full speed so hope that keeps heading that direction.

cheers (yep made a few more gallons of good ice tea and enough to share if you stop by and need a cold mug of some)

Steve,
I'm glad the immunotherapy is not giving you any bad effects, and that you are doing well enough to go back to work.
Have fun with the drone, and know that many people are pulling for you and praying for you.

Jon thank you.
So far so good.

The drone work was great fun and to think I get paid to do it..:rocker:

Back in the saddle again! Enjoy the ride!

Bobby I am enjoying being back at work.

Actual operations or more practice?

Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk

Craptain it was actual operations where we did some survey work of part of our irrigation system remodelling.

Xtremek not quite all cylinders as yet but I do feel great..

Excellent news

Rian thank you.

Glad you are back to work. That is great therapy at this point, getting into a routine of normalcy.

Andy believe me it is great to be back at work and as you say get back into a normal routine.:rocker:

That's good news Steve.

Mark

Drives me too, I am not a huge fan of visiting people in hospital either for that very reason.:scared:

I am back full time but can come and go as I please if I feel tired or crook.

As always we had a great time with the drone, doing in under two hours ( plus a little processing time ) what would have taken days using manual methods.:rocker:

I should drop by and try your tea as that is what my go to drink has been of late..

1/2 glad your back on your way to full speed again!

Sub thank you.

I am getting there..

Thank you one and all, have a top day..

Well try being an AMAZON Customer in Australia and only have the Aussie site to access now as the US site will not add GST (Goods & Servise Tax for Australia). Amazon is not playing fair any more.

At least Andy you could get 1/2 or myself to buy for you and ship to the US but the freight on those globes may be a killer.

On that note correct it did not do you any good at all. :(

1/2 sorry for the side track on your topic. :pimpflash

Again thanks for looking.

I only got a couple. I doubt I needed more but at that price if I went back today I am sure they would be all gone.

I'm not much of an Amazon customer, usually a better price for free shipping on eBay or other sites. But they ship quickly here. I know we have access to a lot more and cheaper goods here than you do there. Of course none of us can help that.

You guys still have it pretty good.

Sadly we are finding many places overseas will no longer play with us so to speak. Buying from overseas has become an issue. Still Bunnings is a great place to shop. I know 1/2 Cup is like me and still the best for the bargains.

Andy I do envy you guys in regards to the access to cheaper goods and equipment, that said when you boil it all down it is pretty relative.

HOTFR8 I do hunt for bargain as you know and do shop around for the best deal all the time.
Now we have to pay Goods and Services Tax ( GST ) on purchases below $1000.00 AU from any purchase from overseas I am not sure how that is going to work now??:headscrat

We have friends that ship out from Amazon for us. Although we have found by shopping around a lot of places are dropping their prices to get those extra sales.

Terrick that's the way to go:thumbup:

I am a bit late getting my upholstery kit for the Model A from Le Baron Bonney and have it shipped in under $1000.00 lots....******.

If one were to purchase them in the states and send them to you as a gift would the GST still apply? What if the receiving party decided to bestow a gift of similar value in cash to the original party, are there potential ramifications for those kind gestures between friends?

Re the GST from overseas to Australia, I believe it works this way.
Importing goods anything over $1000 au has taxes (not sure which ones) added plus import duty depending on the item.
Under $1000 has been tax and duty free on most items untill Australian businesses/sellers convinced the government that they were missing out on the 10%sales tax, so how do they get this 10 percent and who collects it?
A parcel sent from the US for example of say $100 would cost more to asses and chase money from the buyer than the $10 the government would receive.
So they decided to make any overseas sellers who ship to Australia a tax collector to charge and collect 10% on all of the goods they sell to us, then forward it to the Aust tax office the same way we pay our BAS statements every quarter.
Amazon US has decided they dont want to collect the 10% in the USA so they now only ship from the Australian Amazon (based in Dandenong Vic) they add the 10% and pass it on as per all of the other businesses in Australia.
But, there is always a but, any businesses overseas or in Australia with an annual turnover of less then $75,000au does not have to register to collect tax.
So small businesses and individuals from overseas can still sell to Australia without adding the GST
This is a simple version of how it is supposed to work.

