How many do you have ?

HOTFR8 At a guess around 30 permanently connected Stand by gen sets, ranging from 50 kva to 330 kva all with Auto Transfer Switches and a few that are on our SCADA system.

Most of our larger pump stations have provision to connect a unit should the need arise.

Our main office has two 330 kva units that run in parallel.

There would be over 100 smaller portable units floating around as well.

I will post some pics of a temporary installation we did a few years back that used three 1250 kva units connected in parallel with auto sync capability for pumping.

Regards

Looks like I have to ask my question again. How many Gen Sets do you have yourself ?
I take it the plan is to set up your shed with its own back up power supply.

Apologies HOTFR8 - 1/2 Cup - 1/2 Asleep - and only reading 1/2 the question.:eyecrazy:
To answer your question in the correct context I haven't got a gen set as yet.
The 15 kva three phase Kabota unit I was chasing at our workplace surplus auction through Greys went for nearly new price 12 months ago and I have not pursued looking for one since.

I am looking at feeding into the house main switchboard to cover every thing in a power outage.

I was involved in a generator install at an FDA facility upgrade it was a huge Wartsila. It used the same engine a large cruise ship has... Generator work is very interesting.

http://www.wartsila.com/products/ma...ating-sets/generating-sets/wartsila-genset-20

That is one mean gen set Coop:thumbup:

I have to agree that the work is interesting to say the least, we have done many greenfield installs where we have had to integrate them into existing infrastructure which can be a challenge at times.

Thank you for sharing.

The one time you have only been doing things by 1/2's  I suppose if you have the fitting set up ready to just plug in you only need then to find the (suitable) Gen Set. So that is 1/2 done I guess .

I have only run mine a couple of times with power outages here just to back up the solar.

Wow that must be a huge pump(s) needing that amount of juice. Love to see a photo.

Grumblebum, here is a shot of the pump station supplied by 3 - 1250 kva generator sets. During the draught we supplied water to our irrigation systems as the lake level was that low we couldn't gravity feed. Normally the site would be under 20ft of water.

A link to the pumps that were installed.

http://www.batescrew.com/products/pumps/

I took from the air, its a little hazy. I took it through the Perspex of the side window of the plane as I had trouble trying to get the window latched in the open position so I could get a decent pic.
Flying solo in turbulent conditions can be a challenge in itself, try doing that one handed and taking pictures at the same time adds an extra dimensions to your aviation type skills .

Regards.

Did not know you flew. How often do you go flying? What about the location? What Reservoir is that?

Yep HOTFR8 a qualified pilot ( full private ) and can operate in a radar environment and Control Terminal Area ( CTA )
Tullamarine, Essendon, Moorabbin etc.

I have not flown as pilot in command for 5 years as I have to pass a medical and Bi annual flight review to do so. I am pretty keen to have the smell of Avgas again its pretty addictive.

My dads Cessna C 150M that I logged some 200 hours in.

This is the last aircraft I had hours in control under instruction as a 50th birthday present from Mrs 1/2 Cup. nearly 1/2 an hour at the controls, some thing that will live with me forever.
I have always wanted to do a barrel roll and low, low pass in a Mustang and I did it.

 WOW. The best I can say to that was I know what that is like having been a Fire Fighting Air Observer. A skill no doubt you have and do enjoy.

I can not find an emoticon for a dark horse. :dunno:

That set up I recall is one of the biggest pump systems under your juristriction. But then you will confirm that.

I love finding stuff like this out about forum members. Personally I'm happy keeping my feet on the ground :willy_nil ironically I do love a good WWII warbird, even had some nose art from a Boston bomber on our old EK ute.

This is a crazy mate off another forum with his Hydroplane. Balls of steel and a healthy dose of craziness :wtf: He's got some other neat toys as well.

Awesome 1/2 cup, that also explains the aircraft mag subscription a long way back in your thread.

You time as an air observer would have been interesting.

We do have a similar sized pump station at Hattah Lakes near Mildura.

He is a link to the project.

A little like Orienteering but in the air. Hated it on stinking hot days.

HOTFR8 It does get very unpleasant on a hot day with the turbulence and even more so as a passenger. The only time I felt crook in a plane was when I was training and there was the instructor, my self and anther student rotating each leg of the cross country stints. Hot day + turbulence + back seat + big night out prior = 1/2 Cup =one sick little student aviator. Fortunately after we landed and after a little respite I flew home no problems.

Lesson learned.

What a great shed you have. Some of the projects you have is great.

Decent size on that pump station also. This is one pump I was responsible for assemble and test last winter. It is a long shafted pump with a 3.2 MW electrical motor. All made in superduplex with inconel bolts. Pumping 8400 m3 of seawater every hour.

Pedestall. This is where the motor will be mounted when the pump are put in place

Sorry to hijack your thread 1/2 Cup, Vegar that is impressive, but I can not grasp the transport function of that tractor trailer. Where does it pivot around corners?

In GB it's called a trombone trailer because it can be extended or contracted to suit the length of the load. It pivots just the same as a fixed length trailer. Ignore the gap just behind the tractor wheels - that's where it is extended. Look at the piece above the tractor wheels - that's where it pivots.

With summer coming on things are starting to dry out and the landscape is turning brown as the grass dies off. Some of the forested areas retain their green color. The picture above was taken late winter/early spring.

No, the bluestone stays where it landed for sure.

This weekend is a four days long for me as we have a public holiday for the Melbourne Cup Horse Race on Tuesday and I am taking a days leave on Monday, so I am counting the hours till knock off time today.

It is lunch time now, with two meetings behind me thus far today, another mid afternoon and then I am out of here.:3gears:

Have a good one.

With the show trolley finished for Mrs 1/2 Cups friend, an extra few days off work and a bit of a lull in the traffic so to speak, I am getting stuck back into the Underbench drawers to knock yet another project over before I get started on the MG F engine build in earnest.

Missed these updates.

My daily fixes on some threads.

Thanks very much Rian, I am still catching up on your trip.

Looks like some one has a day off today before Melbourne Cup Holiday.
Hope to see a few updates today with some luck.

Yep HOTFR8 spot on:thumbup:

Garden time this morning, we had a storm ( more like a tornado ) here yesterday afternoon. The rain was horizontal at times and a few homes lost roofs just to the north of us. Trees, branches and powerlines down every where. We were lucky not too much damage and no power outage.

Have a great day:thumbup:

…and he flies too! I guess I'm just lazy. I always admire those that live life instead of watching life go by. The people of GJ have been such a motivator and I'm glad I found my way here. Cheers.
