1/2: when Andy spotted the Dewalt drill on the ground and asked if you'd ship it to him my neighbors probably all were wondering why i was laughing so hard. i can't say i get all his humor, but that guy could be on TV if he ever quits feeding cows and building cool stuff in his garage.

great job on both the AC and the deck. OMG that was a major transformation on the deck. did you put a couple L brackets under each tread similar to the ones you put on the sides of the parts attaching the stairs to the deck? We typically leave our decks open under our decks, but definitely a good idea to close them off from snakes and other critters you might have in your part of the world.

if the work inside the GJ B&B (yes i'm thinking that might be the new name) is half as good as that roof mount i'll have to agree that is a TOP JOB. i'd love a unit like that at our house now that we are getting summer temps in the 90's for a month or two or three instead of the odd year when it got that hot for more than a week.

sounds like everything is going good with #3 and his mom and you are getting a ton of stuff done for supposedly taking a week off to play.

cheers

1/2 Nice job on the handrails! Looks real pretty, above par. But I think you wasted your money on the steps, they hardly show up at all.

And I think I found my missing DeWalt screw gun, I see it there on the ground.:rocker: I'd come get it but sometimes it seems like we live half a world away. Would it be much trouble for you to post it to me?
Andy,

That is some funny stuff you got there!!!

Dan, thank you..

I have to agree with you on that score, Andy certainly leaves me in his tracks..:lol_hitti

The next project:headscrat Let me ponder that one for a bit.

I do know that there is a few that I need to wrap up first:

. The West Wing

Clean and oil the deck.
Garden detail and make over.
Carport - still waiting on a quotation for that.
Front and rear veranda concrete spray paving - again waiting on the contractor to set a date..
We have the Property Manager here tomorrow to take some pictures of the place, so there is a little work inside to do in preparation for that.

. The Rover K Series build.

Sadly its been on the back burner due to recent events in the family, any way I know Andrew is keen to get moving with that:thumbup:

Cam timing.
Close it all up ready to install in the car..

. The Shed Downunder:

Bench drawer stainless steel fronts, still waiting on them.
Build a Traffic light controller for the lights I brought a couple of weeks ago.

And the list goes on:thumbup:

drives, the truth is Andy was most likely deadly serious.:lol_hitti

The tread is nice and solid, it came as a kit and is rebated to take each tread, then screwed together with s/s techs .

https://www.bunnings.com.au/wilmaplex-treated-pine-ezistep-2-step-stringer-kit_p0052933

Closing in the space under the deck just tidies things up a bit, for the most part we don't have snakes in town here but that said it could happen.

We are pretty happy with how things are coming along with the West Wing and I figure that if we do the hard yards now its a win win down the track.

Evaporative Air conditioning has come a long way now, the only draw back is that they do not work well in humid environments. Fortunately ours is for the most part a dry heat..

All's well with Amy, Andrew and young Aiden still to find out when they leave hospital and settle back home..

Steve,

Congratulations on grandchild number 3!!! One of my favorite uncle's name was Robert Bruce.

Joe

Joe-R, Thank you..

Robert is fairly prominent in the family and goes back many generations, we are privileged to have the opportunity to carry that on..

Andy,

That is some funny stuff you got there!!!

Joe

Joe-R You can't wipe the smile off my face every time I think of it....:lol_hitti

Thank one and all, have a great evening..

1/2: i know you are great at getting at a project and getting it done, but the steps just seemed way too easy. nicely done finding those for a good price that look and probably work great.

the railings look great too. i was amazed at the transformation of that little deck in less than 48 hours.

yep i'm still smiling about the Dewalt comments by Andy. I guess if you don't ask you never know if someone is willing to part with a tool or something you like with all the stuff Andy has i bet that attitude has served him well.

cheers and have another great day off while i ORGANIZE. you might want to take a peak in the Woodworking 101 thread and see the boat car a member built, some cool flint lock guns (are they legal to post on GJ) and TerryH's cool shop among all the educational stuff of course if you have time to.

drives, thank you yet again..

It is amazing what can be done now a days to enhance something for not a whole lot of cost and just a little elbow grease so to speak.

Andy would make a fantastic salesman..:lol_hitti

Never fear I take in all that has been posted in Woodworking 101 daily.

I am just amazed at the talent and craftsmanship and not forgetting the awesome setups that are out there in GJ land.

Andy, four steps forward today..:3gears:

The evaporative air conditioner was installed today as well, it works a treat.

Just in time for Summer..

Ducted to every room, it will be supplemented by the existing split.

The ac guys did a top job:thumbup:

Thank you for your visit and have a good one..

1/2 Looks great! We used to call evaporative coolers "swamp coolers". Like you noted later they don't work good with humidity. I've been in houses with the windows sweating inside, the air clammy, more uncomfortable than outside. Our first auto air conditioner was an evaporative cooler that fit in the window and worked on ram effect of moving air and worked great in our trip across the desert. Our first house in the Mojave Desert had an evaporative cooler on the roof, and standing under it as a child I could feel drops of water hitting me. But the carpet never got wet. It kept the house COLD. So it's all in the humidity, and they are economical to operate.

I guess you might as well keep my drill. I see it caused a little ruckus. You'll enjoy it. As luck would have it, I found one just like it in my shop. I guess one of my friends left it, but I have no idea who it could have been. If he comes looking for it I'll just send him to you.

The baseboards wouldn't keep a snake out anyway :eyecrazy:

Does look great now, I look forward to seeing the cleaned up and oiled end product

We used to do that to our decks on rental property. Keeps the renters from retrieving change the drop through the cracks. Then between renters you crawl under and get your stash.

Good thinking 1/2!:thumbup::thumbup:

1/2: not sure you've seen Madhatter10-6's thread, but he is going to re build a Lamborguini (sp?) engine with 700-1000 HP. not sure exactly how that compares to Andrew's that you are building, but thought you might want to take a peak at his thread in case you hadn't seen it before. he also made his entire basement a garage and tiled the floor and he can fit 7 or so cars in it which is interesting in it's own right. here's the link and he seems to know a bit about souping up engines in small cars so maybe a good member to bounce a question off of if you might have any while putting your engine in Andrew's car.

Steve, you are right there, snakes go any where..:shocking:

Thank you, I did start on the pressure wash last night. Man is that going to take some time.. I think first up I will get some deck clean as I was just using the washer but what little I did came up ok.

It has never been cleaned or oiled for that matter since it was installed..:shocking:

Andy, we call an evap similar out here and they are known as "swampies"

I have had it running the last 48 hours on low jut to see how it performs.

Now that's another reason we elected to go with an evap is the fact that they are economical to run.

We still have the original small split system in the kitchen/family room if its needed..

I tip my hat to you sir for you generous offer an letting me keep your drill:bowdown:

Now that is truly a fantastic gesture..

Great to read that you found another drill as I was almost ready to post the one that you left.;)

We do take you seriously, well:headscrat mostly anyway.

Let me ponder the above for a moment...:willy_nil

All,

A bit of an update:

We have been detailing the West Wing in preparation for the Property Managers photo shoot today.

. Lawns.
. Edges.
. Gardens.
. Windows cleaned.
. Vacuuming inside.
. and just generally putting the finishing touches to the place.
. I will order a small truck load of 3/4" blue stone today to finish of the garden beds, this is similar to what I have done here.

Another quick visit to the hospital yesterday afternoon with my Dad to see Amy and Aiden they are due to be released today..
All going well..

I have neglected to mention the Evie ( Australian Silky Terrier ) who reached her Australian Title last year is in pup to Johnny an import from Europe.

