Awesome water wheel Steve. So those are Bull Rushes over there? We call them Cat Tails on this side of the pond. Either way, a great compliment to the water wheel.

Thank you Dan:thumbup::thumbup:

They are also called Cumbungi out here.

http://vro.agriculture.vic.gov.au/dpi/vro/vrosite.nsf/pages/sip_common_cumbungi

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

xtremek I am looking forward to seeing how the turn out myself.

1/2: funny you mention Mrs. 1/2 buying and liking things that we probably could make out of our scrap pile cause Mrs. Drives does the same thing. that's maybe why she puts up with all my STUFF, but I need to turn out more cool projects to keep her happy. best of luck on the CAT TAILS that we also called pussywillows until we figured out the difference. when the brown tail so to speak explodes with all the white seeds it almost looks like it's snowing. i've never heard them called Bull rushes. I bet that anything you come up with to add to your water feature will be great so best of luck with that.

is this hopefully your last Imunotherapy round and other than the awful side effects are your results getting rid of the Pneumonia according to the doctors?

one of our members was talking how expensive a good drone is and he mentioned $600 to $2000 and if I recall correctly didn't your company's drone cost about $60,000? speaking of that any cool drone pics on your company's web site or that you can share here?

cheers and hope you feel great again soon!!

Drives our brides must certainly think alike.

I posted a link above fyi Yes our Bull Rush's go to seed as do your Cats Tails.
It will be an interesting project and I am looking forward to it.

I have at least another 5 rounds of Immunotherapy ( that's one every two weeks ) left to go. My Pneumonia is totally gone, like I said fortunately I never really felt ill at all with it.

The cost of our Drone included some very expensive camera equipment with one of the cameras alone costing $25 k AU

$200 to $2000 would be about right for some types.

Here is a link to our companies web site that features some of our Drone footage of one of our communications towers.

https://www.g-mwater.com.au/news/latest-news-and-updates/new-drone-gmw.html

Thank you once again I feeling reasonably well now:thumbup:

Looking forward to seeing this!

Thank you Riven, me to:thumbup:

Steve, it's too bad you didn't have that mission a couple of years ago. My wife is a big fan of Bull Rushes and found metal ones with solar LED lights inside glass seed pods at Costco. I would send you ours but they have suffered a fair bit of damage (broken glass).
attachment.php

Apparently Amazon also sold them at one time but no longer. It's possible they carry something similar down under. Here's a link to the Amazon offering, which does contain more information:
https://www.amazon.com/naturally-cattail-bulrush-solar-landscape/dp/b000epvqea

******, they would have saved me a lot of work. Any way it will keep me busy.
Thanks for sharing that Bob:thumbup:

May prefer the water wheel.

Rian yep I really like the Water Wheel as well.

Some 25 mm pipe, pipe caps, heavy wire you've got bull rushes.

I thought the flowers were nice. But the water wheel is GREAT!!

Andy you are on to it.

40 ft of 3/4 x 1/8 and 1 x 1/8 flat for the leaves

40 ft of 1/4 and 5/16 rod

Inch tube and caps

Some hydrochloric acid brick wash for that instant patina and rustic look and there you have it.

Mrs 1/2 Cups flowers do look great as well:thumbup:

I am pretty happy with the Water Wheel to:thumbup:

Well that explains the dark glasses. :lol_hitti

:thumbup::thumbup:

That auction looked interesting 1/2cup, I haven't been to an auction in years (I would want to buy stuff that I can't afford and/or don't need :().

The auction was a great day out.

My brother-in-law builds some very good garden art, this one is at my father-in-law's place...

He generally uses any old bits and pieces that resemble the shape he needs (look closely at the bird's head).

Have fun with your Bull Rush project.

.

Mark thank you for sharing your brother in laws work , that's fantastic..:thumbup:

Congratulations Steve - I just noticed a couple of milestones on your thread, page 400 and post #8000.

Break out the bubbly.

Thank you Mark other wise I would have missed it.:beer:

Thank you one and all, have a good one.

Please don't ask when the Model A will be on the road.

That makes three Rover K Series engines in the 1/2 Works now.

Oh well, as you do..

Steve I believe Mrs. 1/2 Cup also knows you will be more precise with your mowing if the flowers in the beds are made of reinforcement rod and scrap iron.:lol_hitti Good to see you are up to the engine challenge. Your health must be improving! Great news!

1/2: the water wheel looks great!! if you want to get a few more ideas one of our members that doesn't post often has some skills and here's his web site with some welding art:

https://www.paulhillsculpture.com/

also another artist welder made the Bison i've had in my Avatar for a couple years that he made out of scraps.

http://www.johnlopezstudio.com/

between engine rebuilds and doctors poking at you it's going to be hard to go to work and get everything done, but your job might be a good get a way and nothing like flying a drone up around some towers to relax.

I won't ask when the Model A gets finished and maybe you should drop that off at Andrew's house?

BBChevro: just an FYI in case you want to view 100 posts per page on the fast moving threads or a thread you want to read you can set it up in your GJ profile. that said 1/2 Cup only has 81 pages in my book so lots of posts to go to get him to 400 pages in the continuing fun at the SHED DOWNUNDER.

cheers all

Hey Drives, yeah, I know that GJ can be set up differently, but I just use the default settings - for me 100 posts per page would take forever to load (I have very sloooow internet).

That engine looks to be all aluminium. You know I could use that. So could Guster. Put it in a bottle and launch it, Don will keep an eye out for it.

Looking forward to the build. Don't forget pictures...

Drives do some awesome work  Thank you for sharing the links.

I have to say you are right and that it is hard to fit every thing in in 24 hours but that's life I guess. The important thing is I am enjoying what I do.

With all the Rover K Series bits that are in the Shed Downunder its making it difficult to actually see the Model A :headscrat

 This is not good.

HOTFR8 we will get there.

Andy yep the engine is all aluminium and lots of it. Did you see the aluminium and brass off cuts picture from the auction? I should have brought that for you guys and sent it across.

All on to the rustic metal art this week end and thus far have completed about 20 leaves. Making them nicely tapered over about a 12 to 18 inches and some of the flower heads.

Using my metal roller that I made some years back added some gentle curves to each leaf.

Those leaves are both lovely and of course clever.

I love it when a tool works and works well.

It is like it is repaying you for having or making it in the first place.

Well done, as said before.

1/2: I might have a few more vises than you do, but you lead the pack on the VISE ACCESSORIES. I love the roller and i think you posted a neat bender in a post last year that I'd like to own too.

best of luck with all the Immunotherapy treatments and i hope they do what they are supposed to do.

so do you think this engine rebuild will be easier than the first one?

take care!!

So Steve, I think there's one of two ways you need to move on the Model A front. A: we all pitch together and finish it for you. Or B: you send it to me in receivership :lol_hitti

Very nice roller!! Doing the job :)

I saw that hammer...

Thank you Andy, it really does the job well. I should motorize it:rocker:
Well maybe on the next model up..

I luv the hammer..

Immunotherapy # 4 next week. We really won't know just how effective it has been until well after I have finished the treatment and have another CT Scan ( heck I almost glow in the dark now )

The Rover K Series build will most certainly be easier as all the hard work has been done its just a matter of bolting on all the peripheral stuff so its ready to bolt back in the car really. Plus I know what I am looking at now.

xtremek this is my take on Plan A if you guys could pick up on all my other projects for a while so that I can concentrate wholly on the Model A that would be awesome..

Top idea:bowdown:

Again thank gentlemen  have a good one..

That is a tidy and compact little ring roller. Elegant way using the crank to drive the material too. Is that an aluminium sleeve over the outside to increase a bit of traction?

Bunnings actually sold those rust steel bullrush/cattail ornaments last year. Presumably Corten steel which is how they justify charging so much for them. Wouldn't have known about them other than someone making a fuss about returning them. Apparently the rust staining caused some issues. Who would have thought... :lol_hitti

Good luck with the engine work. Try and bring some warmer weather with me next week when I get to see our new offices in Darling harbour.

1/2: thanks for posting a picture of your cool vise break and it's always nice to see pictures of your shop.

i'm hoping all this stuff the doctors are doing to and with you help you live another 30+ years. sorry you are having to go through it cause it can't be all that fun and still sending prayers and best wishes.

good luck with the new engine rebuild and even though you just did a tougher one and probably could write a book about it I know that there will be some hard work involved getting the new one spiffed up.

cheers

Guster thank you:thumbup: The extra outer sleeve is just another piece of tube just to increase the diameter and get a tighter ring.

I didn't realise Bunnings had sold similar:headscrat and the rust causing issues that's bizarre. :willy_nil
Out of curiosity can you remember how much they were?

The engine work should be relatively easy.

Sydney's weather for next week is looking good for this time of the year. All the best with you trip..

Drives no problems at all:thumbup:

I am to hoping that my treatment helps some what for sure.
To be honest you are right the treatment is not all that easy to go through but all I can do is just go with the flow and look forward. It has been a journey and a real eye opener for me. I do thank you for you continued prayers and best wishes, it means a lot.

The engine refit should go ok, I learnt quite a lot on the first Rover K Series that's for sure. To do it right there is never any short cuts..

So I discussed your proposal with my wife and if you're willing to reciprocate, I'm good with that. Note that the quality of my work is not nearly the up to yours, but I'd love a vaca in the your neck of the world.

Steve nice roller. How heavy are the bolts supporting the bearings? Something I have thought about a little but do not want to put the time into anything that will take up space I do not have. One would be a great compliment to my Beverly (HF) shear! Keep up the strength!

The bolts are 3/4 high tensile. I don't use the roller all that often but heck it is handy.:thumbup:

All I completed the Bull Rush flower heads then a quick wipe over with Hydrochloric Acid brick wash, left over night and bingo we have instant rust.

Well done on the Bull Rushes. I'm guessing the leaves go on next? Good trick with the acid wash. Seem like I spend all my time taking rust off of metal but it does have its artistic place. Those flowers should look good in your garden.

Bob, I just tacked the leaves on some stems had one leaf and some had two leaves. Then propped them all in a short piece of 2" pipe then tacked in.

I have to say they were a little hard to handle but I got there.

I'm sure he'll plant them with a little root stimulator. :)

Xtremek: I can help facilitate this. Just PM me your credit card information and you'll have tickets in a flash.

Andy I did add a little propagating powder to the root system and I think you will find they really take off now..

WOW! Those look great! Looks just like I hit them with Roundup last week. You won't have to worry about them clogging your pond now. They still look like cat tails to me. We call them bull rushes around here too. We really can't decide what to call them. I guess yours are Bull Rusties.
