I just had a self realization why I like these (what most would consider) nerdy pics.
No only is the project cool, but it's the machines that create this "coolness" and the talent to use these machines is just as cool if not more. Machine's making machine's - cool!

(haven't used 'cool' that many times in years )

Hey Royce, started on your big meatball today. Had to build custom jaws to hold the 5"dia. x 7" Bronze round. Finished the end work and making the fixture to hold it to cut the sides. Fun project.

OK Royce, Meatball is done. it was challenging and tested my long cutting skills. Once I made the hex fixture so I could clamp this very heavy Bronze piece in my Kurt machining vise, it has the 6 sides like your Meatball so all I had to do is rotate it and run the program again. My set up worked like I thought and eventually it was done.

Here is the finished Meatball with the clamping block still attached. Royce will pull it off and use it for sizing the fit for the 1-3/4 Spindle. I bored the pocket 3-1/4 deep for a solid attachment to the Meatball. Royce you will have to pin the bronze in place at your place.

That is beautiful Kevin,
I would not know where to start on machining this piece and having the in process pics is really neat.

If that is not the prettiest thing I ever saw, it's mighty close.
I hope I don't screw it up!!!

I'm thinking a elliptical hexagonal profile will look sharp on the handle ends.

Kevin, I'm so proud of the work you have done on this project and can't thank you enough for all the help you have been.

I would not of known anything of Kevin without this forum and now have a great friend.

To me, it's all about new, different, wild, out of the ordinary and sharing is the icing on the cake.
My hope is that someone can look at some of this and pull something out of it for their own projects.

Thanks Puget

Royce/Kevin I would find it incredible to build a vice of normal proportion but this is on an uber level. I like the pic with the can, great use of understanding the scale involved. Maybe do that more often most of us or at least myself find it mind boggling of the scale involved in this project.
Great job:bowdown:

I thought of the big vise handle when I saw these. They would go with the spindle knob nicely.

Royce, you should mount that on your flatbed and make it a float in the Golden Days parade.

I don't know if she will be done by then.
They do a pretty good steam engine and old machine show out at chena hot springs, that she would probably fit in pretty good, too.

I wouldn't want to go anywhere it wouldn't fit in, Royce. That vise is a work of art!

Thanks Puget,
I got a notice in the mailbox today to pick up a parcel at the post office.
I'm thinking it is the jaws and adapters from Kevin.
Can't hardly wait to fit and weld them up.

Do you care to reveal the dimensions of those monster vise jaws?
Your whole project is beyond awesome!
And Kevin’s work is at the usual masterpiece level.

You bet, 1" x 2-1/2" x 13"
I wish everybody could see these jaws and meatball in person, they are a sight to behold.
Thanks
Royce

Been pushing hard on another project, but took a little time to layout the handle ends today.
I followed the way Kevin step turns his spherical ends, these being a bit different, as they are elliptical.
I may be able to turn them tomorrow

Took delivery on the last of the parts today, the main spindle and the handle.
Started to assemble for final fit ups and weld out.
I'm adding a few pics to the album.
