HOTFR8 some of the roads up there would make for a spectacular circuit, that said It would never happen.

Tarrengower is a classic:thumbup: We have communications equipment up there.

Oh, you Victorians, you ! Its kinda cute that you could even dream that you could think you could ever have that happen- Pretty sure the Victorian Police Highway Patrol would be out there as usual with their speed traps clocking the whole race with subsequent point and fines for anything over 1 km above the speed limit.... they wouldn't be able to help themselves ... :lol_hitti
( hey- just joking of course !!!) .... but all good jokes are close to the truth ?? :headscrat

Agree, never happen.

Did you know the fire tower look out has been upgraded?
https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/mount-tarrengower-tower-upgrade-on-schedule/

HOTFR8 yep I was aware that it is being upgraded as we have had to temporarily relocate our communications gear in the mean time. The old lookout was pretty primitive.

Met up with the Highway Patrol at the Drags at Heathcote Park Raceway one night. Now he was having a ball with the radar as he had told VKC ( Radio opperations) he was off air for some time on another job. Seeing what the cars speed was before it cam on the raceway screen was interesting.

Being an Ex Fire Spotter (Mt Arapiles) I am keen to see the upgrades this summer if I can.

We still have a few fire towers around, but they don’t use them much. I would imagine things could get pretty boring as the lookout.

1/2 and all Aussies: It's just good to have a paid holiday day for whatever reason and if it has to be a soccer game, a queen's birthday from another country or anything so you can recharge your batteries.

1/2: yep you really have some skills at shining up old engines and metal and you might want to show off a few on this thread if you haven't already.

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=377463

more prayers sent hoping your therapy is really coming to an end with positive results.

cheers

HOTFR8 we are to so that we can put back our antennas

Strouty we use our fire watch tower all summer as they are great for early detection.

HOTFR8 should be able to fill us in on what his experiences were like.

Many thanks for your continued prayers and thoughts they are sincerely appreciated.

Never. In fact I could tell you some stories you would not believe.

HOTFR8 please do.

OK. I used to go to work and meet people from all over the world. One day a young fellow broke the spring with string centred in the middle of the tower. That was the compass for the bearings of the fire. Another day a bush walker appeared in her Bikini.........Well I said you may not believe me :bounce:. I told another tower in the Grampians who did not believe me and next day he was on the radio saying he had the same visitor.

I had something like 32 antennas on the roof. Fire Brigade repeaters, Trunk radio, National Parks. Wimmera Mallee Water along with Police etc. Even had the Police Chopper look me in the eye one day. Was told I should have had a tomato plant on the roof with no tomatos.

Mt Tarrengower should be 100% on what it used to be.

HOTFR8 from what I have seen on paper, yes it will be.
The supporting structure is heritage listed and is painted in lead paint which will be removed after it is encapsulated. Th old observation deck is to be dismantled and a new prefabricated one lifted in place.

That's awesome HOTFR8 and thank you for sharing.
The old Mt. Tarrengower fire tower is pretty primitive, so I am looking forward to see what the new one is like.

Hah seeing pictures of the tower bring back memories! I volunteered to help scrutineer for the local hill climb there years ago. 3+ cars ended upside down or crushed into the wall! Was an interesting weekend to say the least

All I thought I would share a couple of local auction offerings coming up for sale. There is some real nice old goodies in amongst them.

Enjoy

Aw Steve. Now you've gone and done it! I mentioned to Ginny that we have a container port only half hour away and I bet we could get safe passage to go down under and see Steve PLUS ride back with all the STUFF we got from the auction!! She said she would cook me anything I wanted when I got home as I would probably be mighty hungry when they broke the lock on that container!

1/2: so if you do go to the auction or maybe it's online what might interest you?

from my chair it looks like a good place to buy a vintage sign or two or ...

an anvil that is maybe 150 pounds?

an old vintage trailer in case you need another one?

hope all the therapy finds you well this week.

cheers

Drives generally these are not on line, however a friend of mine organises them all so I can put in an auctioneers bid very easily if need be.
There is some really nice stuff in amongst all the lots:drool:

Drives,
Auctions like that are not online. They can be pretty 'active' events when they have so many items like you see in those links.

HOTFR8 so true.

Have a great day and thank you for your visit.

Steve don't see the Model A stuff but I would sure like to have that Michelin sign but it will probably go for more than I would spend.

Hey Steve, I just went back a few pages (I'm not even going to try to actually catch up on everyone's threads - I'm way too far behind) - great to hear that you are still getting good report cards from the doctors.
Some really nice stuff at those auctions.

1/2: while i know having a friend that is an auctioneer might be hazardous to my marriage i bet you've found the happy spot so you don't buy everything you like. sure is fun hearing comments of other guys thoughts about auction items cause in some parts of the world the prices are cheap and/or crazy high for some items. what sells for pennies here in the USA might sell for big dollars Down Under and vise versa.

it's another great day even though it's raining here so hope you are feeling well.

cheers

Bobby most of the Model A bits are early 1928 by the looks of things. Some of those signs are to die for and you are right command big $$ out here.

Signs? Need to be shopping for a lathe. Mrs. Clause needs to finish her list.

Shorty as luck would have it just scored an early Christmas present yesterday. Don't judge a book by its cover there is a lot of surface rust but very little wear and comes with 3 &4 jaws, steady, live centres, face plate and some tooling.

View media item 87232

The price was right and it is a 3 phase unit, I pick it up Thursday.:rocker:

Drives I have leant to refrain myself at auctions let me tell you, set a limit an stick to it. Auctions out here can just go crazy and I have to say there is never to many bargains to be had at most :shocking:

It is lovely spring weather here today but we do need the rain badly.

Thank you one and all for dropping by I out to the shed to make some room for the new ( to me ) lathe. It is going to be tight.

Can’t wait to see what you crank out of that lathe.

I’m sure it’ll get a good going through before it takes a prominent place in the shop.

1/2: congrats on finding a lathe that you think fits the bill to enter the SHED DOWNUNDER.

to my untrained eye it doesn't look wonderful, but either did that engine Andrew dropped on your bench about 2 years ago and look how you made that shine.

I know that lathe is going to be blessed to have you as it's new owner cause it will be running like new again one day in the near future.

I bet Andrew is excited too cause now every little part that is needed for one of his projects might be made in the Shed Downunder instead of having to buy it and ship it from the UK. I know i've always wanted one to learn on, but most of the ones around here are crazy expensive and most or too heavy for me to move since i'm the forklift.

congrats!!!
