It sure does you credit 1/2. I like to see when someone's heart and soul are into it. Well done.

Terrick, thank you:bowdown:

All I can say to that is I try and have a crack. I have been doing it as if was my own and would not have it any other way..

I haven't been able to wipe the smile of Andrews face, not that I would want to in any case..

More QST tonight and ticked off a few more of the To Do List on the beast..

Cheers

Engine looks great 1/2 Cup!

The engine looks great and like a real hottie. Imagine that little gem turned in the north/south direction and hiding under the hood of a lowered Model A roadster hot rod!! :3gears:

Hmmmm….. maybe you need to build another and start a new project.

That's a popular option for Midgets and Sprites, there's at least 2 different companies who offer conversion parts for that swap. Lighter than the factory A Series, and easily double the power of a well modified A Series engine? Makes a lot of sense!

Steve, no need for me to say it but I will. Top job (as usual) on the engine. I'm not sure but I think I missed a birthday party, so happy belated birthday.

It's been pretty hectic around here and I haven't had much time to devote to the GJ. Hopefully soon I'll be able to be more proactive again.

I hope this week finds you well and brings joy to you and all those around you.

1/2: i had a SORT OF busy weekend, but looks like you had almost as much joy in your days. WELL DONE SIR!!

i know i mentioned this when you first posted a greasy picture of that engine block that i didn't have a clue about this stuff (and i still don't know much), but i've really enjoyed the journey watching you and Andrew maybe even grow closer together with this engine rebuild if that is even possible.

i can hardly wait to hear you and maybe see the faces of you and Andrew starting that up in his car.

i put a new little picture in my sig line so you might want to check out the fuzzy pics i posted. i blamed the camera, but it might have maybe been a little water coming from my eyes.

congrats on the engine progress and maybe if you still have the greasy first picture of Andrew's engine when he dropped it off for a before and after i bet it might even make you smile a bit more. WELL DONE!!]

that storage project should be fun. also in case you haven't seen it Don Long made his paint booth out of something about that size. just saying if you haven't seen is there might be an alternate plan to just storage for that cool container.

Steve

That engine sure is the ducks nuts, isn't it.

Looking forward to seeing it in a car, on a track.

Lyndon
About nigh nigh time :hellobye: :hellobye:

Lyndon, thank you…

Me to, in fact I can’ t wait to turn the key for the first time..:3gears:

I have been spending my evenings in the shed of late just ticking of all those ancillary bits and pieces and methodically going through the two volumes of Rover workshop manual as this is one complicated little beast.

I can imagine it would be a popular conversion, I know Lotus use them in the Elise..

You certainly have your hands full from what I read.

It is just another busy week here at work but it’s been pretty manageable and very rewarding I must say as our team works well together.
We are trying to get at least a morning per week with the Drone and that is a welcome break from meetings, emails, design reviews and contractual stuff, a chance to have some great fun at work.:rocker:

drives, you have had a huge couple of months, not just last week end and I tip my hat to you Sir for a job well done.:bowdown:

I can understand shedding the odd tear at your daughter’s wedding as it is a very emotional time for all.

I do look back on the pictures of Andrews engine when he first dropped it off and think it has taken a huge amount of my time but it has been worth the effort considering the other projects ie the West Wing, the odd drawer or two, the honey dos, work and the non negotiables of life.

What was presented.

One only well worn Rover K Series engine:

I have been following Dons thread and do remember his container conversion to a blast booth as I recall and there are many fine examples on the GJ as well. A container is certainly an option that I have considered but they would take just as much work to cut and shunt them as it would to build one that fits the space constraints I have here. The other plus in building my own is the fact that I will be able keep the flow and feel of the carport build going.

Thank you one and all, have a great day..

Always nice to look back and reflect!

That is one of the things I like best about GJ: you're ability to look back and see where you were at a specific period in time. When you think you're not getting much done it helps to see where you've been.

You'll be lost without the Rover to greet you every night:D

One productive week end...:rocker:

Note to file and warning: No fasteners were clocked in its assembly..

Wow Steve! That's gorgeous!

For this application, "correct torque" beats "clocked" any day.

dw _ riley thank you.

I am amazed at just how much like a Mini the Rover K series are, many of the bits are stampeded MOWOG and I am sure would fit a Mini.. go figure..

Regards

MOWOG??? (Mo)rris (Wo)lseley M(G)?

MG got "G" because Morris already took "M"?

I'd forgotten what MOWOG meant... thanks Google.

I learnt to drive in a Mini Clubman (which was interesting, as I'm 6'3", but so much fun!). It was officially painted in "Camino Gold", which we affectionately called "Australian Racing Brown"

Andy, it certainly is great to reflect. its much like keeping a diary for all to see and it can be pretty sobering..

