You all might remember I picked up the BP mill last month, the only activity on it was cussing when I walked into the feed handle!🤣🤣

Ordered some steel casters and picked up a chunk of heavy channel to start on the mobile base.

I was out of town for work, had the afternoon on the way back free, so I stopped by a scrap yard that I’ll only be able to visit when I have days off.

Was all happy to be able to go there and arrived just in time for a mini hurricane to blow in! Drove around best I could and spotted what I was looking for. Jumped out in rain to measure, yep, I want it, picked it up to drag to truck when the lightening hit, guess I’ll wait a little bit!

Got it weighed, loaded and on my way.

I’ll use this 3”x8” x 1/2” channel for the caster mounts. Cut the sections, tapered the flanges back to allow for caster clearance when pivoting.

With the mill weighing 2200 lbs, I wanted some beef to the base.
Starting cutting the 2”x4” x1/4” wall rectangle tube that will be the main box of the base.

Looking good Craig, I'm glad people are doing projects at least I can watch, since mine are on hold. ☹
Thanks Jim, I’m way behind, but this is a priority as I need to get mill in its spot and more importantly the Enco out so I can get it delivered to the buyer.

Maybe then I can finish the past the 1 year mark on press project and also vise stand, another 1 year old one🤣🤣

Been watching your stuff, just too lazy to reply to anything 🤪.

@cbacres

I see you have a camlocker tool box. How do you like it? I have been looking at those.
I love the box, it’s a little heavier gage aluminum than most of the others, the locking/latching linkage is what really caught my attention.
The interior is lined with a fabric which is nice as you don’t get the aluminum gunk on your stuff from it rubbing against box.

Does that mean Andrew is getting a new mill?
Well most of a mill. 😜
Actually Craig gave me a helluva deal. And even did some troubleshooting for me in advance. Even when I buy a new motor it will still be a good deal. I already sold the benchtop Mill to help pay for it.
Are you trying to take the whole Florida group out in one meetup !!!!!!!!!!
I already tried that when I bought a big lathe.
Oh and when I got the rather large and heavy steel plates from Craig.
Oh and.......

Let's face it. There's a reason that women live longer. Just saying. 🙄😁

Some progress on the mill base.
Miter cut the 2x4 tubing, cut one of the long ones a inch short🤦‍♂️.
Here it is all clamped up and ready to weld.

The hole in the center of weld table coming in handy.

Love the flux core and gas!

Using 1”x6” flat bar on the inside of the tube frame. The mill will sit on the flat bar. My little Ellis band saw getting a workout.

I ground bevels on the 1”, want to make sure the weld bead isn’t to high and interferes with the base of mill.

Flat bar in its place in tube frame.

Tomorrow I’ll weld out the frame, add caster mounts and scrounge up some nuts and bolts for leveling once base is in place.

Adding caster mounts.

I did get a little burn, I leaned on the ground clamp reaching across frame to weld. I guess can say I was trying to take a little heat off Shorty!🤣🤣

How bad was it? Laura said she got an alert on her phone.
It’s just starting-
We’re under Tropical storm warning, mainly because they have to because of the possibility of strengthening.

Just read to expect 45 MPH winds, we’re in the 6-10” rain prediction.

Going to be wet here in Ft. Myers region, to the south even more so.

Weather was a dud, just a lot of rain. We were so dry that didn’t even get any standing water.

Finished welding and painting of mill base.
I guess I should of went back and read my posts here, then I would of known that I needed to weld the leveling nuts on! Yep, painted it all up and forgot the freaking nuts. Oh well.

I rigged up the 500 lb hoist over the welding table, base was too much to flip by hand.

All prepped for paint.

Main hoist makes for good adjustable paint hanger.
CA87B581-CB64-447C-BFC2-4A252D233B42.jpeg
Almost ready to mate up with mill.

So, I’ll get up the nerve to weld the leveling nuts to the new paint this week.🤪

Looking great, I may have to do something similar, when I bought my mill I said I wouldn't move it around, well I need to move it again, for the third time. I have a forklift, but it isn't easy to get to it, so having wheels would be an asset for sure.

What is left in your shop that doesn't have wheels?

My dead *** doesn’t have any wheels!

Thanks. I really didn’t need this project right now, but couldn’t pass up this mill.

There’s really not much that doesn’t have casters on it, a few cabs still need them installed or a frame built, but there on Dollie’s temporarily.

The base weighs in at 186 lbs.

Heaviest I’ve built yet!

Minor update.
New stand added to shop.
60DA1F7A-EEF2-426F-A3D5-B939C7CD52B5.jpeg
Ridgid adjustable stand, the rollers pop right off so it can be used with just the flat top.

With my shorter welding table, this Stan will be a simple extension to table, light enough to get out of way when not using.

Getting base ready to drill the holes for the 7/8” leveling bolts.
