Access to work on a Sunday must be handy at times. Nasty wind here at present so I wonder if we are in for a change in the weather ?

HOTFR8, I have 24/7 access to work which is mighty handy.:rocker:

Its blowing a gale here now and I can only imagine what it would be like at the Ballarat Swap today.

http://www.ballaratswapmeet.com.au/

Sadly no rain..

Regards

We have had a warm day here but have had that nasty wind as well. Great for hosing done places to get rid of dust dirt and cobwebs.

HOTFR8, I was not aware that it only ran for two days..:dunno:

When the combined Rotary Clubs took over the event they moved it to Sat & Sun, then after they found Sun was no good they tried Fri & Sat and left it at that. All on the web site. This would be the 3rd year I believe with the combined Ballarat Rotary clubs running it and the 2nd or 3rd year in the new location across the road from the old site.

Hey Steve, I've been MIA again and have been trying to catch up with a few threads....

I went back a few pages and it sounds like you're back at work - that's great news.
Also good to hear that your vocal chords are healing on their own - leave the Botox to the celebrities, I reckon.

Great job with the saw.

Hey Simon, it seems unusual for a two-day swap to be Friday and Saturday - do they get many people on the Friday? :headscrat

Also unusual for a swap to be run by a non-automotive type club too I would think.

Not wanting to side track 1/2's topic but to explain. It used to be a 3 day event until management found by Sunday late morning it was over. Fast forward the management decided to pull out (it was run as a business) due to lack of support by the Ballarat City Council and the land being required for the ring road. The Rotary Clubs could see the need for the event and dealt with many things and took over the event.

EDIT: This will tell you more. http://www.ballaratswapmeet.com.au/

Mark, thank you..:thumbup::thumbup:

Back at work, this week its four full days..

I don't relish the thought of a needle being shoved down my nose to the vocal chords one bit, so I have had a win..

I am pleased with how the cold saw has come up. I still have a little more tuning to get the cuts just right however its not too bad even now.

Steve....

Lynn, thank as well:thumbup::thumbup:

A Brobo cuts well and your right as we have two other makes at work and the Brobo is a cut above the rest..
(no pun intended )

Thank one and all, have a good one..

All, Drone training day 1 on the Matrice 210 RTK

The beast in flight..

We completed our theory exam this morning and spent the afternoon familiarizing our selves in the Drones capabilities and handling .

The controls are almost identical to any DJI product so it made the transition from our Phantom fairly easy.

With a max take off weight of almost 14 pounds it can carry a reasonable pay load ( camera config. dependant )

In Sports mode this thing is quick:3gears:

S Mode: 51.4mph (82.8kph)
P Mode: 38mph (61.2kph)
A Mode: 51.4mph (82.8kph)

Plus its a delight to fly..:rocker:

I'm only around 2 1/2 hours flying time away in S mode - I'm sure beer would arrive plenty cold. Can you send it to a location based on GPS coordinates and have it land and return autonimously?
I suspect battery time might be an issue with this cunning plan though..

Lots of pepperoni and black olives on mine please....

....or maybe I should have a 1/2 and 1/2.

Modern technology astounds me.

Are you still taking pizza orders?

I'll have double cheese and pepperoni and mushrooms!

Thanks!

Nice drone pics!

Pepperoni, please, with extra pepperoni.

Medium would be fine. Do you need GPS coordinates?

All, Pizza jokes aside ( and beer deliveries for that matter ) the new Drone is one awesome bit of technology.:rocker:

Today we spent most of our time training on the three camera options that were ordered with the Drone ( all Zenmuse units) a normal one, a 30 x zoom unit and a Flir developed infrared unit which we were told cost AU$18 k so that's a handle with kid glove let me tell you:thumbup:

https://www.dji.com/products/professional?site=brandsite&from=nav#camera-gimbal

All done an dusted now we just have to get some more flight time on this beast.:thumbup:

1/2: congrats on the new arrivals even though i know your life will be even busier i'm sure Mrs. 1/2 is delighted. i'm hoping you and Shelby will be busy with the new projects and maybe some Model A time while the new puppies are growing up.

great news about the drone and I was reading Fr8's thread and hearing about a lot of wind Down Under. is that drone hard to fly in the wind or are there days when it's not allowed up in the air cause sounds like it might cost as much as a race car?

I hope going back to work full time will keep your spirits up and help get you even stronger on your recovery process.

take care and pictures of the new Rodents when you have a little time to take and post them.