1/2 & All: so if i want to ship to or from Australia an item say under 100 pounds other than flying down with it in my suitcase or flying home with it in my suitcase what is the best way to ship.

cheapest isn't always best so looking for somewhat secure or a sort of guarantee it arrives safely to or from there?

1/2: good to hear your foods (even your pleasure foods) are tasting better and hope you get the clean bill of health soon.

are you able to exercise or maybe you have been other than doing your normal stuff that would keep anybody in shape?

cheers

Some times that can work but our Customs often check on something like that.
Sadly that topic can get very polictical.

Tried any of those LED globes you got yet? I have mine set aside as spares or they may get used in the Teardrop Camper.

HOTFR8, no the LEDs are just for spares as well.

Drives, most likely I would use our postal service and as Andy said it does link well with Australia Post.

I am eating well although I do not specifically have an exercise routine but I do keep very active and I can not say I have ever been over weight all my life.

Bloods tomorrow and Immunotherapy # 2 on Wednesday. All is going well.

+1 This is what I always use, have tried other methods but have had bad experiences with courier companies.

Always used them when travelling to send 'souvenirs' home and to date never lost anything.
And most of the ladies at the USPS stores are super friendly and helpful.

We are keeping a close eye on what Amazon, AliExpress and other online retailers are doing in(to) Australia. Our government is planning similar action to 'protect on-shore retailers'. AE have simply shunned small countries and Amazon can easily do the same. I'd be most annoyed if it voids my Kindle. While it is great that Amazon Au will likely serve NZ too, shutting down sales from the International site, it is unlikely to be the stuff I prefer. Focusing on general sales items instead. The stuff I can actually buy locally - which actually defeats the whole point of why I buy from them. :headscrat :wtf: :spit:

While it has my hackles up - Import duty is nothing compared to the storage and handling fee that the customs agent charges over here. I'd happily pay any tax that is due. Especially since not much of what I buy overseas is available anywhere in NZ. Though to get full support from the privatised customs agent to collect what is due, they've been allowed to charge their costs to the customer as well. I was shocked to see the daily storage rate was higher than the tax and duty. Pretty much extortion - forcing you to pay as fast as possible to avoid the extra costs. One week in their warehouse would cost more than the item I purchased which is just a 250mm x 200mm x 200mm parcel to start with. Even though I paid within 5mins of receiving an invoice they still charged me a day's storage as payments could only be processed the following day! :willy_nil :willy_nil :willy_nil

NPD (National Parts Depot) in the US, which has been a good price option with cheaper international shipping than many other suppliers for parts and accessories for American cars, has sent this email out to Australian customers. The expectation is that the other big outfits like Summit will follow suit. Obviously if the big suppliers over there are dong this then the numerous small ones that supply unique and hard to find items will certainly not find dealing with Australian customers worth their while.

"To all of National Parts Depot’s valued Australian Customers:
We regret to inform you that effective 1 July 2018, NPD will be suspending shipments/purchases to Australia for all orders valued at $1,000 AUD or less.
• For orders less than $1,000 AUD – Due to upcoming reforms (effective 1 July 2018) in Australian Goods and Service Tax (GST), NPD will effectively be required to register with your Government’s taxing authority, calculate your order in Australian dollars, and apply and remit such GST directly to the Australian Government. The amount of necessary re-coding to our computer systems (both off-line and on-line), as well as the ongoing administrative upkeep and processes, is too burdensome to justify. Additionally and more importantly, by the mere registration we become an offshore tax collector for Australia, and are charged with all the rights and obligations of an Australian domestic business.
• For orders in excess of $1,000 AUD – We are hopeful/confident that orders of parts exceeding $1,000 AUD will be possible for us to accommodate. GST, Customs, Duties and Border Processing Charges will all be applied and charged directly to you at Customs.
We regret this decision to suspend service on smaller orders and hope you can understand our predicament. We understand that this places an inconvenience on our many loyal Australian customers and look forward to a day when hopefully we may resume serving all your restoration parts needs, big or small. "

Geoff it is certainly going to be interesting post July 1 what the net effect will be overall looking back in years to come.

