Steve

My grandfather used to say (& sorry, but I can't remember which one) - You can call me anything you like so long as you don't call me "LATE FOR DINNER".

I still use that to this day.

Lyndon
Up late again..... (Oh well - 7.30pm) :dunno: :rocker: ;)

Lyndon, still here, been out in the Shed for a bit.

My grandfather/s were no different, memories of an era long gone by sadly..

As you say, signing of now for the night...

125mlsCup........ Right. It simply does not have that ring to it.

Any more on the engine rebuild or has work been keeping you busy with all the water flowing all over the place?

HOTFR8, not a lot more on the engine build at the moment and yep work has kept me a little preoccupied at the moment to say the least with all the rain we have had.

Its great to see the storages getting a top up, the prediction is that Tullaroop will fill this evening which all goes well.

Glad I didn't cause a wobbly with that post. I say things at times when I'd be better off shutting my mouth. What's that? "One is better to remain quite and thought a fool then open one's mouth and remove all doubt"

Andy, I caught that 1/3 when Bobby did it and knew where it came from you repeated it.

Hotfr8, 7/16:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti Shouldn't that be what Andrew should go by??????? ( And yes I remember where 1/2 cup originated)

1/2: you start these guys talking about screws and drinks and look what happens. :dunno:

thanks for the links to your web sites on one of your facilities and i'm more a picture and video guy so maybe one thing that DRONE could do is take many and post them up. some of those places you HAVE TO go to get some work done look like perfect vacation spots.

you keep mentioning shipping to Europe or England for the parts for your engine and i hope shipping expenses are a lot less expensive than what we have from US to England. maybe yours are cheaper because you still have a holiday for the Queen and we have Forth of July to remember the day when we told her to stay home. :D

cheers

Don't forget there are 4 nips of scotch in that 120 mls...

GB, me of all people should have cottoned on to that one.

Lets stick with the Imperial measurement and call Andrew - 1/4 Cup:lol:

drives, this thread does tend to get a little bespoked at times, but I wouldn't have it any other way..

I am very fortunate to work where I do, I get to see some truly beautiful places and you are right they are perfect vacation spots..

That reminds me me I must check out how the repairs on the Drone are going today.:dunno:

The postage and freight is pretty reasonable from the UK and you are right in saying we still celebrate the Queens Birthday and that may have a lot to do with it.;)

Just 8 odd hours to go then the week end is here.:3gears:

Now where is that to do list??????

So just how did 1/2 Cup come about, if I may be so bold as to ask?

Andy, the name 1/2 Cup goes way back to when I was working with an electrical switchboard company and every one had a nick name, some of which were not so flattering. Anyway to cut a long story short I like my coffee strong and not so hot that it burns your innards out as you drink it and being off a dairy farm I love my milk.
So my coffee is half milk and that's where it originated from.

Nothing sinister.:lol_hitti

I trust this explains it.

Now back to the topic at hand

The To Do List for this weekend..

The West Wing:

• Lawns.
• Spray weeds that have sprung up like you wouldn’t believe.
• Hang Mrs ½ Cups new curtains.
• Install the new front door lock now that Mrs ½ Cup has finished splashing paint around.

The Shed Downunder:

• Still waiting on the cam shafts and misc. hardware to arrive for the Rover K Series build so there is not a lot to be done on that front.
• To keep the Feng shui going in the shed I have decided to add an under bench drawer system to what is basically the wood work table being modelled off the fabrication bench and the fixed work bench drawer arrangements. This will allow some additional storage for the bulk of my wood working hand tools. So Stainless Drawer fronts it is with timber drawer cases.
• Investigate the vibration issues with my Atom Lawn Edger and I seriously think it may be terminal. I have had the edger for about 12 years now and it is the best thing since sliced bread and has served me well. Millimetre perfect lawn edges every time.
http://www.atomindustries.com/edgers/

Around home:

• Lawns.
• Spray weeds.
• Fertilise the roses.
• Walk Shelby.
• Feed the neighbours fish every two days as they are away for the next week.

Andrew and Amys’ place:

Mrs ½ Cup has, in her infinite wisdom has purchased a new rear entry door for their home as the old one has suffered in the elements. So guess who has had his time donated to install it for them. Both them are away Saturday at Phillip Island but will be home on Sunday.:dunno:

Forward planning:

• Now that the West Wing is nearly there Mrs ½ Cup has expressed her desire to keep moving with what you may remember was the original Storage Solution that consisted of three custom built storage containers alongside the new carport. Watch this space..