View media item 40614
Johnny has just achieved his Supreme Title here in Australia following on his success in Europe..

http://www.balkanakennels.org/dog.asp?dog=88847

Evie is due in a few weeks so no doubt there will be more rodents to contend with for a bit..:willy_nil

Due to my sudden departure from work this week I have been keeping an eye on my work emails as we have quite a bit going on that you need to keep on top of otherwise this can and do go pear shaped very quickly.:shocking:

Any way amongst the 97 emails in four days ( 50% being corporate communications and deleted ) :willy_nil were a couple of note worthy calender invites:

. Drone training for a couple of days in two weeks time.:rocker:

. Three days of Auto Cad Electrical training in early December..

. You may remember in 2014 I was awarded the Technical Support Person of the Year which is a fantastic honour to be recognised by your peers and one humbling experience working for a company that has nearly 800 employees.
I have again been nominated this year again, not sure for what :dunno:and have to attend a formal dinner and presentation in mid December.

Looking forward to some QST this week end...

Have a good one..

Andy please do stop it I am blushing right now..

Seriously thank you.

Greatness, this Black Duck, never..

PS I am not sure where the nomination came from:dunno: as I do tend to speak my mind and step on toes at times (for the right reasons I might add)

Puppies now ! I feel sorry for poor Shevie.

Talk about a busy place with everything happening.

HOTFR8, yep it never stops.:willy_nil

The photo shoot in the West Wing with the Property Manager went well this morning with some great feed back received from them and duly noted..

Makes for an interesting thread!

Riven, thanks for dropping by and kind comments.

1/2: great news about the job KUDOS and you'll have to let us know what new gold star you acheived. BTW did i mention I'd like to work at a place where they have drones, trips to vacation spots, you can use their really cool tools and now they give awards too.

so your oldest Rodent is pregnant again? the European the dad to this group or the same dad as your rodents you are chasing around your place now?

best of luck on the new tenant and if i was renting and that place came up for rent i'd run and even lose my old deposit to rent it.

i saw you posted up an outlet over on Andy's thread, but if you posted a picture of his and your service panel alongside each other what a difference that would be. they both work and both of you get more work done that all of us so enjoy your weekend and hope the rodents don't cause you too much grief.

cheers

drives, thank you..

I have to admit ours is a great place to work.

http://www.g-mwater.com.au/

PS there is always Positions Vacant..;)

Evie and the rodents, Jacky and Stevie are from a totally different lines. All is well.

We are really getting to the pointy end with the West Wing now and I have to get my backside into gear and close out a few outstanding jobs this week end as follows:

. Order a load of 3/4 " blue stone and finish off the garden beds and planters.
. I stripped the split AC evaporator last night and gave it a real good clean so I have to put that back together this morning.
. Remove and reinstall the ducted gas heater thermostat as it was put in not level and has been annoying me like you wouldn't believe.
. Still haven't heard back from the Carport guy with a quote, so I need to follow up on that one.
. The front and rear concrete veranda floors will be sand blasted on Tuesday in preparation for an epoxy coating as the current paving paint is all lifting and really lets the place down.
. Finish cleaning and oiling the deck area.

I have updated Andy's thread, very interesting..

Have a great weekend and thank you for your visit..

I looked at your company's openings a while back when you first posted and began dreaming of project management. But, alas, the commute would be a bit. I could retrieve my missing drill however:headscrat

I'm thinking you could take the one you bought back for a refund and use this one. After all, it is a rental unit.

Let me know.

Lyndon,

The applications are on the Web site...

We quite often have maintenance planners positions advertised?
:dunno:

Understand..

Steve, I didn't see an opening for a sandwich maker.

Bob, I am sure there would be something to suit your skills and talents.

Just remember one thing gentlemen at times I am on the interview panel for positions vacant at work..;)

Have a great day and thanks for dropping by..

All,

I was on the shovel for the best part of yesterday in the West Wings garden.

If you remember this is what it was like when we bought it.

