This week I have been working on some slatwall sections (see video above), A 2X6 kickboard at the floor level, installed an outdoor outlet, and the north wall 1phase and 3phase panel installs. Also made and sold a couple plyo jump boxes for some crossfit folks from out of town. That cash bought me a new set of Makita LXT bare tools from a SMC member. Good thing as I killed the 3rd speed on my drill last week.

North wall wiring weekend. I think I have 74 outlets installed in the north half of the building.

I know its not IL cold yet but the floor is nicely heated. Lower is heated water temp as it enters into the floor loops and upper is temp of water leaving floor loops. Radiant Floor Thermostat is set at 70.

I scored some pre black friday items thanks to some woodworking forum members heads up. A couple clearanced roboreel air ceiling mounts (in the background of pic) and I convinced HF to honor the 20% off super coupon today on the 56" top box - boy they sure did not want to but they had agreed before I drove 40 miles to come get it). I also scored some of the Bosch 23ga pinners at Menards on clearance and already sold one that paid for mine.

Love the radiant heating system. I realize you haven't been through a winter yet but any idea on cost to operate? I live right down the road from you and am thinking about copying your system. Thanks.

A few updates.

Got the north wall electrical panels done. A 3ph and a 1ph.

Started the insulation.

Also got another 45X5 class CNC Router machine from a buddy - its on crazy Zambus Casters that are about 4" in Dia. I am getting it un-moth balled and reassembled. It has a 5'X5'X8"Z cutting area. Its all 8020 and steel. It will use a G540 controller and Mach and will use a Hitachi M12VC for now. The gantry uses the 3060 extrusion - Its a beast of a piece of 8020 for sure. The carriages use the bearings from the non-pro cncrp design. I also got a Jet Canister DC to use with it that is also on wheels. Also will use a Kent CNCDust Shoe.

My dad passed away on 12/21 so I have been dealing with the estate and getting things cleaned up. Work in the shed has really slowed due to that additional work.

Tonight I did get my projector screen hung up. Check out this video. It is a 200" diag powered Favi screen. Its mounted to my 14X14 roll up door frame using 3/8 eyebolts and locking carabiners. I hoisted it up using a 4:1 rope hoist commonly used to field dress deer - I restrung it with 100' of 3/8 braided rope.

Dad live life EXACTLY like he wanted every day. He was not sick and at 73 died of a quick permanent heat attack. Man I can only be so lucky to have it like that. He will be missed and thank you for the kind comments.

This weekend I got my projector put up in the air. This is an Optoma HD26 projector shooting on a 200" diag Favi powered screen. The ceiling mount was $25 import one from amazon. I will tidy the wires up a bit more later. I installed an outlet for it close by and I have two HDMI cable and a mini stereo 12V trigger line ran to the projector.

I just joined a few weeks ago after skimming the forum for a few months looking for ideas while I plan my new home/garage/shop, but you finally drew out my first post!!

That projector setup is pretty freaking awesome and a great idea!

I also just wanted to offer my condolences and wish you and your family the best!

Look forward to following another badass build!

Really awesome build. Going thru a much smaller version of your build now. Curious if you are leaving the ceiling open our planning to put something up.

I am restricted by the weight load of my scissor trusses and am looking for the right material ( light weight and visually appealing).

Latest work has been running in wall 2 conductor 14ga speaker wire for the sound system and also running 4 conductor control cable for some push button start/stop stations that will control the 3phase RPC setup. TONS of trips up and down the ladder to run all that. Better than 1000' foot of low voltage wire installed in the last week.

I got 6 240V 30amp outlets installed in the ceiling, Got 5 new T5HO lights in to replace the Metal Halides, and also ran wire to 8 stations for 24V low voltage control for the 3phase 20hp Rotary Phase converter motor contactor start cabinet.

Today - 72" Roller cabinet day.

