January 26 Proudly our Nations Foundation day.

Enjoy...

looking good so far!

looks like progress!

That's a lot of up and down a ladder.

Makes me tired just looking at it.

Going to look nice with the house.

looks great so far 1/2 cup.

great work! Looks like you've made really good progress. We've been fertilising our paddocks over the last couple of days, pretty unpleasant in high 30s weather with the smell and flys associated with chook manure! It was meant to rain this afternoon, but it's still hot and sunny at this point. Hope the forecast rain for tomorrow comes through.

looking half cupped! It it is cool how you designed it you should be proud, it is aesthetically pleasing and functional.

looking great 1/2 cup!

ok, please clue me in. What's the mesh for and what's it made out of?

Thanks heaps guys, appreciated

Riven, My legs are killing me this morning, that's is a lot of ladder work. I must make a mental note of just how many steps per sheet???

Andrew, I can relate to chook manure and hot weather. I put 40 kgs under my orange tree a few weeks ago in the heat, boy does that smell bring tears to your eyes. I killed it by covering it with 5 bales of straw then watered it in.;)

xtremek The mesh is basically a fine gal wire 4 x 4, and is used to hold up the foil insulation that acts as a vapour barrier.

Have a great day guys..

Speaking of all things Australian, Mrs 1/2 Cup hit a kangaroo, one of our National emblems, early yesterday morning near Wharing on her way to Melbourne.

She phoned me and was quite shaken by it all.

The kangaroo was not injured but my work vehicle, a Mitsubishi Outlander had a humungus dent in the front plastic bumper. The car is due to be replaced next month and I didn't fancy filling in yet another accident claim form and incident report.:shocking:

I should have taken a pic, but Google is my friend now.

I broke out my trusty Dewalt digitally controlled heat gun, applied some gentle heat to the stressed area and like magic with a little hand pressure from behind the dent was fixed and you would not know it.:)

Mrs 1/2 Cup was pretty happy about it and I was to not having to front my fleet manager yet again.

I also highlighted the fact to Mrs 1/2 Cup that my investment in quality tools has payed off yet again.

Cheers guys..

1/2: nice work on your bumper. i hit a neighbors dog (or he actually hit me) at 6 am on my way home after dropping my son off as his swim practice. dog was fine and i thought i needed a new bumper because it looked horrible. then i heard about the heat gun treatment and it popped right back in place and only needed a touch up paint on the scratch where it bent. my son bumped into something and was pretty sad his nice car had a ding in it so i handed him the heat gun and told him how to fix it and he managed nicely and had a big grin on his face when he handed it back to me.

i didn't see you build all that framework for your carport yet, but i'm sure i will and just wanted to say it looks amazing.

congrats on being born into Australian royalty by the way since your Auntie is on a short list of award winners.

Thanks drives

The build is imbedded in the thread, my albums have most of the images as well.

My Auntie:bowdown: winning an Order of Australia Medal is the closest thing I will get to Royalty I can assure you.

I wonder what a Panel Shop would have charged to fix that ?

Have a great Australia Day Holiday. Like most Aussies a cold beer a BBQ and time in the shed.

Probably a grand or so given that they would have replaced the bumper.

I just mowed the lawns around the Hills hoist with the Victa. chuckn a snag on the barby and washin it down with cold VB tinny.

Have a great Australia day:thumbup:

Sadly both the Hills Hoist and the Victa are now made in China :( and VB is owned by some Foreign company. At least we can say they are all Aussie created.:)

Also heard today called Invasion Day but then how different would this place be if it was say first settled by the Dutch, Portuguese or even the Chinese or Japanese ?

Would we have the way of life we have ? Would we have the Shed as part of the Aussie terminology and the way of life ?

 Time to sit back and have another

"chuckn a snag" - Translation please.

Sounds like something I'd like, but want to make sure.

Chuckn = "throw a" - also has other connotations out here.

Snag = "Sausage"

We do twist the queens English some what.:)

Hoping that VB was grabbed out of the Esky (loaded with ice) 1/2 Cup!

That reminds me, I should wash out my eskys before I put them away...

As for twisting the Queens English, I had an American at a trade show ask me if I spoke English - I replied "You first"; he didn't see the funny side to that...

Carport is coming along too. Anymore done today?

I am actually kicking back right now and enjoying a coldy.

The shed and carport are cleaned up, tools away.

Thanks, but it was just too windy here today to get any more iron on so I spent the day, apart from bumper repairs, doing lawns, watering I actually spent the day in into the shed.

I ended up fitting all the draw slides to the supports I had made for the nine under bench draws so they are all ready to fit.

Moved some of the gear under the bench to clear some working space so I can get in and fit the supports.

Also finished 18 gutter support brackets for the gutter clips on the carport so they are ready for paint.

I am sure our American friends are more than a little bemused at the jargon, slang and Aussie isms that we post, any way if there is anyone out there just say "please explain "and we will get it.

Any way thanks for dropping by, I am off to the "pool room" to finish my coldy.

My work has kept me a tad preoccupied over the last week but I have managed to finish all the gutter support brackets, yet another job out of the way.

View media item 47767
The last week has been consistently windy, so much so I have not been able to progress any further with the Carport roofing until yesterday. Although the wind didn't ease up much I kept persisting and managed to get all bar the last two cut sheets up. A great mile stone in the project.