Still a Work in Progress

I had 3 yards of 3/4 " Bluestone rock plus another 1/2 yard of 2 1/2 " of Bluestone beaching delivered yesterday morning and spent the best part of the day detailing the garden beds front and back..

We are getting there...

Now back to the shovel..

1/2: i didn't see GREETER on the job list either and Walmart just offered me a job that is a bit closer that i might have to take so i can buy some more tools. :bounce:

OMG your WEST WING or GJ's B&B keeps looking better and i'm sure if you needed a new job you could be a TV host of AUSSIE'S FLIPPERS and put the house up for sale and move on. i'm still hoping for a B&B and the stories, but a good solid renter for years to come might make Mrs. 1/2 and you happiest. once the GJ B&B is rented and situated i guess with all the free time you'll have you can maybe finally play in your new garage, build another one back there or maybe by the house on the other side. so many fine options.

Andy just keeps us on our toes doesn't he? i also bet he could wire that thing up and have it working in a day. did you see his latest rusty cool find?

so are you able to take the DRONE home and maybe take a few flyover pictures of 1/2's real estate aquisitions?

hope you are enjoying your Sunday!!

drives, unfortunately we don't do greeters

A mate of mine actually took on an afterhours part time job at Bunnings Big Box Store just for that reason, the staff discount..

Both of us are pretty happy with how the West Wing has come up, its been worth the effort. The problem I have now is the West Wing honey dos :

. Perhaps one of those would go well there.:headscrat

. We should look at one of those.:headscrat

. It would nice if we did this ( "yeah right" say 1/2 Cup in inaudible tones )

. We should replace this.:headscrat

. I would like one of those there.:headscrat

. We should remove that tree.:headscrat

. Can you do this.:headscrat

. Can you do that.:headscrat

1/2 Cups response to Mrs 1/2 Cup "I have a to do list, you know I like my to do lists. How about including it on my to do list". Knowing that she will not write anything down, it goes off the radar... well some times..

I did see Andy's BARN YARD find, that's cool..

As for the drone pics that would be an emphatic no from the boss let me tell you...

Back to the shovel..and have a great day..

1/2: when i was growing up being a greeter at Sears for the Craftsman discount would have been ok cause their tools in the 60's and early 70's were pretty decent. i can't recall the last time i was in a Wally Mart so maybe one or two times ever so probably don't need a discount so i'll keep looking for that perfect job.

wish i was closer cause shoveling gravel into a wheelbarrow is actually good exercise. good luck with that.

speaking of shovels did you know putting a 5 gallon bucket half full of sand with maybe a quart or two of oil in it is good for cleaning and servicing shovels? i didn't either until i just read a member does that to care for his and he also puts BLO on the wood handles.

hope you survive moving the gravel, but really hope you can avoid Mrs. 1/2's To do's. maybe anohter trip to see Granson #3 and #1 would keep her busy?

cheers

Andy, a bloke like yourself and being engineering type person, with a farming background would fit in well here.

And you fit the Key Selection Criteria.

Let me put it this way the company supplies the lot :thumbup:

The only things I supply to go to work are the following:

. Socks.

. Underwear ( cleaned daily of course )

. Handkerchief.

. Lunch ( occasionally we get a freebee )

Note to file: the freebee lunch is limited to 1. 5 sandwiches per person.. seriously its part of our cost cutting initiatives :willy_nil

That's it

The company supplies, but not limited to the following:

. Car with private use..:3gears:

. Uniform.

. Footwear.

. Personal Protective clothing. including gumboots.

. Lap top.

. GPS.

. Pens / pencils

. Highlighters

. Paper , we love paper..

. Facial tissues.

. Sun screen.

. Mobile phone.

. Coffee, tea, milk.

. Office accommodation.

. Four weeks annual leave.

. Numerous public holidays

. 9.5 % PA superannuation contribution

. Training.

. Personal development ( not that you need any of that );)

. All the tools you would ever want, including Dewalt Battery drills

. Tools include but not limited to the following

. Prime mover

. Excavator.