Also picked up some Menards sold Tough Built Modular pouches/bags that clip on mounting clips. In the picture are the Framers pouch, the Mega Supply pouch, the Tape Measure pouch, and the Master Electrician pouch. I have some clips mounted on top the Little Giant Ariel Lift platform and on my scaffolding. I load up what tools I need and take it up and it provides tool and fastener organization on the ladder and on my scaffolding. The Tape Measure pouch works well for small drills/drivers and impacts and all the 10.8V/12V Bosch sized drivers. Also I like plastic clear chinese soup containers for holding kreg screws so those are the containers in the bags.

Bit of wall work done this weekend. Made 7 panels of slat wall. Also did some more insulating for the next 7 panels. The walls are 1.5" thick marine grade plywood where the outlets are (5 7/8" wide slats copying the Woodsmith slat wall idea) and they are mounted flush using adjustable single gang boxes. In the finished walls pictured are four 30amp 240V single phase on three separate circuits, a 40 amp 240V single phase on 8ga on a separate circuit, a 30amp 240V 3 phase on its own circuit, and three 20amp 120V single phase on two separate circuits.

More east wall work this weekend. The above man-door panel was made and hung and six more wall panels for left of the 14' garage door were made and hung on Sunday. Top of installed wall panels is 8' in these pictures.

Worked on a bunch of box orders this past week - customers come first before wall builds as they pay for the walls :) . The girls helped me out too. I also took some of the Steelcase binder bins I bought super cheap and put slatwall cleats on them and hung them up. They also make great workstations for the girls at their height and even nice tables for me. The outlets were turned off btw.

Wow, what a build! Beautiful arsenal of equipment you have there, very well balanced between wood and metal too. Not too much you can't take on with all of that. Great pics of you and the kids too. I have 3 myself, and the "together" projects are the absolute best!

I am curious about your approach to building your slatwall. In the pics, I counted up to 28 screws in ONE slatwall panel (6x48"?). I mean, I'm all for overdoing stuff in the interest of longevity...but that seems a bit extreme. Perhaps, like 8-10 screws (drilled/C'sunk on your CNC router for creating a consistent, symmetric pattern of fasteners) per panel, combined with a good adhesive, would be tremendously strong and clean looking. I hate to criticize anyone's hard work, but to me, the excessive quantity of screws combined with the somewhat random placement, really detracts from the finished product. Again, not trying to nitpick, just another perspective to think about.

I am not using adhesive - I want the ability to change them out. Not sure why but it goes along with most of my no isea what I am doing thoughts lol.

Honestly I dont even see the screw holes when I am in there. I do the holes by hand with a plunge router so i can pick the best spot in the exterior grade plywood. Again its just the way I do it.

THANK YOU for the compliment. For you here is a pic of my latest build/machine. Girls are helping me clean it up too. It is a rebuild of a Microkinetics 1236 CNC metal lathe.

Shop update:
I have the 1000 pieces of plywood painted for my slatwall walls and the ceiling. Below is a picture of the 1000th sheet being loaded on a pallet.

99% of the insulation is installed in the walls - 12 batts left to install.

I also had better seals put on my 14'X14' garage doors and a seal put on the top edge of the door.

Installed 60 vertical 2X6s that are about 2' long as wall panel mounts for the edges between posts. I Kreg pocket holed them into the bookcased horizontal 2X6s that contain my insulation and in wall wiring. Thi sis the north wall and the north west wall. The north west wall had a few in the wrong spot but I only moved the ones where i wanted easier wiring access and just installed two new rows floor to ceiling.

I have 60 of the size 30" steelcase binder bins (see post 147 above to see one) with about 1/2 of them with t8 2' lights. I plan to use them as wall task lighting when needed and to store items not commonly used. With my slat wall they are easy to mount and even change mount placement. The 9' outlets are for those lights. I also have plans for a 12x24 mezzanine with a floor at 8'. The north east wall has the 2nd story outlets.

That makes excellent sense. Some very thorough planning on your part. I saw the binder bins but didn't realize they have lights. Thanks for the explanation.

Re: BloomingtonMike's 40X64X16 Slat-Wall Walls

Mikey, looks great, been about 5 years since I've moved to Texas and talked with you, I'm just getting back into stuff and rebuilding a Multicam 5x5. Great to see and have some ideas to steal from your 100k shop. Keep the updates coming!!
