Mark, it was great to run into you there, wish we had more time to chat. It was a long day just with one kid, you had two! That does it for us, both kids done.

Replacing 1100' of perimeter fence.

Long day indeed!! The second ceremony was an EXACT duplicate of the first, right down to the speeches and corny jokes. Less graduates though. Two more in the future for us yet, but we get a 2 year break.

Have fun with that fence!

We were wondering if it would be the same or vary some, guess not. It was probably the same from 2 years ago when our son graduated.

For the first time in my life, I get to watch someone else do the fence. It's just too much for us to do in a short time and we have the animals to contend with.

Craig, I'm trying to get to each one of you guys before this week comes and goes. I just wanted to say thank you for all the fun we've had here on the GJ. And I'm honored that you Florida boys have allowed me to be part of your group. So a very sincere Merry Christmas to you and your family. And I hope to meet you in the next couple of months.

Dan, thanks for stopping by. I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas also. Look forward to meeting you when you come down since those dudes I hang with won't come up there to you. We did discuss piling in my truck and bring the cabs up to you, but the gas bill would be horrendous.

Here's some more progress pics of the clearing and new fence. It's done, just need to clean up some of the shredded stuff on the ground.

Took the wire fence to scrap yard, about 800 lbs worth. They unloaded from my trailer using a grapple, operator was pretty good. They have a magnet also, but at a different area.

Finally, finished fence.

Didn't get much shop time in, but at least this isn't hanging over my head anymore.

Nice job CB. Very neat.

What type of eagles are flying in the top of those first two pics?

GB

GB, thanks.

I don't specifically remember seeing them that day, but those "eagles" are likley the local dead meat removal service, buzzard, vultures, or a array of other names here. It probably seen me layed out under the tree fixing to come in thinking I was dead ( or at least smelled like it).
My wife found a dead critter in the yard that the dogs caught a while back and threw it over the fence ( by my shop) as she didn't have time to deal with. When I came home a few hours later, there were about 10 of them just having a feast.

We have had bald eagles n the trees behind us, along with a hawk I did see and hear one of my days on this project.

The fence (and the clean up) look absolutely fantastic cb. And thanks for trying to get the rest of the guys to take a little road trip, but this time of the year, heading your way makes more sense. Plan a road trip to Maine in July or August when we can sit outside and feast on lobster and steak and of course plenty of ice cold beer.

I'm just making the rounds and wishing the fine folks here on the Garage Journal a very happy and joyous holiday season. And I hope the New Year brings you more of what you seek in this life, and less of what you don't.

I'm looking forward to more updates from everyone here in 2017. YOU are what makes this forum so great, so keep sharing, helping, and supporting each other.

It has been a fun year especially the meet up at 5 Stitches and will be looking forward to what 2017 brings us. I hope you have a swan next to your Christmas tree.

May your Christmas be peaceful and filled with love and the New Year be a time of rebirth.

Finally started working on getting the two Listas on casters so I can get them inside.
Rolled them over to the hoist on pipe. The black forklift frame I removed.
c254fc570174b31edb6a101f7369ced2.jpg

I thought I would mount casters right to the bottom, but there was no rails or otherwise no reinforced mounts like I'm used to on the Vidmars.
d6290e2ece03b559eae5da09fc0e8069.jpg

I cut some 1/4"X6" flat bar to run down each side, I'll mount the casters to these and it'll spread the load on the bottom of the box.

Drilling mounting holes in the flatbar.

Laying out mounting holes.

Test mount of caster base to bottom of box.
40bee34bc6b32873ae7e202be09b8993.jpg

Now I'll finish drilling out the flatbars. I'll weld studs in the flats to mount the casters.

Looking forward to the Lista cabs being mobile. Keep moving forward.

There going to be equipped with the same technology as the shopping carts, if they go beyond a certain point in my shop, the wheels will lock up and defenses deployed.:lol_hitti

Today's progress.
Finished drilling the base plates, cut what seems like a hundred bolts to get the studs and welded studs to plate.

I set the studs so they were slightly recessed in plate, this left room for the weld.
292fcd36224570dde05ec918f55c7186.jpg

I turned up the mig welder and just welded a good hot puddle for the plug weld.
428109a2e90691daaa8e5a05f1f7b94d.jpg

Finished and somehow the caster bolt pattern fits!!!

Painted base plates and bottom of cabinet, as it won't be laying on its side again. ( unless Shorty is trying to sneak it out).

Oh, another sander showed up in my shop.
124277be1896aec6834f58f9a0cc0377.jpg

I should be able to at least get one on casters tomorrow. Then I need to clean up/ lube drawer bearings, prep for paint and get into use. I can't wait for that day.

Looking good man. That Lista will never be on its side again because we can just roll it on the trailer. LOL. If casters lock up we can just use the hoist. [emoji1303]

The Ridgid impact really works well for projects like this.

Upright and rolling. The casters are 6" hard plastic and rolls great.

Guess I've been hitting the estates too much, found my wife painting this.
0ee55bf9d728b5a7d4327fb519aee651.jpg

Some background to the headstones.
4ab6c74e140863e3d5ab8d01080f748c.jpg

My wife ice skates and participates in some of the adult completions and shows. She is preparing a prop for a upcoming program, which will be choreographed to the song "better dig two", the country song.

So the two head stones will be mounted on a PVC pipe skid that she will take out on the ice with her and be used in her routine.

She cut the headstone out of 2" foam board insulation, carved out the engravings and painted. I'm tasked with building the frame and attaching the headstones, making them removable to transport. I also have to fit in a shovel, it will double as a handle to move it around.

I decided to insert sleeves into each stone that will sit on two 1/2" pvc pipe sticking up from the base frame, just slide the stone over. I cut teeth into the end of piece of sch. 20 pvc to make a hole saw of sorts.
8a3bbe68c0887fa6a0c02bc3694f302c.jpg

I used one long one to core into the 2" foam, and then inserting sleeves in each one.
af9f71900b8745f15c47baa94246e5ca.jpg

Here's the start of the frame.
60675db5ac31d9d8760d1a40ff98df31.jpg

The frame will be built out of 1/2" PVC pipe and fittings. I'll build a aluminum plate with a bracket to bolt the shovel to.

Well I made it to page 20 this morning then had to do some actual work!
I will finish reading your thread tonight.

Next time I am in Florida working on Youngquist Brothers site, I will bring my trailer and come over and help you clear out some of that estate junk! :D

It was good catching up last night!

With the tools he's buying might be his.

Craig found me a floor model belt/disc sander that I picked up when we met at hooters.

Dan, see post 585, but it didn't look like that when I handed over to Shorty. Gerard and I have made it a tradition to give him his shop tools in pieces.:lol_hitti
Hopefully he'll figuire out where they go.:D

This is out in the parking lot, you can see the Hooters in the background. Shamefully we didn't get any pictures of the inhabitants, but we were there.

Yes, a calendar is definitely a responsibility of the FC president. Looks like he is slacking in two areas now.

GB, we had a great time, it's always fun when we can get together even for just a few hours.

I take it that G was holding the camera? He needs a lesson on what the GJ members want to look at. And it's inside that building, not Shorty's legs.:D