. Plasma.

. Full work shop facilities.

. Travel tower.

. Manitou and fork lift. ( sorry Bob )

. Drones.
,
. Diagnostic equipment.

. Small tools.

. And did I mention Dewalt Battery drills????:dunno:

So as you can see its a work place of choice..

Well that's what they say anyway..:dunno:

PS the application forms are included..;););)

WOW! That's worth repeating. So I assume you like it there:bounce:

If I was a bit younger I might just give them a go. I did work for WorleyParsons for a while, I guess they are based in Sydney and Melbourne. I might have been too much of an independent thinker for them:eyecrazy:

I have some serious questions for a change. Must you supply a handkerchief? (I typically use my sleeve, but if it is a Company sleeve...:dunno: We're talking real farmer here)

Do they check for the daily underwear cleaning requirement? (Anybody down there use the four day method? Backwards the second day, then inside out, then backwards again. Some people can get eight days...:willy_nil)

I guess I would need a CV. Can you get them at a cv joint? If they don't like yours do you get a cv shaft?

Paper, I love paper too. A word about your carbon footprint. I realized that most all of the paper I discard goes into a land fill. So, that is carbon sequestration. Therefore, to be green, I would always print eleven and throw ten in the trash. The more paper I use, the more trees get planted to replace those cut so more and more carbon removed from the atmosphere...

I feel a bit of a hero.

You are quite welcome.

drives,

All the best looking for that perfect job..;)

Shovelling gravel in the heat is no fun so I am pacing myself, drinking plenty of water and working in the shade as much as possible.

I am on an extended lunch break now.

You are right it is great exercise, no pain no gain..

Shovel care, that's one I was taught at a very early age by my Grand father and still do it to this day..

The process is similar to yours but the only difference being I drill a 5/16 hole at the top of the handle, fill it with Linseed oil then cap it with a linseed based wood putty then leave it stand up right for a few days then repeat it over.

There is nothing nicer than using a well maintained shovel if you are going to put your body through that sort of torture you might as well have good equipment and that applies to all tools as well.

Mrs 1/2 Cups whims can be hard work at times:willy_nil

She is away today so a least peace and tranquility prevails at the moment.

I am sure Aiden will get plenty of her attention..;)

Andrew called in this morning with young Aiden in tow ( Amy was shopping ) The little lad is settling in well at home after his second night there..

Andy, Yep, I do like my work:3gears: how could I not??

Speaking of which I am back there tomorrow after seven days off..

Worley Parsons are still big in this neck of the woods.

http://www.worleyparsons.com/GlobalPresence/ANZ/Pages/default.aspx

Independent thinkers are welcome at my work even more so in the last few years to come up with creative solutions and implement them.

No I don't have to supply a Hanky chief, it just more out of habit that I do as you never know when you may need one, they make great wound dressings and even better grease rags :D

Underwear checks are not usually required at work. However the four or eight day options are left to the individual but this also breeches our all inclusiveness people policy at times where we can not marginalise our staff for doing so..:bounce:
Mum was pretty strict on the one day turn around..old habits die hard.

Don't get me started on the paper thing ( does my head in ) but I should put your suggestion up as an environmental initiative at work and see how that goes down...:lol_hitti

Any way, print off a copy or 10 of the Job Application form..have a read, bin nine and let me know what you think??

A CV joint is just fine for our HR department.. they accepted mine, with a warning they don't do torn boots..

Thank you gentlemen, have a great day..

Extended lunch is over and back to the shovel...

Far out Steve the house looks great. You and your wife should be proud. It's always good to look at before and after shots of your achievements.
I hope you got all the gravel moved.
Even though your back to work tomorrow I'm sure you have Christmas holidays booked in.

Aaron thank you.

I now have access to the back veranda and I am buggered. There is still some gravel left to move but that can wait till next weekend..

Thanks for the reminder I should request some leave over Christmas.

Have a good one and thank you for your visit..
