That is a great looking lamp. I'm jealous.

If you get a chance, (not like you're busy. Right?) would love to see the inside of the carpenter box.

That lamp is awesome, funny thing is on the weekend i went to a garage sale and as i was walking in a guy was walking out with a lamp similar to that but probably stood 5 foot tall or so and it had a real art deco style to it, i said to the wife i think we are to late to the party but we still scored a couple of other bargains.

Nice lamp! I just bought a new articulated lamp for the lathe. Would much rather have a "vintage" one though...

My sentiments exactly Coop:thumbup: I intend to retro fit the electrics with something a little more 21st century so its totally functional.

I have my eye on a couple of others, I find that if I score one the hunt usually is on for a second.

I will give the carpenter box a clean and vac today and intend to post pics as well.

Its a tad warm here today to do much on the Carport / Storage Solution build so I have retreated to the shed and have taken the opportunity to clean up the old Carpenters Box I picked up last weekend from my S.I.L..

The leaf litter, rat **** and spiders webs inside.

Nothing of any worth, just junk.

The draw.

For the most part it looks like what we call out here "Depression Furniture"
I believe the timbers it is made from are a combination of Meranti, Australian Cedar and Pine.

Now comes the clean out while I ponder my next step...

I'd hit it all with a stiff nylon brush, and a coat of your favorite oil.

Nothing too shiny. Maybe buff the handles a tad.

Would make a nice display for your older tools.

Traveling in a fried-out combie
On a zippie tie trail head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast

And she said, "Do you come from a Shed down under?
Where women glow and men play with A Models an electrical goodies?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover" from 1/2 Cups thunder.

Buying Goodies from a man in Brussels (On Ebay really)
He was six foot four and full of muscle
I said, "Do you speak my language?" (The GJ langauage )
He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich.
(Pie & Sauce with peas would be better)

And he said, "I come from a Shed down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover", yeah

Dying in a den in Bombay (In a place called Shepparton really)
With a slack jaw and not much to say
I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?"

And he said, "Oh, you come from a Shed down under?"
(Oh yeah, yeah)
"Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?"
(Oh)
"You better run, you better take cover"

'Cause he is livin' in a Shed down under
Where women glow and men plunder
(Yeah)
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
(Thunder)
You better run, you better take cover

Livin' in a Shed down under
Where women glow and men plunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
(Ooh yeah)
Then I run and then I take cover
(Yeah)

We are livin' in a Shed down under
Where women glow and men plunder
Can't you, can't you hear the thunder?
Then I run then I take cover

Just getting a little off track but none the less worth sharing.

A touch of nostalgia and trip down memory lane tinged with just a little sadness for our family yesterday. Our Church set in the small rural community of Katamatite closed its doors for the last time yesterday.
Nearly 40 years ago my folks sold their farm that was situated 2 miles outside Katamatite and moved an hour south to where we are now in Shepparton.
For the most part we ( brothers and sisters ) were all baptised and attended Sunday school there.
The church was built in 1905 and due to the decline in numbers it was decided to close its doors forever.

Dad, sister, sister in law, uncle, auntie, cousin and myself attended the service and de consecration yesterday following your typical rural community afternoon tea.

And no its not a panoramic camera shot, the floor really does slope away as you see it.

One beautiful old building that has served the community well for 109 years..

Been away from the forum for a while. Things are coming along nicely. Some nice finds. Good to hear Winton went well. I wish my wife shared my motorsports interests; she just tolerates them I think, lol. Nice lyric from HOTFR8!

I'm guessing the floor slopes away from the aisle to stop the parishioners sliding out of the pews before the service is over.

That is a really nice building, many good memories and friendships made there I am sure! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Sean, many memories for sure.

Thanks Ric:thumbup:

Mrs 1/2 Cup is a real petrol head at heart and comes from a family that was and still is involved in boat racing and water skiing. She still takes a keen interest in what I am doing in the shed, V8 Super Cars and even NASCAR.

I still can't get the tune out of my head. HOTFR8 has done a fantastic job..

That carpenter's box is a little ripper, and great work HOTFR8, i love that song.

The box is a rainy day project Lee.
HOTFR8 has done a fantastic job for sure.

Nice old church!

Yes it full of character, very typical of many old Churches around here. Although there are some stunning brick examples as well.

I think you are probably right:thumbup:

No doubt it will be sold off and become a home of some sort as most do.

Most likely it will be sold HOTFR8. I have put in an expression of interest for some of the fixtures that the family would like to keep as mementos with the churches governing body. Most of the stuff that has been generously donated over the years will be offered back to the families that originally presented the item if they can be found.

Thanks for dropping by guys:thumbup:

Okay guys I am doing this post at the risk of being banned from the GJ for ever, but a huge part of the Shed Downunder would not be possible with out the unconditional support I receive from Mrs 1/2 Cup. So its only fitting that I share a little of what she gets up to in her spare time.
Readers of this thread may recall that when she does stuff, she does it in commercial quantities and that can be said of her beading as well as her passion for antique dolls.

She has been busy over the last few weeks she has been preparing for her first market stall this weekend and this is the net result.

View media item 45661
P.S. the market stall also clashes with the annual Numurkah " Show Us Your Wheels " and Swap meet.

http://www.showusyawheels.com.au/

I don't really know just how I get around this issue.