We all know this is in a word stupid. Luckily the GJ is a global forum and as members we can all see how this affects the global community.

Lets move on and get 1/2Cups topic back on topic. I am sure at present like me 1/2 is not enjoying our cold mornings.

HOTFR8 spot on.

It is a tad fresh in the mornings now a days and it looks like we are in for a wet long weekend so some Quality Shed Time ( QST ) it is.

Despite the new laws i doubt it will make an impact on the declining sales locally. Many retail shops simply dont sell enough volume to compete with online sites.
Also does anyone know what happens if the overseas company doesnt sign up for the GST?
how will they ensure freight forwarders will comply?
ps asking for a friend thats making an engine parts order soon ;)

The online stuff to me is not as good as a visit to the store.

I know 1/2 will agree a visit to Bunnings is just so much fun. I can add AutoBarn, Autopro, Super Cheap or even Repco.

Haha I can understand a visit to bunnings is more like a religious experience these days. The key thing here is Bunnings 99% of the time will have stock.

But with stores like SCA,Repco and Autobarn I can’t count the number of times recently I’ve visited and the product shown on their website is not in stock or no longer sold. It makes me regret not buying from OS with express postage (also cheaper) every time.
Also I’m sure we’ve all noticed the slow decline of quality tools being sold via SCA. Almost every brand 5-10 years ago has been replaced with a cheaper alternative.
Every time I walk in it seems I cringe at the Ray Charles welding on a set of jack stands.

Matty that's true although many do have an online presence. I do shop locally where I can to support local business and we do the same at work.

To be honest I do not know what happens if they don't sign, may be you will get charged an extra component on the import duties:dunno:

When I get stuck back into he Model A I will let you know as I have quite a bit to purchase for it in the States..

Matty you are right there unless its a promo item like HOTFR8 and myself found out last weekend.

Bunnings do stock some good brands when it comes to tools.

I don't buy tools at either Supercheap or Autobarn to be honest and as my Dad always says you don't need to buy a tool twice meaning buy good quality in the first instance.

I do shop around though.

I hear your guys. I'd much rather buy from a local business than big chain or on-line "place". With the possible exception of McMaster-Carr.

1/2: I'm hearing a lot of MODEL A talk coming from the Shed Downunder so have you pulled off the sheet yet to take a good gander (look) at it lately?

sounds like you'd rather shop at a guy's vintage garage when he's selling a few of his old quality tools, but if new is the only choice it's good to have a good store or two close by to fill that need.

i'm not sure exactly when Quality was sacrificed for cheap and throw away, but if it doesn't change back our country won't have anything to use if China and India quit exporting there goods.

sounds like your health is doing well and best of luck with the reports from your doctors this week.

cheers and more prayers sent!!

I hear your guys. I'd much rather buy from a local business than big chain or on-line "place". With the possible exception of McMaster-Carr.

xtremek you are right there:thumbup:

Drives no sheets have come off the Model A just yet but I have been giving quite a lot of thought to it I must admit.

Quite often purchasing older equipment is the way to go some times but as I have said on occasion you do have to know what you are buying. Older stuff for the most part is very repairable and fit for purpose.
My welders and compressor I have bought new in recent times and I in doing so have brought reasonable quality gear that will last for many years to come. Round #2 of my Immunotherapy yesterday and apart from being a little tired at work today I have not thus far had any side effects ( touch wood ) and this will continue every two weeks. My bloods again were all within the envelope as well which again are taken and monitored every two weeks.

This is the Immuno drug I am on

Note to file : have a peak at the possible side effects.:shocking:

We have a long weekend this week so I am planning a little QST as the weather is not looking all that flash for outdoor activities.

On the To Do List this long weekend.

. I have just stated a garden art project to compliment the rustic Water Wheel I installed as a garden feature a couple of months ago ( pics to follow when I get something worthwhile to photograph.

. Fabricate a mounting bracket for my Traffic Light set.

. Finish off the old wine barrel makeover that I started last year.

and finally just take things easy for a bit.

Thank you one and all, have a good one..