One more meeting to go and I am out of here, have a good one...:3gears:

"Feng Shui"? FENG SHUI??????? I know what it means ... but Kevin54 hassled me over Mrs. Slim hanging "frilly border paper" in our attached garage. :puke:
almost like I was gay...:supergay:
Now if we start talking garage feng shui, I can only imagine the rip that might come down on you ... :yikes::scared::scared::eek:

Its bad enough you're littering the garage with jewelry... :lol_hitti

I'm with Andy! Maybe you could relocate to Western Canada???? There's a nice piece of land next door here!

And no kangaroos!:thumbup::thumbup:

Slim Ooops lets just say the Shed Downunder, will have continuity, function and form...;)

Garage jewelry, I am all for it..

It would be too cold for this black duck, I am allergic to snow.:lol_hitti

As for the roos, you get used to them, you guys have Moose's and Bears now that's scary..:scared:

1/2....... If you leave can I put a bid in on the A?

Seriously that to do list is massive.

On the 'Still To Do List' here... Mow Lawns. Problem is with nearly our monthly rain fall here in less than a week it is to wet.

Have a great weekend.

HOTFR8 I think the A would go with me somehow..

I have already knocked over some of the to do list.

West Wing - Lawns done..
The soil was a little damp under foot but they cut well.

I didn't realise that Mrs 1/2 Cup had organised the window furnishing in the West Wing to be installed today so we can strike that off the list.
Clever girl.

As for my Lawn Edger, Mrs 1/2 Cup said tonight, just go and get a new one as your birthday is coming up next month. Yess:thumbup:

So I am kicking goals already and its only Friday night and over the yard arm.

A great start so far, thank you one and all...:thumbup:

Glad to hear you've got a big jump on the TDL. And I must tell you that Moose are very passive (and blind) the don't seem to cause many problems unless you hit one with your vehicle. Bears on the other hand (depending what kind you're dealing with) can be a problem. Here on the east coast we have black bears that generally stay away from people and are relatively harmless. On the west coast they have Grizzly bears that can do quite a number on you if you can to close to them. In general though the Moose and Bears don't cause too many problems. I personally would rather run into a Moose than a skunk. I hope your weekend goes well for you.

And that's a pretty good story Slim has there.:lol_hitti

Winter will be here (US) sooner than we want. Looks like the 1/2CWWB&B will be ready for its first GJ visitors.

So with the carport storage being put back in rotation does this mean the WW shed stays dedicated to Model A rebuilding?

I'll derail this for a story that seems appropriate with the current talk of bears. I was on a hiking trip in Canada when our guide got on the subject of bears. He said you need to carry pepper spray and wear bells on your shoes to keep the bears away. Later he went into how to identify what type of bear was around if you ran across the skat (droppings) of one. He said that black bears usually have berries, seeds, and the like and it was easy to tell. I asked about grizzly skat and how to identify theirs. He told me that was even easier as theirs was full of little bells and smelled like pepper. :lol_hitti

Don't see too many moose or bear where I'm at. The badgers are scary tho...

Just internet pics above, I'd never get close enough to one to take a pic.
They are the size of a small dog but they are all muscle and downright nasty and destructive. They can dig up a cubic meter of dirt out of a hole in about 20 minutes and it can take a couple of 12 gauge rounds to stop them. They don't even flinch at a .22. Fortunately I've never had an encounter with one but there was one digging holes just outside my yard last week that I might have to take care of if he doesn't leave on his own. They dig out gophers and kill them, which is good, but the cure is worse than the ailment because of the mess they leave behind.

As for the cold, I don't blame you. I should've moved a long time ago...
Cheers!

SP: is one of those a HONEY BADGER!! i hear those buggers are worse than a grizzly bear (damn funny and probably true joke by JB ). does one of those look like the one in your backyard digging up the gofers?

OMG you best be moving soon and i can learn to speak UFFDA to get a chance to drive through that gate and call it home.

1/2: there comes up that B&B for GJ again. :dunno:

great to hear you are mowing grass and as your weather is improving ours is heading to wet and cold again so i'll have to read about the sun soon by checking in on you and the SHEDS.

nice that Mrs. 1/2 found a present for you to install now that you know you will be using that door a lot more often visiting your new grandson. also hope you find some torque or square drive screws.

great start on the TO DO list and just curious do you use gloves most of the time when moving stuff or working in the yard. i try to and again forgot to yesterday and almost cut off the end of my thumb. check out the SAFETY 101 thread i started and feel free to add any tips or comments you wish to share there and here's the link that i might have already posted on here.