View media item 47768
Today, I will concentrate on the ridge capping and flashing. Followed by the guttering. I am guessing there will be at least another three full days work to complete these jobs, so that equates to another couple of weekends work.

Have a great weekend guys

Good progress, and nice work on the gutter brackets!

Keep up the good work!

Thanks guys, just chipping away at it. I was fairly windy here yesterday so I gave the roof work a miss and concentrated on tidy up stuff.

. Mowed lawns.
. Trimmed neighbours over hanging branches. Our fortnightly green waste picked up is due tomorrow and the bin never goes out empty.
. General clean up around the Carport build area.
. Trimmed excess foil insulation.
. Fitted off the lighting socket outlets for the Carport.
. Went shopping for some plastic storage containers so I could get a start on the under work bench clean up. It was pretty frustrating as I wanted a particular size and style and eventually I found exactly what I was after at a place called "Cheap as Chips "and can you believe it they are an Australian made tup with lid from Quantum Plastics at a whole $6 each I picked up 14 and made a start on the transition from UGLY area to neat in preparation for the new under bench draws.

Pics to follow and have a great day guys..

Carport is looking good ..

Those containers are pretty good for the price ... but the lids don't provide an airtight seal.

... so your smoko bikkies ... will go stale if you use one for them ..

Keep an eye on various suppliers - as they get discounted quite often.

Ive got a bunch of the 5l ones and the 2.5l ones.

The roof is looking great 1/2 cup, at first it looked like you where putting a cream strip in between each sheet join from the pics.

Thanks Lee, it must be just the lighting in the first shot that makes appear that way.

Carves, thank you.

I brought the 20 litre ones and the lids do fit well, not that I need them air tight any way, just neat.

I will be going back for a few more as I took what they had in stock.

I have knocked up some labels for the fronts this morning and will fit them tonight.

Cheers guys..

Thank you Herb.

The perimeter fence is very typical of inner urban properties out here. At six ft high is give you a certain level of privacy as well. I have that style of fence on both sides and rear too.

I am hoping I will leave that lasting legacy into the next century.

Nicely done. [emoji106]

Top job 1/2 Cup.

The before wasn't that bad, but great job making it better!

I would be a very happy camper if mine looked half as good as the "before" shot.

The boxes look great 1/2cup.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Just the little I have done there has made a huge difference and it doesn't need to cost heaps. Different in respect to how the garage feels and looks.

I have to say my eldest son is going to be the beneficiary of my over burden.;)

I just need to lighten the load so to speak. I certainly don't need dozens of every socket, spanner or screw driver made known to man.

One thing on my too do list is to post a pic of my affinity to screw drivers, being a sparky you become very particular and passionate about them.
Once again shocking screw driver hoarder images to follow.:shocking:

Have a good one gents and thanks for dropping by.

Great idea, so simple yet effective. But I have to ask, how long until random tools and parts find themselves on top of those tubs?

T.G.I.F. the week end is nearly here and it looks like it is going to be a hot one, predications of 100+F. So an early start to beat the heat.

The agenda:

. Carport gutters.
. Carport roof flashings.
. Lawns.

My fall back if it gets too hot is I will make a start on fitting the under bench draw slide brackets now that things are a little more organized.

Note to file don't store new tubes of gutter sealant any longer than a couple of years, like most things it has a use by date. Purchase what you need when you need it.

Have a great weekend...

I have that issue as well. Problem is I find I need them on a Sunday and no one is open.

Have a great weekend...

I predict you will fall back ;) this weekend. It is warm enough here now.

1/2: i still haven't had time to read through your entire thread so just trying to keep up with the last couple weeks is amazing from what I've seen. i usually don't see carports built so stout and probably because of the winds you keep talking about. sorry to hear you couldn't get the roof up because of the winds and sounds like it might have been a little too windy when you did do it. congrats on getting it done. it looks fantastic.

nice job on the shop and I've had my shop like that at times, but it's a constant battle not to stack stuff on the bench and even in front of the bench so i can't get to it. sadly it's that way now, but a few dry days and hopefully that will change for me too.

your bench looks awesome and nice comment about saving your son or your wife from having to sell all your extra tools. i couldn't imagine me passing tomorrow and having my family wondering what to do with all that i have so thanks for putting that little nugget in my brain.

cheers and keep up the great work

Just catching up on the last few pages, 1/2 Cup. Had the flu and pneumonia last week and am now two weeks behind on most everything. Carport is looking great as is your usual organizational work in the shed. I wish my clutter was as neat as yours, haha. Great work. Very nice day here for the middle of winter, 83 F.

We are fortunate here in that regard, all the big hardware stores are open seven days a week and with in a few minutes drive.
That can also be a problem as well, I spend a fair bit of time shopping.

Thanks drives,

The wind here is not normally an big problem, however it was just enough to be a real pain trying to lay foil insulation and sheets of iron down.

Structurally the Carport is an over kill, its more about aesthetics and balance.

I do try to have the work areas clean an free from clutter and tools where they should be. I find that with a relatively small shop you have to that much more disciplined otherwise it can get out of control to a point where its just not workable.

I am putting a lot more focus on the reorganisation, its a case of have to or I go nuts.:)

Highly impressive job organizing the workbench. Your shop is really inviting. Looks very easy to go in and find exactly what you need in the hardware section there.