Hmm. Ban him for supporting the Mrs !. Will not happen under my watch.

Ban him for missing an event ! Well I am not going to get to that event so again not going to happen. Can you not organize the race car to to go to the Numerkah event ?
You have to do something.

Reminds me of a fellow here that went to a couple of events here recently and failed to support the better half at a quilt show for only half an hour. Boy did he get a ribbing at the last club meeting as he only had to go for a 1/2 hour and failed but had a pass for the other two events.

Mind you he got a good ribbing from me as he wanted to attend a swap meet with me on the Sunday and it did not happen as he had to help pack up after the quilt show.

Mrs 1/2Cups work looks nice. I guess you will be the main sales person selling them .

Surprised you do not show more peripheral stuff.

I tend to overdo the peripheral stuff, but then it often blends into the garage use/thread.

I wish Mrs 1/2 Cup the best of sales, and no pilfering for her event.

I think many of us on here are only allowed to play in our shops as it gives the girls a bit if free time.

I am still working on my strategic plan for Sunday HOTFR8, not forgetting the last race of the V8 Supercars are on in Sydney and Marcos Ambrose will be making his return and that's not to be missed as well.:headscrat

Thanks Rian,

It is a two way street and I have to admit Mrs 1/2 Cup puts every one elses needs ahead of hers.

Your 100% right, peripheral stuff is great as it is so much a part of what we are:thumbup:

That carpenter's box really has my attention. I agree with the recommendations on preservation. Usually, these things can be brought up to status, and then just preserved.
Think of the work done out of that box. The tools in it sharp as razors. It being carried daily to jobs, and the relaxed time it was used in. Calm minds and slow, deliberate work done by a craftsman.

Mrs. 1/2 cups offerings on the table are quite beautiful. I see nothing whatsoever wrong with highlighting the doing of our spouses. In my shop, I have a craft paint shop, currently two roosters and chicks being redone, along with the "Santa" items being painted up freshly. My poor shop also serves as her Greenhouse during the freezing weather. But ask me if I mind all that and I will certainly say "No, I don't, not a bit". Or at least not too much anyway!

Very interested in the outcome of the tool box!!

Best Regards
Herb

Preservation it will be Herb, but a rainy day job for later. I did give it a dammed good vacuum out and a light going over with a nylon brush and it has cleaned up reasonably well and I can now see what I have to work with.

Mrs 1/2 Cup has been getting her self organised this morning and the detail she has gone to is amazing. This being her first market I have volunteered to help her set up and help out tomorrow though.

Well what an experience, assisting Mrs 1/2 Cup with her first ever market stall..

It started Saturday for me, the market, being an outdoor venue in the city gardens I had suggested that she may need a gazebo shelter just in case. As we don't have one I thought It not a bad investment as she would use it at the dog shows any way.
Mrs 1/2 Cup even with all the detail she went to with her preparation and beading I could detect more than a little anxiety creeping in as it was here first market.

It was at this point in time I had resigned myself to the fact that I was going to miss out on the car show and swap.

http://www.showusyawheels.com.au/

The gazebo, three stores crowded with Saturday afternoon Christmas shoppers later I was blown away by the assortment of styles and options on the market.
I had settled on the brand I was after, being half reasonably built and looked not to bad.

http://www.oztrail.com.au/product-range/camping-outdoors-tents/gazebos-pavilions/results,49-48

Then that where the frustration started to set in decision time??:headscrat

1/2 Cup to part time shop assistant - I need an 10 x 10 OZTRAIL Gazebo please.

Bearing in mind there was none on display and all their stock was packaged and not much point of sale stuff to make my uniformed and impulsive purchase.

Shop assistant to 1/2 Cup - What model were you after???

I usually do my homework prior to purchasing any thing but regrettably not this time.

We have the "Weekender" , the "Deluxe ", the "Standard" the "Corporate" the "Compact" or the "Pavillion" in the size you are after.

1/2 Cup - mmmmm:headscrat long pause:headscrat

Getting a little more than frustrated by this time I said I will have the " Standard " please what ever that is.:headscrat

Options Part time shop assistant to 1/2 Cup We have:

The deluxe wall kit.
Wall kit with window
Wall kit with centre zip and opening.
The Deluxe LED lighting kit.
Mesh wall kit
Plus 50 uv wall kit.
Awning kit
Gazebo base pod kits ( and by the way these are on sale at the moment )
The pole leg cover kit.
:dunno:

And of course, in your choice of colours

Geez.

1/2 Cup to part time shop assistant.

I will take one of those, that, that and that please...

Another 30 minutes at the check out I was out of there.

Fast forward to 7.00 am this morning I went and set up for Mrs 1/2 Cup in the gardens.

View media item 45801
Return trip home after setting up and Mrs 1/2 Cup is still fixing her hair and make up and nowhere near ready so I picked up the rest of her kit and returned to the market with her following some 20 minutes later.

It was then she realise that perhaps she may not have enough table space so a trip to the big green box store to pick up another table was the order of the day.

With the new table she was good to go..

View media item 45802

What a weekend, Mrs 1/2 Cup sold quite a few bits and pieces and we both came away with some very valuable lessons learned.

I worked a flower and garden gift show for my wife.

3 days and 60,000 people later, my nerves were shot.

She moved some product, and tells me it was worth it.

Never again.