Well thanks half cup , you too. Yeh , I understand the low profile bit .

I am seriously liking this Whiskas bloke. , just FYI !

Coolabah I just do my own thing pretty much and stay under the radar with no fuss.

Whiskers is a bit of a legend around here being a local media personality.

I hope the show goes well for him..

Episode 3 is out now and I haven't watched it yet.

Dan, Thank you for your insight into the wild life you guys have, unreal.

Our Kangaroos do not have any road sense and will jump in the path of on coming traffic and I is not the first one you hit but is mate that is following behind. Hit them at speed and they make a fair mess of things.

I am off to a good start so far, lots to do and things to keep me busy.

I have duly noted Slims story..

shorty, we are nearly open for business and summer is just around the corner.

The West Wing shed becomes Storage Annex A for the time being, I now have room in the Shed Downunder to actually start working on the Model A time is a killer at the moment.

drives:lol:

The West Wing is getting close to finished, well that said we still have a bit of landscaping to do.
It has a nice warm feel about it now, more a home and not just another house.

As for Andrews back door, I am trying to duck and weave my way out of that one till next weekend if I can. Trust me I won't be too fussed about clocking the screws on this one.;)

No pics either.:lol_hitti

Getting close to the new family additions arrivals and can't wait.

Our work place actually encourages us to use all the protective and safety gear that they provide around the home.

We also have access to safety harnesses for working at heights which come in real handy.

I have my own PPE in any case and do use it all the time.

I hate pain and the sight of blood, especially if it is mine..:shocking:

Thank you one and all for your visits and great pearls of wisdom as usual.

Have a great weekend...

Steve, we left the cold and snowy Hudson Valley in New York for our home in Florida 40 years ago.

The best method for finding a warm place to live is to put a snow shovel on top of everything in the trunk (boot) of your car. Each time you stop for gas, open the trunk and wait for a passerby (hopefully a local). When someone asks "What's that?" you have arrived. Time to find a place to live.

Not one to let the grass grow under my feet, when Mrs 1/2 Cup said it would be a good idea to replace our lawn edger look what followed me home this morning..

A new Atom Lawn Edger, Australian made to boot.

Very nice edger. I watched the company video and those seem to work very well. A good design that has not caught on in the states that I know of. I've been looking to get one myself. I'm getting too old for the flat shovel and lots of footwork style edger. I'm thinking a powered one would make life a lot easier.

rmalkow, they are just the bees knees:thumbup:

It sure beats using a Weed Wacker or shovel to do your edges..

They do a nice and crisp edge, just the way I like it..

1/2: living room looks great. in case you might like to get the soot (blackened smoke on the bricks) off the fireplace i heard COCA COLA was one way. i found this youtube video using baking soda which might be an alternative while looking for the Coke fix.

not that you have to or might have time to, but thought i'd mention it in case you didn't know there was a fairly simple way to clean it up.

loving the edgar and i can't say i've seen anybody using one of those in our area. i actually had an old Craftsman i sold and i use a hand one now even though i could fire up the Honda weedwacker.

hope you are enjoying your weekend.

cheers

BOB: you have so many GREAT things in that brain of yours and just love reading your posts.

drives, thank you and thanks for the heads up on removing the soot:thumbup:

Mrs 1/2 Cup will certainly take that on board..;)

The Lawn Edger has had its first outing and worked well. The only thing was that we have quite a bit of subsoil moisture following recent rain and I should have let dry out as they tend to clog a bit with moist soil.

Mrs 1/2 Cup is down at the Royal Melbourne Agricultural Show helping out friends in the dog show ring. She is not showing the rodents and I am stuck with them today..

Having a bit of QTS today I have stated measuring up for the brackets and Stainless Drawers for my wood work bench today.

View media item 37592
I intend to fit two drawers that will fit all of my wood work hand tools and router bits in them freeing up other spaces in the shed.

They will be built along the same lines with timber cases and stainless fronts as per my under bench units I did recently.

Morning mate,

Whenever I check in on your thread, which happens to be most days, and the pics like above appear, my thoughts tend to be ...."hmmmmmm, I can do that" shortly followed by.... "One day"