Steve! Ginny was just asking if the pups had arrived yet. She will be thrilled. New life always breathes life into the old. Bobby

Bobby, yes they have arrived and as you say they do breathe new life into the old, its great to be a part of that.:)

I will endeavour to post pictures as they grow into little rodents, they are heaps of fun even now..
Evie is looking after them like you would not believe, the typical dotting mother..

Busy is right plus the goal posts keep moving all the time any way one does what one has to do..:willy_nil

The Drone training went well and actually handles windy and gusty conditions very well as it is good for up to nearly 40ft per second winds, holding its position extremely accurately.

And you are right it is one expensive bit of kit when you start adding these exceptional cameras as well..

This week I will be spending most of it at work as there has been a fair bit on my plate and 2-3 1/2 days just do not cut it. That said I am copping very well with it all..:3gears:

As yet I haven't been able to get a reasonable picture of the # Gen 3 rodents as yet how ever this is one of the five, they are all doing really well..

Cute pups! Suggest contacting Lyndon on puppy proofing tips. :)

Someone asked about drones and strong winds. Most of the fancier drones have bot 'GPS hold' and 'Digital hold' - amongst other commercial names for the same function. but in short GPS hold will keep the drone in position correcting for drift and digital hold employs a set of 3-axis accelerometers that ensure drone stability. The end result being that you can park the thing in a narrow alleyway during +50knot gusts and it will stay there while you focus on taking pictures etc. Seen first hand and very impressive.

What is more impressive is how common this technology has become and how available it is to the average consumer.

In the cubicle one over from where I sit at work we have a grad programme and some youngsters incorporating a data logger with opensource number plate recognition software. Testing it using a drone fitted with a camera array though it could work using a basic wifi camera too. With our existing access to vehicle ownership information we can survey a vehicle incident and tell exactly who was around or involved at the time. Fly down a street and see who parks on the road at night. Etc. Sounds futuristic and the implementation may be, a little bit. Truth is a bunch of kids took some commonly available components and applied some smarts in very little time to achieve this last week. The future is less about technology these days and more about ideas for applying it.

Oops, I just thread hijacked a bit... sorry Steve!

1/2: I know you sometimes (or maybe all the time) think the Rodents are a PITA, but DAMN THEY ARE CUTE.

good luck at work this week and hoping there is a bit of good fun among all that work.

thanks for the picture of the little guy!!

GUSTER: yes you did, but it's good to get that information out. we had a neighbor kid that lives a couple blocks away flying his drone up to our windows and since we knew where he lives we reported him. we also have the benefit that we live near a major airport and it's a NO FLY ZONE so the drone is no longer his. i'm all for technology, but peeping toms or using it for the DARK SIDE so to speak is not cool.

I've tried to read some of your old TECH TALK (language) over on Andy's thread and some i could understand and you are way over my top when you get going.

keep up the good work and learning cause we need guys like you to teach some of us older guys.

Guster is spot on, as usual, that the technology available is really powerful. But more is on the way.

I don't understand the tech talk either.

I totally agree, its out there now and its only a matter of application. The sky is the limit.

That's incredible what Grad Programs can come up with:bowdown:

Drives, the pups are never a PIA they are just little cuties.

I has been a full on week at work with a couple of site visits, the drone training, a trip to Melbourne to complete some switchboard factory acceptance tests and my work SUV three year lease is up tomorrow & my new SUV has arrived so I will be doing the change over as well. I am getting a Toyota this time.

All, being a bit of a bower bird I couldn't pass up these off cuts of I Beam today.

At 18 inches long x 13 inches high x 12 inches wide and 1 inch thick they are seriously heavy.
Seeing I do not own an anvil as they are like gold out here these will do the job nicely..

Congratulations on the new arrivals. They are beautiful.

A tip when the finally venture outside. Look out for birds of prey. When I had our Golden Retriever pups outside for a play, I noticed a large owl watching them from a nearby tree. They were the size of a small rabbit at the time, and would have made an easy and expensive meal for the hunter.

Enjoy them. Maybe a drone shot of them outside sometime?

Cheers,

Ken

Those will test your back.

Should prove useful in the shop!

Riven, I had to get my eldest son to give me a hand to lift them.:shocking:

I intend to give one to my neighbour and good friend who has been just so giving over the years and is a cancer survivor. He has recently given to me an old cast flat belt pulley that had a 3 inch shaft which he had been using as anvil and would not accept one cent for it so I will surprise him with a suitable compromise..

Ken, thank you so much:thumbup:

As they grow and do venture outside they are under constant supervision at all times and you are right in saying they are easy prey for any bird given their size..

Enjoy them we will for sure..:rocker:

Drone shot of the pups, that's not a bad idea. Thanks for that..:thumbup:
