I am bringing this thread back to life. My collection of tool bottle openers is growning. From left to right, Channellock, Wiha, Craftsman, Klein, Wera, Snap-on, Witte, Craftsman Wrench and Proto. Still looking for the Matco version.

The Pedro's opener matches the cone wrenches in my shop. but I do like this one...

View media item 6822

My indoor go-to is a park tool BO-1 with GT branding

The garage opener got an update from the lighter method a few months ago. Had a scrap of 1.5x.125 flat stock. Notched the opener in. Took about 4-5 bottles of "tuning". Decided to pretty it up with some holes and a radiused end. Well... ...you can see how far that went. Progress sort of stopped when I smoked the Irwin hole saw that night.

So... this seems like the right thread for this:

tool_bottle_openers_sm.jpg

This collection started innocently enough with one or two, but now I have almost twenty of these ridiculous things.

Top row, left to right:
  • PB Swiss, 9000
  • Proto, 9999PC
  • Snap-On, SGD2R1R
  • Snap-On, SSX2735
  • Witte (Protop II), 00970
  • Witte (MaxxPro), 00967
  • Witte (MaxxPro Nature), 00969
  • Klein, 98002BT
  • Greenlee, 9753-13C

Bottom row, left to right:
  • Wiha
  • Wera, 05 030005 002
  • Wera (hard handle)
  • Craftsman, 41626
  • Felo (2K Frico style), 59720000
  • Felo (Ergonic style), 62405
  • Würth, WIWFS53401100000
  • Hazet, CL863-FL
  • Gedore
  • Unior, 45/2BI

A few notes about these (possibly of use for those who are looking for one of their own):

As far as I know, the Snap-On openers were only included as promotional items with screwdriver sets. The soft-handle set was DES414095 and the Instinct-handle set was SGDX60BOSB.

The Würth was apparently included with a limited "Black Edition" 1/4"-drive socket set that was sold in 2012. The part number for the whole set is 0965 11 330. It's difficult to find one of these outside Germany.

The Unior (made in Slovenia) happens to be branded with the logo of Husaberg, the Swedish/Austrian motorbike manufacturer. I bought this opener from an eBay seller in Israel.

The orange Wera is quite strange -- it has a hard handle in the Kraftform shape, and "Wera", "Kraftform", and "Germany" are moulded into the handle. One side is marked "Paladin Corporation", with a 'knight' logo (♞). Found this one in an obscure online antique store.

The Klein and the Greenlee are almost identical, but the Klein is US-made while the Greenlee is from Taiwan. I didn't discover this about the Greenlee until I'd already bought it.

Notably absent is the opener from Channellock (part no. BOCB), because, unlike their high-quality hand tools, production of the bottle opener has been exported to China rather than kept in the US. I'll be happy to purchase one and include it in my collection when Channellock remedies this situation.

I also haven't included the opener from Milwaukee Tool (released Q3 2013), because it's apparently also made in Taiwan. Although the quality of Taiwanese tools has improved noticibly over the past two decades, it's not on the same level as US tool manufacturing and it's unbecoming of an old American brand such as Milwaukee.

I don't think the Wiha or the Gedore have dedicated part numbers, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have an antique Coca Cola bottle opener mounted on my wall with a stainless cap catcher from Amazon. I also have a Honey Brown keychain opener that I've carried for years. I read a couple years ago in Men's Health that a guy should not carry a keychain bottle opener once he turned 30. You'll have to pry it from cold, dead hand.

anything straight like a knife of, back of a spook, fork, most tools works when pry using your hand a a fulcrum point. I found an article and pictures explaining what I mean. This is the only way I do it anymore.

I quit bottling over a year ago... but it does have a built in bottle opener on the latch inside. ;)

Here is for Halloween a couple days ago.

Surly Jethro Tool

I ordered mine awhile ago and I finally received it today. I must admit that I thought it was overpriced at $25 when I ordered it but this thing is very stout. I'll probably order another one because I like it so much. I'll probably order a few for gifts as well.

Here is my small collection, I still need an orange Snap-on to complete that set. My OCD has gotten the better of me, lol.

This is my EDC that's in my wallet. It was a gift from Marlboro.

I didn't see anyone that has the next two.

I hadn't had to use a church key in ages. Been drinking beer from pop top cans for decades, and even the occasional bottle beer were twistoffs. Then a few weeks ago I bought a 6-pack of Fat Tire. Hmmm.....got them home and they were the old fashioned tops. Who'da thunk it? Well, I scrounged around the house and it seems I still have all my old ones. Something you don't generally get rid of, I guess. My favorite is a logo from Revere, a copper and brass company I used to work for.

To the seatbelt guys- how the hell do you pop that bottle open without spilling half the beer on you? I've tried it numerous times, and I always seem to cover my hands and pant legs in beer.

OK, here's mine. It was my dad's, so I'm guessing it's at least 60 years old.

Here's one on Ebay.

Yeah, my daughter liked mine so I found a lot of them on Ebay. Most are copies, but this one is an original FWIW... Didn't realize it was a "classic".

Got this on ebay and its about 11/32".The opening is shaped like a crescent wrench instead of a open end wrench.
