1/2: you are a saint and a very busy guy to say the least. congrats on just surviving the weekend so you could make it to the safe haven of work on Monday.

the Australian Open was a good one to watch so in case you taped it and was going to watch it after work tonight i'll keep the results to myself.

take care and hope your SIL gets settled in somewhere and is moving forward with her life.

Just went over the last three pages I have missed due to family needs here at home, plus all the Thanksgiving holiday weekend shopping, cooking, eating( work gave us 2 days off paid to make it a 4 day weekend!). Looks like you have not had a spare moment! I have been through a home fire as a young teen when my sister broke a bottle of cleaning fluid on the floor while ironing. Gas water heater happened to be in the same area, so you can imagine what happened when the fumes hit the pilot light. This was way before code required gas water heaters to be a minimum of 18" off the floor{Hmm, wonder why?}. I put the fire out myself before the fire crew arrived, but my older sister got our 3 younger sibs out first. Probably the dumbest thing I have ever done, but it confined the fire damage to the laundry area, but the whole home had smoke damage. We were lucky enough to get back in after two days of cleaning and painting. I can still smell the smoke which was down to waist level by the time I got the fire out.

Will the SIL house be rebuilt by insurance or....? Nice job on the head; obviously there is enough material in the valve seats to cut for the larger valves, I take?

xtremek It is sure nice to be back at work today.

GB It was great to kick back last night and reflect on the weekend that was.

drives thank you, I am not sure I could be classified as a saint, but we did get there in the end.
I didn't see one bit of the golf but saw the results on the news this morning, you are right it sounded like a great game till the last hole.

My Sister in Law is still at her friends place and waiting to hear about her application for more permanent accommodation. She is doing well.

Ric, thank you. Some times you do what you have to do. There is often no rhyme nor reason for it. Great to hear that 1 every one was ok and 2. what you did saved the home from further damage.
I am not sure what I would have done in a situation like yours.
At this point the home will be demolished I would say.

I haven't got back to the head in the last week or so. The valves are designed and sized for use in the standard seats although its not real clear in the pics there should be enough meat there to get them sitting right and a little higher than the originals were. That said I am really going to keep an eye on the piston clearance to valve as it is assembled even though the pistons have recesses to accommodate the extra size and lift.

I am guessing that should be broad band ?

What a weekend. :willy_nil

Yep, broad band. I am a terrible typist and even worse on the spell check.

It was full on HOTFR8.

PS I didn't see the Spring Nats. street parade to get pics.

Thanks again Ric.

Have a great day guys.

My eldest and daughter in law attended the 70th anniversary celebrations of the MG TCs

this is her in her uncles car "Henry" at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Briars-Historical-Nature-Park-Mt-Martha/151984144920543

They drove it to the rally with lets say less than perfect brakes and returned home safely.

My eldest in the same car at Sandown Raceway last year.

I prefer to keep quiet unless I have something to say.....

Henry looks like an awesome piece of engineering. I would love to spend an hour, just walking, standing, touching, feeling and even smelling him.

Those cars really capture the essence of a bygone era.

So sorry to hear about the fire, and I will take your advice and try to keep things un-plugged when possible. SUPER happy to hear they are all healthy and good.

1/2: so while you were wiring up his kitchen he was driving that cool old car? doesn't seem fair and hope they brought it by your home to let you drive it around the block. especially since he wants you to work on his engine 24/7.

have a great week

Beautiful MG TC! Interesting exhaust pipe design. I'm assuming some of that configuration is caused by emissions standards? Especially the really long tail pipe after the muffler. Is that typical to sweep up and over the rear fender? It would be nice to have that shortened to dump out just in front of the rear wheel but I'm guessing that would not meet some regulation. Or is this design based on original?

Thank you Sean, I am pleased that you will unplug every thing where possible and more so now with young Shane becoming upwardly mobile.

drives, that's the way it goes at times. I have also had the privilege of working on some of the collection over the last few years.

rmalkowIt is a nice car for sure.
The exhaust arrangement is pretty typical of the era, I don't think a shortened one would make the cut with our requirements in Victoria as much as I would like to.

Thank you Sub The MG is certainly a work horse and gets to club events on a regular basis. I have not driven it yet but no doubt I will get the opportunity in time.

Have a great day every one.:3gears:

Not at all HOTFR8.

The good news is my sister in laws car is back on the road.

The lack of photos of the Spring Nats is enough confirmations.
I doubt I will even make it to that event but the Mack Truck Muster is up your way next year so I think I may put that on the bucket list.

Edited Note: I do know I am not going to be passing through Shepparton for the Yarrawonga event (2016) as I have an event here in Castlemaine that same weekend.

Very cool car. Going over a beautiful car like this in detail gives me a ton of inspiration that is often taken to the camera gear business. The fact that these open cockpit cars were raced sure gives one an appreciation for modern safety advances in the racing world.

I expect you would only try to get into "Henry" wearing shorts once :)

Great looking car. that would be great to see one on the road in action.

Thank you akdiesel the MG is a delight to watch and hear running, simplicity at its best.

Dennis, thank you.

You are right, the detail in the way things were done in that era is just amazing and quite often it is the most simplest of things. Practicality and function in their most basic and raw forms.
There is lots to be learned from that as you have done with your creations.

I pays to exit the cockpit on the other side I can assure you.;)

Thanks for dropping by and have a great day everyone.

Yes I agree as the event I attend in Yarrawonga is a good one.
I have never been to a Mack Muster before so I hope I can get to that.
If coming this way keep me posted. Silly season and all that you know.

On that note a break for you (during the silly season) should give you some QST (Quality Shed Time). ;)

Another farm find, some of you guys may have seen my other thread in relation to this one but I thought I would post it here as well just for interest sake.

Mrs 1/2 Cups sisters' long time partner passed away a few weeks ago and I have been assisting in trying to help with the farm clean out. Amongst the life time collection of accumulated stuff is this gem.

Apparently it goes, an Atlas Copco trailer mounted air compressor from the 50s

Regards..

I worked for an industrial designer by the name of Brooks Stevens for many years and this unit reminds me greatly of a Cleaver-Brooks design that he did for a mobile tank heater back in 1941, very cool!

mayhemtex agree, equipment from that era is just that way to cool and has a style all of its own.

The only issue is that I don't have the room here to see it restored back to its former self.

Herb, Don,

1/2 is one of those guys that does things to perfection. You know if the job is worth doing get stuck into it and do it the right way the first time type of guy. Having visited his great little work shop and seen just how neat and tidy it is I can say it puts my place to shame.

The truth is I am just a normal Aussie bloke in a normal Aussie back yard shed that just loves what he does. I don't always get it right the first time and make some awful blues at times ( they are the things I don't post pics of;))

I do get a great sense of achievement in hitting the mark so to speak.

1/2: you might not get everything right the first time and i'm not sure i agree, but you do eventually because everything i see you do is first cabin top notch stuff. I can only wish to have some of the things i do look as nice as you make yours. your welding table is a piece of art, your carport is the best on GJ and maybe of any I've ever seen and i was a Realtor for 30 years and all your heating, cooling and solar stuff just touches the talent you have.

ok I want to know why the guys are shooting such high scores at this week's golf tournament. did somebody down there get a little warm and turn on the fans or the blowers?

have a great weekend and hope you get a little rest after what you've done the last few weeks.

The PGA at Royal Pines on the Gold Coast would be a tad challenging it does tend to get a little warm and humid there. On of our locals, Jarred Lyle is playing there and is +6 so far. David Lingermerth (Swe) is leader at 3 under, doing well.

I am just tinkering around on the MG head this weekend much to my sons delight.

Have a great one your self.

Hey 1/2, I have been rather "time poor" lately (it would appear that I'm not alone there), but I managed to catch up on your thread again (at work - over a couple of days while I ate my lunch) - but I didn't get time to comment.

It seems that you have been as busy as ever, with the occasional curve ball thrown in - sorry to hear about your SIL's fire, but the main thing is that everyone is okay.

Nice work on the MG head too.