Rover K Series, what Rover K Series...:willy_nil
I am sure there will be some after care required.

There is another build or two in the winds so I am told but I would really like to concentrate on my stuff for a refreshing change. May be I should just retire and have seven Saturdays in a row..:dunno:

Mat, thank you.
We are pretty pleased with the outcome, my only hope it goes as good as it looks..

Clocking screws on this baby was not an option...;)

Unreal, my first roadworthy car that I actually got my licence in was a 1963 Mini 850 with the obligatory sliding windows. It did not stay that way for long when I fitted a 1275 Cooper S engine and all syncro gearbox, now that was fun..:3gears:

I can highly recommend retirement - if - you have lots of things you want to do. There are those who wish they had not retired, and I feel for them.

Saturday tomorrow!!:rocker::rocker:

Andy, I can't wait for retirement let me tell you.

I still enjoy what I do at work, that said we do have some Transition to Retirement plans in place at work and there is quite a number that work say three days a week and that is very tempting let me tell you..

I agree with the others... almost a shame to cover that up!:thumbup:

shopnut, thank you:thumbup: I certainly would be a shame to cover the engine up, one consolation though it has been getting a lot of coverage in Andrew's Social Media stuff and his contacts within the MG fraternity so I don't think the bonnet is likely to be closed in the pits any time soon.

Imagine all that QST. But then I can also imagine the Boss not being happy if he lost his trained up drone pilot.

HOTFR8, I know, I think I will hang around work for a bit as it is busy but enjoyable at the same time.
Our board and the State government have just approved the Done for commercial use today so its onwards and upwards now.:thumbup:

We have our first commercial Drone flight tomorrow morning to complete some horizontal mapping on a stock and domestic water storage we operate. When I say small it is about the size of 50 Olympic swimming pools which we are investigating installing floating solar panels to recover the operational cost of pumped water.

Looking forward to that..:3gears:

1/2: i hope Andrew hasn't been reading your thread lately where everybody wants to make a table or BBQ out of his very cool engine that you both are working on. like i mentioned i've seen a lot of shows on TV where they are putting new engines in Ferrari's, Porches, Lotus and the like and your engine is right up there with the BLING factor that is for certain. WELL DONE!!

did i hear mention of some DRONE FLYING yesterday? also congrats again for taking on this high tech project and for getting the paperwork and training done so you are a full time licensed pilot.

any pictures??

have a great day 1/2

Drives, Andrew may think differently but he would certainly get a chuckle out of using his engine as a coffee table and that would be followed by a firm " NO "

Thank you again..

We had a good few hours on the Drone yesterday completing our first “ official “ horizontal survey flight. It consisted of mapping one of our small stock and domestic water storages and it associated pump station ( an area of about a square mile ) with the aim being to look at a number of options to locate a suitable site to install a ground mounted solar PV system. The system will be fairly substantial in size and is one of many we have in the planning stage in order to meet the emissions targets into the future.

We are still battling with our ICT dept in regards to data processing and network security issues. Currently the data capture from the Drone is completed on a standalone computer, even though I have the software to do so on this lap top I still can’t do anything with it unless I get admin rights which is just so frustrating at the moment. I will certainly share images when I am able to..

Just a few short hours to go now until I am out of here and the start of the week end. To be honest I have not put a lot of thought into the To Do List as yet as I have been a little pre occupied with work this week.

I trust your day / evening is going well..

I had said for several years if I could always have a four day weekend I would keep working. After all these years they really didn't need me all week doing mundane tasks at times. My last "job" I worked occasionally for a guy I trained. He would email me a document and I would scan through it while watching TV with my wife. I would list my questions and concerns which took very little effort on my part but provided the company with my full input as though I were a full time employee. I did none of the followup or issue resolution, there were plenty of employees who could do that. Then they would pass the final document back to me and I would make another set of comments. Then it was up to them, consider my comments or ignore them. It hardly mattered to me, they had my input and if they chose a different path that's OK. Unfortunately I received several "wish we'd listened to you" comments.:lol_hitti

My guy changed jobs and the new guy thought my hourly rate was exorbitant. Which it was, but for two or three hours per week it was a bargain. I declined to help out at my guy's new company as I got real busy cleaning up my shop...

If you can work three days per week you can let the young guys do the part you don't relish.

Another comment on retirement. I've found that thrifty people never seem to find the right time to spend their retirement savings. It becomes a family legacy. So if you don't need it, why do you work longer to grow it?

Not that you asked:willy_nil

Andy, now that's is just spot on:thumbup:

Similar issues here with the Transition to Retirement or some of our retired employees return as "consultants" on huge hourly rates.

My view of the world in regards to where I work is to mentor and really get stuck into succession planning in a big way, pass on that knowledge and help pave the way for their careers ( our company is now recognising the importance in this ) but done in such a way that that they are not spoon feed so to speak.

As I near retirement I feel that personally I am still developing and learning all the time, it just never stops but like yourself we have both done the hard yards.

Let me tell you there will be no familly legacy here, I am not that thrifty.

1/2: while you say you don't have a lot to pass on as your LEGACY i respectfully disagree. first of all you have passed on lifetime skills to both your boys and i'm sure a lot of their friends and yours that will be talked about years after you are gone not to mention all the fun times with your grandsons coming up.

a couple homes, some cool old cars and an old 100+ year old wagon, and a ton of cool old and new tools along with some awesome benches i'd love to own and i already own more than a few.

you sir have SKILLS and even better than that you have a great personality that keeps the likes of me and a lot of others smiling almost daily.

I know we are OLD, but we still have a thing or to get done and hopefully many years to do them.

cheers and hope your weekend was productive and or fun!!

Holding my breath for an update.

Turning blue...

Apologies Andy, take a deep breath now..;)

When Mrs 1/2 Cup gets a bee in her bonnet and a tape measure in hand its time to be scared, real scared:scared:

She was on a mission this week end and lets say it was an Autumn Clean, rearrange and reorganise of the cupboards at home.

So my QST this weekend was randomly ( just as I was settling in to the shed ) interrupted with can you move this, I need a ladder here, restack this, can you clean this, that goes in the recycle, that goes there, can you take that into the shed, can you dust that with the air compressor all with a smile and a please I might add.

So there is not a whole heap to update really unless you like to see pictures of a home that looks like a bomb hit it:dunno: She is on good organiser I must say.

I did manage to get the lawns and gardens done and between visitors managed to get a bit more done on the MG F engine wiring loom that I am tiding up big time as it is all over the place. A little bit frustrating still waiting for those small bits and pieces to arrive from the UK, we seem to be placing an order on a weekly basis, anyway - nearly there..

So that was my weekend in a nut shell..

Thank you one and all, have a good one..

drives, wow I am really humbled.

To be honest I never thought of it in the context you have put it. Personally if just one person takes away one thing or one lesson learned from what I have done then I am a happy chappy:thumbup:

The weekend was productive and fun only the most of it was inside our home....

Thank you again...

That is FUNNY!

Sean, not so funny when you are on the other end of the tape measure.:lol_hitti

Hey, I know how you feel, DW has a small 3m tape in her handbag at all times.

Terrick, I made the fatal mistake of buying Mrs 1/2 Cup a pink tape measure some years back:willy_nil

Seriously I shouldn't moan about it as she does a top job in organizing space. The Shed Downunder is where the line is drawn in the sand however ( I have the only key );)

The was discussion last week that she has a crack at Andrews shed:dunno: I don't know how that will go down..:dunno:

Thank you one and all, have a great day..

I have never dealt with a wife with a tape measure. My hat is off to you sir!!:bowdown::bowdown:

The "legacy" thing is what financial advisors came up with when they started encountering folks who already have enough and didn't really need the financial advisor. Fortunately I'm not in that boat, either one, no financial legacy to leave and no financial advisor I need:willy_nil

Andy, it is about the application of a tape measure..:lol_hitti

More moving STUFF for Mrs 1/2 Cup tonight, trust me she is a lady on a mission...:3gears: I had trouble seeking some respite after work in the Shed Downunder

Anyway she is doing a great job so I can't complain..

I have to agree no financial legacy and no advisor with the exception of our superannuation type people that are a great help to maximising your outcome and its FREE to members..

Out here our employers compulsory contribute 9.5 % of your annual income to our retirement benefit annually, and you can do a pre tax voluntary contribution as well if you so choose..

I think I have said this before "I will have to work till I am 90 to afford retirement" ;)

Obviously no intention to cast personal aspersions here, but when I think of "wife with a tape measure" I'm thinking the potential like "drunk with a gun". You're just not sure which way they are going and how much it may hurt.:willy_nil

Or maybe they are just going to put it away:lol_hitti

Seriously I would much ratherMrs 1/2 Cup have a tape measure than not that way she can answer her own questions like "can I fit this piece of furniture here? " or "what do you think ? "

1/2: since we both went for the upgrades and full options with the wive's choices it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that you approve of Mrs. 1/2's ownership of a good tape measuring device.

i need to get my backyard project started and finished this spring and summer cause it's scary when my bride opens the blinds and just looks out. her ideas are over the top great, but OMG i need 3 lifetimes to get all the skills needed to do this myself.

have a great day and hope you are getting more DRONE time this week to fill some of those fun days at your personal SALT MINES at work.

cheers
